Abstract

Peningkatan mutu layanan merupakan salah satu faktor penunjang untuk memenangkan persaingan global yang semakin kompetitif di dunia perhotelan. Keterampilan komunikasi, khususnya berbicara menjadi tuntutan agar sebuah hotel memiliki citra yang baik di hadapan konsumen. Namun demikian, tidak semua hotel memiliki sumber daya manusia yang memiliki kemampuan komunikasi wicara yang cakap. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi dalam bahasa Inggris, khususnya keterampilan berbicara bagi karyawan di hotel Mexolie, Kebumen. Metode pelatihan dilakukan dengan cara ceramah, demonstrasi, dan role playing. Tema pelatihan mencakup layanan perhotelan and penanganan keluhan. Peserta pelatihan terdiri atas 10 orang karyawan dari departemen front office dan house keeping. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan kemampuan karyawan dalam keterampilan berbicara menggunakan bahasa Inggris. Hal ini diketahui dari hasil rata-rata nilai pretes yaitu 58.8 sedangkan nilai rata-rata postes diperoleh 75.6. Pelatihan ini telah berjalan efektif karena dapat meningkatkan kompetensi komunikasi karyawan hotel Mexolie, Kebumen sehingga mendukung peningkatan profesionalitas pelaksanaan tugas sehari-hari di tempat kerja. Sebagai tindak lanjut, disarankan agar pihak hotel dapat mengadakan English zone untuk membiasakan karyawan menggunakan bahasa Inggris di lingkungan kerja.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze Indonesian text and English text from images using digital image processing. The method used in this research is an experimental method such as: literature review , identification problems, hypotheses, analyzing materials, designing programs, conducting tests and drawing conclusions. The result of this research is to detect the text contained in the image. This research result a digital image processing program in text that is containing from an image that has text in it, using input or input in form of a character image. The image that will be recognized into text with Tesseract OCR and output the text detected by the program. This program can show the level of accuracy to recognize characters and words. It conducted kind of testing on 8 images use several of text characters on it. In this case, the system can recognize characters on the text form, with an average accuracy 96% of the test data taken on images sourced from the internet. According to the testing results, this level of accuracy indicates that this application is quite accurate and efficient in identification the image of certain word or text character.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the derivational affix process and to describe the type of derivation in the lyrics of The Weeknd’s songs from the After Hours album. Based on the 14 songs contained in the album, the method used to conduct this research is a qualitative method. The data is taken from the album AFTER HOURS from The Weeknd. The theory used is the basis of affix derivation and other derivatives. Based on the results of the study, there were 15 lyrics containing affix derivation and found that there were 6 prefixes and 9 suffixes.

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to improve students’ English skills through Peer Tutoring Method. The research was conducted in order to solve the problem encountered in the classroom; the students lack of interested in English. The design of this research was qualitative. It was obtained through observation and questionnaire tests. The writers apply them to know the improvement of students’ English skills through Peer Tutoring Method. Through questionnaire tests, the writers reflected students’ performance in a meeting for the second cycle. The writers took 2 cycles. The subjects of this research were third semester of University of Ma’arif Nahdlatul Ulama Kebumen in academic year 2022/2023. On first cycle, students felt bored, lack of confidence, and common mistake in English. On second cycle, the students’ motivation increased, students’ enthusiastic increased, and students’ English skills increased. The result of this research showed the using of peer tutoring method in the teaching and learning process was effective to improve students’ English skills.

Abstract

The object of this research is to describe and comprehensively understand cognition in second language acquisition in children aged 1; 5 years: a formal approach to the type of Krashen monitor theory. The method in this study uses a qualitative approach. Qualitative because based on taking a historical data in the form of observation and recording using electronic media as a recorder of speech forms. Data is collected through data collection by recording and then recording one word and two words from the child's speech then describing it syntactically the words that the child uttered. The method used is observation and conversation by asking a few questions. The object in this study was a child named Azka Ghaisan who was 1; 5 years old. The findings in this study were to test the development of second language acquisition with the type of monitor theory. The model theory is applied in children aged 1, 5 years who have a first language (Javanese) and a second language (Indonesian). So that we can know the level of mastery of each language with the type of monitor model. The findings are: 1. Language acquisition and learning can be carried out in the environment sphere, 2. The development of L2 language learning is more interactive if using media, and 3. Language problems can be solved if it gives the child the opportunity to talk and control unstable emotions in the speakers when speaking.

