Abstract

- English plays a very crucial role, especially for education aspect. Teachers are further required for having good skills in English communication both in learning with their students and also other people. It is hoped that the ability to communicate in English will open up opportunities for teachers, students and schools to have careers, national landscapes, as well as dig up information both at the global and international levels. Seeing the importance of using the ability to communicate in English, the community service team from the English Language Education Study Program at the University of Muhammadiyah Bengkulu provided training (workshop) for teachers at IT IQRA Middle School, Bengkulu City. This activity provides provision, knowledge and training for teachers so that they are proficient in speaking English. The methods used in this training include material assistance (lectures), discussions; question and answer, and practice speaking English. Prior to the training, a pretest was given to see the initial ability of the teachers to master spoken English. Then they were given training and carried out a post test to see the results of their participation in the English speaking training. From the results of the activities of the IT IQRA Middle School teachers, it can be interpreted that in general the training activities provided positive results, namely growing the enthusiasm and interest of teachers to use English in their daily activities while at school. In the aspect of communication skills, some teachers are already very skilled in speaking and this ability makes other teachers become brave and speak English more often. It is hoped that this training activity can be followed up considering how motivated the teachers are through a sustainable program that can be carried out through a broader cooperation program.

Abstract

Pramoedya’s Mangir has long attracted critical attention for its ambiguity, particularly concerning whether the text reflects misogynistic tendencies or a feminist critique of women’s oppression. This article argues that Pramoedya adopts a feminist perspective; a writer who empathetically portrays female’s struggles, affirms women’s resistance to patriarchy, and values the women in his life cannot be considered misogynistic. Through his depictions of sympathetic characterization, and subtle criticism of patriarchal power, Pramoedya presents his female as a complex female torn between loyalty and love. This article presents an analysis Mangir work using gender representation theory to determine whether the narrative reinforces misogyny or challenges patriarchal authority. Employing qualitative textual analysis, it explores female agency, patriarchal domination, and structural violence within the socio-political context of Mataram. Pambayun—caught between political manipulation and emotional vulnerability—emerges as the central figure illustrating the contradictions of gendered power relations. The findings show that while the narrative depicts women’s oppression and objectification, Pramoedya simultaneously constructs a subtle feminist voice by exposing patriarchal cruelty, critiquing male political ambition, and highlighting women’s emotional and moral resilience. Rather than supporting misogyny, Mangir functions as a critique of patriarchal injustice, using female suffering to reveal the consequences of gendered power. This research contributes to broader discussions of gender politics in Indonesian literature and positions Mangir as a text open to feminist interpretation.

Abstract

This study aims to find out teachers roles in overcoming difficulties in learning English of junior high students special needs schools (SLB) at Bengkulu city. The background of this problem arises because SLB students still face difficulties in learning English, while the role of teachers in overcoming these difficulties has not been clearly described. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with Observation Sheet and Question Lists instruments. The results of the study show that 10 teacher roles according to Harmer in (Naibaho, 2019) are applied in teaching English to overcome the difficulties of learning English for junior high students in Special Needs Schools (SLB) in Bengkulu City. However, the level of implementation varies depending on the classroom context and student needs. There are 10 teacher roles in teaching children with special needs, namely (1) controller (2) organizer (3) assessor (4) prompter (5) participant (6) resource (7) tutor (8) observer (9) performer and (10) teaching aids. Teachers carry out these roles in overcoming students' learning difficulties by guiding each student with special needs individually, repeating instructions and materials gradually, managing the class in a structured manner, providing direct examples through gestures and facial expressions, and using learning media that are appropriate to the conditions and needs of students. Researchers suggest that English teachers in special needs schools continue to optimize their roles in learning, because teaching students with special needs requires appropriate and consistent strategies. For future researchers who are interested in conducting similar research, it is recommended to conduct a more in depth analysis of the implementation of each teacher's role and also at other levels of education.

Abstract

This study examines the representation of women's ecological agency in Robert Frost's selected poems through Karen J. Warren's ecofeminist philosophy. This study investigates how feminine figures and feminized natural elements function as ecological subjects in Spoils of the Dead, The Tuft of Flowers, Wind and Window Flower, Gathering Leaves, and Asking for Roses. Employing a qualitative descriptive design, the research uses thematic textual analysis based on Warren's concepts of hierarchical dualism, the logic of domination, ecological ethics, and the ethic of care. The findings reveal Frost constructs women's ecological agency through four interrelated roles: ecological guidance, ethical mediation, environmental stewardship, and respectful negotiation with nature. He presents them as active ecological mediators who foster care, reciprocity, conservation, and contextual responsibility. Shortly, Frost's poetry advances an ecofeminist vision in which sustainable human nature relationships are achieved through ethical coexistence rather than domination. These findings enrich ecofeminist literary criticism by highlighting women's transformative roles in promoting ecological harmony and environmental responsibility.

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to determine students' perceptions of the role of poetry in learning English pronunciation. This study used a quantitative descriptive method involving students of the English Language Education Study Program at the Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu as research participants. Data were collected through a questionnaire consisting of 20 statements using a five-point Likert scale. The data obtained were then analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques in the form of average values (means) and percentages. The results showed that students had a positive perception of the use of poetry in learning English pronunciation with an overall average value of 3.77, which is included in the high category. Poetry is considered an effective learning medium because it can help students improve segmental aspects such as vowels and consonants as well as suprasegmental aspects including word stress, rhythm, and intonation. In addition, the use of poetry also has a positive impact on students' affective factors by increasing self-confidence and motivation and reducing anxiety in learning English pronunciation. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that poetry has an important role in supporting the development of students' English pronunciation skills and can be used as an alternative learning medium in EFL classes.
