Abstract

In the current digital era, mastering information technology and foreign language skills is very important to prepare the younger generation to face challenges throughout the world, but at SDN Kaliputih there are no special subjects and there are only extracurriculars about information and communication technology (ICT). Meanwhile, English subjects are only given to grades one and four. Based on the problems faced by SD N Kaliputih, UMNU Kebumen students and lecturers held basic training activities on the use of Ms.Office which focused on Microsoft Word and English for class IV students. This training was attended by 23 students consisting of men and women. This activity aims to see the impact of basic Microsoft Word and English training on improving the skills of class IV students at Kaliputih State Elementary School. Activities are carried out using qualitative descriptive methods and direct practice. From the results of the activities we carried out we got results: students mastered the various menus or displays provided by Microsoft Word and were able to operate them well. For the English training itself, the students seemed to enjoy and be more confident in speaking English vocabulary than before. This training is very useful for elementary school students to increase insight and knowledge about the Microsoft Word application and increase English vocabulary, so that students are able to hone their skills by following developments in digital technology and correct English pronunciation.

Abstract

This research explores how student character is formed through Project-Based Learning (PjBL) through the Cross Cultural Understanding (CCU) course. PJBL offers students the opportunity to address real-life challenges and problems. In addition, PjBL also encourages a more dynamic classroom approach. This research used a qualitative research design. This research shows that the PjBL method is in line with the concept of 21st-century learning, namely in developing student character, including critical thinking, creativity, communicative and collaborative. In general, PjBL provides a different set of skills than those usually obtained in traditional teaching and learning, making it a viable learning model for shaping student character so they can face new lives in the challenges of society 5.0. Studying the effect of project-based learning on student character development within the CCU framework in Indonesia is a significant topic of research. Learning is a complex journey that extends beyond just acquiring academic knowledge, and the growth of students' personality, principles, and cultural understanding is equally significant. This research involved 25 individuals, including students and lecturers, selected through random sampling. Data collection includes interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis. The research results show three main things in cultivating student character: strengthening communication skills, teamwork and understanding related to moral values in CCU. This study provides valuable information for lecturers and policymakers to improve the quality of education. Including PJBL in CCU is a promising approach to prepare students for the complexities of a globalized society like Indonesia and other culturally varied countries.

Abstract

This study dealt with students’ responses on teachers’ strategies in teaching speaking. The research was conducted at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Kebumen from May to October 2022. This research belongs to a survey research design. Researcher collected quantitative, numbered data by using questionnaires; and then, statistically analyzed the data to describe trends about responses to questions. The study involved 3 teachers teaching for the speaking class at the school and 113 students joining the class. The research revealed that there were six teachers’ strategies to have been familiarly applied. They were role plays, dialogues, discussions, playing cards, picture describing, and brainstorming. It was also found that in terms of the time allocation, the subject content, and value for the future life, the students responded positively to the teaching strategies used by the teachers. Abstract

Abstract

This study analyses the correlation between participation in English Club participation and student English learning achievement at MAN 2 Kebumen. This study aims to determine the relationship between student participation in extracurricular English Club and student learning achievement. This research is a quantitative research with correlation method. The population of this study was grade XI students of MAN 2 Kebumen with a sample of grade XI selected using purposive sampling technique for sample selection because the target sample taken was students who participated in the English Club. The research data were selected by using two instruments; questionnaire and documentation data. The researcher used a closed questionnaire with the respondent choosing the answer 'yes or no' with the documents used being student learning outcomes. The questionnaire was distributed to students who are members of the English Club. Then the results were analyzed by calculation using the Spearman correlation analysis method using SPSS software with a significance level, the author obtained a significant correlation of 0.008. The result is 0.008 < 0.05. Since 0.008 is smaller than 0.005 (0.008 < 0.05), this means that there is a relationship between student participation in tutoring and the variable of student English learning achievement. Furthermore, from the data analysis, a spearman correlation of 0.621 was found, which means that the correlation is strong according to the correlation interpretation table. Based on the research results, the null hypothesis is rejected. The analysis showed a significant positive correlation between students' involvement in English Club and their English learning achievement. This finding indicates that involvement in language-based extracurricular activities can support students' academic achievement in English learning.
