Abstract

This study examined the thought of Seyyed Hossein Nasr on modernity. Nasr confronted Western Metaphysicsí view on one side and Islamic Metaphysicsí view on the other. Nasr took more emphasis on Sufism, though Nasr himself seemed not yet to the level of a mystic Sufi figures as known in the Islamic world. However, Nasr indeed had his own originality-in certain limits-that he concocted Sufism he mastered with his experience and his study results in the West to find alternative answers to the problems of modern man.

Abstract

State College of Islamic Studies of Pekalongan as an Islamic college under the Ministry of Religious Affairs has a great responsibility and a strategic role in developing character building. It is because STAIN is an institution of higher education that produces many Muslim intelectuals and religionists. Based on that, this study was aimed to understand in depth about the role of the institution, the learning system, and the programs that are being done by the Research and Community Center of the institution (P3M STAIN Pekalongan) in developing character building. Phenomenological approach was used to understand the subjective aspect of persons' behavior and the conceptual nature of them. The result showed that the character building in STAIN Pekalongan seemed to be representative enough. But in practice, however, got a very big challenge, either from inside education environment or from outside.

Abstract

Soren Kierkegaard and Muhammad Iqbal were philosophers who place human being as a starting point to seek the truth. This study was aimed to explore the meeting and parting point between the two. This study revealed that the existence of human being explained by them had a meeting point: it is that the two are theological-philosophy views. The unique of Kierkegaardís view concentrate on the analysis of existence, esthetic, ethics and religious step. Only those who dare to make a decision can exist because his own decision will drive him to his life goal. This view is the same as Muhammad Iqbalís view that Muslim has a responsibility for his own suffer. They are the only one who can change history into what they want. Iqbal saw the world as the product of human beingís effort. The existence order them to survive as a subject, person ñ as the representative of God (insan kamil).

Abstract

This article examines the attitudes of society in the Pekalongan batik industry in relation to predictors of confidence based on their perceptions of the pillars of faith and religious activities. Using a quantitative research approach, the results show: first, belief in the pillars of faith influences attitudes by only 10.8%, therefore the result is not significant; second, perception of religious activities influences attitudes by 18.5%, and this result is significant; third, belief in the pillars of faith and perception of religious activities jointly contribute 23.6%, and this result is significant.