Abstract

Improving service quality is one of the supporting factors to winning the increasingly competitive globalcompetition in the hospitality world. Communication skills, especially speaking, are demanded for ahotel to have a good image in front of consumers. However, not all hotels have human resources with good communication skills. This community service aims to improve communication skills in English,especially speaking skills for employees at the Mexolie hotel, Kebumen. The method of training wasconducted by lecturing, demonstrating, and role playing. Theme covers hotel services and handlingcomplaints. The training participants consisted of 10 employees from the front office andhousekeeping departments. The results of the training show that there is an increase in the ability ofemployees to speak English fluently. This is known from the results of the average pretest score of58.8 while the posttest average value is 75.6. The training has been effective because it can improvethe communication competence of the employees of the Mexolie Hotel, Kebumen so that it supportsthe increase in professionalism in carrying out daily tasks in the workplace. As a follow-up, it issuggested that the hotel hold an English zone to familiarize employees with applying their knowledgein using English in the work environment.

Abstract

English is a very important language nowadays, therefore many people learn english just to get a job and so on. learning english is very complex because english consists of four skills, namely speaking, writing, reading, and listening. listening skill is the most difficult skill compared to other skills because we need to understand what other people are saying. understanding sentences spoken by native speakers is a fairly complicated problem experienced by people learning a second language, especially for third semester students at universitas ma'arif nahdlatul ulama. the purpose of this study, to formulate the problems faced by PBG third semester students at universitas ma'arif nahdlatul ulama in learning listening comprehension. second, formulate the factors that affect difficulties in learning listening comprehension. third, formulate ways to overcome these problems. The study's findings show that the students had difficulties with the following: (1) they had trouble understanding the main idea and supporting details; (2) they lacked vocabulary; (3) they showed less initiative when reading; (4) they had trouble understanding the speaker's accent; (5) they lost focus; and (6) they had less desire to communicate

Abstract

This study analyzes the language development of a three-year-old child, Abizard Naufal Muttaqin, focusing on phonological, morphological, and semantic aspects. Data is collected through observation and video recording using a descriptive qualitative research approach. The study shows that Abizard's language development is typical for his age, with notable progress in phonological and morphological skills. However, his semantic skills require further development. Effective strategies for supporting language learning in early childhood are provided, such as reading to children, encouraging verbal communication, and providing a rich language environment. The study emphasizes the importance of supporting language development in early childhood and contributes to the existing knowledge on language acquisition. Parents and educators can use these findings to help children develop their language skills.

Abstract

In the current digital era, mastering information technology and foreign language skills is very important to prepare the younger generation to face challenges throughout the world, but at SDN Kaliputih there are no special subjects and there are only extracurriculars about information and communication technology (ICT). Meanwhile, English subjects are only given to grades one and four. Based on the problems faced by SD N Kaliputih, UMNU Kebumen students and lecturers held basic training activities on the use of Ms.Office which focused on Microsoft Word and English for class IV students. This training was attended by 23 students consisting of men and women. This activity aims to see the impact of basic Microsoft Word and English training on improving the skills of class IV students at Kaliputih State Elementary School. Activities are carried out using qualitative descriptive methods and direct practice. From the results of the activities we carried out we got results: students mastered the various menus or displays provided by Microsoft Word and were able to operate them well. For the English training itself, the students seemed to enjoy and be more confident in speaking English vocabulary than before. This training is very useful for elementary school students to increase insight and knowledge about the Microsoft Word application and increase English vocabulary, so that students are able to hone their skills by following developments in digital technology and correct English pronunciation.
