Abstract

ABSTRACTOne of the elements that cause fire is flame. Various fire detection systems are used for sensing such as a single non-visual sensor. however, most of these sensors have limited sensitivity, detection area, missed detection, and false alarms. Therefore, The correctness of the data is needed to determine the potential for fires around the sensor area. In this work, a microcontroller is used to process data computing based on the sector of the UV sensor, where the CW/CCW scanning method is used to obtain results from several data correlations. The results of the experiment, the detection system with the CW-CCW method can increase the sensitivity and probability of correct to 37.14% and 5.47% for Δ𝜃 = 11.25o, and 48.66 % and 8.01% for Δ𝜃 = 5.625o.Keywords: fire detection systems, missed detection, false alarm, UV sensor, CW/CCW scanning method.

Abstract

Abstract

As time passes, technology is demanded to be more sophisticated, efficient, and fully automatic. Technology development also impacts the medical field since hospitals require a tool that can automatically, thoroughly, and accurately record the physical condition of patients in the inpatient room and forward the results to be checked by the nurses on duty at the nurse station. Automation of patient data recording needs to be performed flexibly and comfortably for patients; thus, a wireless device channelling sensors on the patient's body to the nurse station is required. On this account, it demands a measurement to characterise the radio propagation channels. Therefore, this paper highlights the radio channel between the inpatient room hubs and the nurse station server. The measurement was performed in two rooms separated by a wall in the Antenna and Propagation Laboratory, representing an inpatient room and the nurse station. Further, the channel frequency was set at 3 GHz with a bandwidth of 200 MHz. Through the Vector Network Analyzer (VNA), the result revealed the channel response characteristic that the denser the propagation channels, the lower the power received and vice versa.

Abstract

Understanding of channel propagation characteristics is a key to the optimal design of underwater acoustic communication. Generally, modelling of underwater acoustic channel is performed based on measurement result in certain site at certain times. Different sites might have different characteristics, each of which can generally be described by a model obtained by averaging measurement results at multiple points in the same environment. This paper describes a characterization of the underwater acoustic channel of tropical shallow water in a Mangrove estuary, which has sediment up to 60 cm at the bottom. Such a channel model is beneficial for the design of communication system in an autonomous underwater vehicle, for instance. The measurement result of delay spread parameter from three different points with the distance of 14 ~ 52 m, has various values. The root mean square (RMS) of delay spread ranges between 0.0621 ~ 0.264 ms, and the maximum delay spread varies with the value of 0.187 ~ 1.0 ms. The pdf fitting shows that Rayleigh distribution describes the fading variation more accurately than Nakagami and Ricean.
