Abstract

ABSTRACT North Sulawesi, including the Tompaso region, South Minahasa district, is a part of the magmatic belts hosting potential hydrothermal ore deposits. This study is aimed to determine the prospect area for epithermal vein-type gold mineralization, based on geochemical exploration including rock and BLEG (Bulk Leach Extractable Gold) stream sediment geochemistry. Mapping of geology, alteration and vein direction, sampling (ore/rock and stream sediment), and geochemical analysis were performed. Gold in rock samples was analyzed by FA/AAS, and other elements were detected by AAS, while BLEG samples were analyzed using the cyanide leach and AAS methods. The study area is occupied by andesitic lava and diorite, which are suffered by silica-clay, argillic and propylitic alteration. An integration of geological mapping, alteration zones and vein direction with lithogeochemical survey enables to determine the prospect areas, which consist of Asam and Polangkok prospects. At the Asam prospect, the ore sample contains gold up to 0.03 ppm, where the gold anomaly in BLEG samples show a threshold of 13.52 ppb Au. At the Polangkok prospect, two NW-SE trending veins (P1 and P2 Veins) were discovered with a width of up to 5 m. Vein P1 and P2 contains of up to 0.31 and 0.16 ppm Au, respectively. Mineralization at the Polangkok prospect coincides with Ag anomaly of BLEG samples with a threshold of 67.18 ppb. The two prospect areas are recommended for follow-up exploration.

Abstract

Coal is a non-renewable energy resource that has been the main source of energy and the most important in the world. Resource coal plays a strategic role in economic and social development in many industrialized countries [3, 4, 6]. Coal mining activities may cause a series of environmental and socio-economic issues in communities around the mining area. Mining can become an obstacle to environmental sustainability and a major hidden danger to the security of the local ecology [3, 4, 6]. Therefore, the coal mining industry should follow some specific principles and factors in achieving sustainable development. These factors include geological conditions, land use, mining technology, environmental sustainability policies and government regulations, socio-economic factors, as well as sustainability optimization for postmining land use. Resources of the remains of the coal which is defined as the last remaining condition of the resources and reserves of coal when the coal companies have already completed the life of the mine [1, 2, 5] or the expiration of the licensing contract (in accordance with government permission). This research uses approch of knowledge-driven GIS based methods mainly Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Fuzzy logic for utilizing coal remaining resources and post-mining land use planning. The mining area selected for this study belongs to a PKP2B (Work Agreement for Coal Mining) company named Adaro Indonesia (PT Adaro).

Abstract

Almost geological data variable contain some degree of uncertainty. Most decisions in mineral exploration was based on geological reports, measurements, calculations as well as ignorance of the geological uncertainty underlies all natural risks of the exploration effort. Risks affecting mineral exploration activities, among others caused by several things. Inherent natural variability in the process of geology and geological objects. Uncertainty on the conceptual and models, associated with incomplete knowledge and subjective interpretations of processes and geological objects. Errors can also occur when observing, measuring or evaluating samples or mathematical analysis of geological data. Data from exploration activities, can be grouped into two types of data, namely quantitative data (e g; grade) and qualitative data (geological data). Geological data variables still largely a qualitative data, resulting between some geologists are not infrequent errors of judgment (assessment of subjective data). This leads to misinterpretation of results of exploration that will ultimately impact on the exploration risk assessment. Currently, the quantification of qualitative data variable is one parameter which is becoming a necessity, because it will be easier in terms of interpretation, communication and measurable. Porphyry Cu - Au deposit in the Randu Kuning Prospect, Wonogiri has the characteristic geometry and grade distribution are quite complex. It is characterized by the appearance of some kind of vein and stockwork with different characteristics. Quantification of geological variables will result in a value that allows the quantification in quantifying exploration risk. For quantitative variables data (grade) using geostatistical methods, while for qualitative variables geological data using canonical correlation and multivariable regression.

Abstract

This paper is intended to describe an preliminary study of geological setting and gold mineralization hosted by metamorphic rocks in the southeastern arm of Sulawesi. The stratigraphy consists of three constituent rocks are continental terrain composed of metamorphic rocks, ophiolite complex are dominated by mafic and ultramafic rocks and Sulawesi Molasse composed of clastic sediments and carbonate. The origin of gold mineralization at Mendoke and Rumbia mountains only preliminary studies. A field study indicates that the Langkowala placer/paleoplacer gold is possibly related to gold-bearing quartz veins hosted by metamorphic rocks particularly mica schist, phyllite and metasediments in the area. These quartz veins are currently recognized in metamorphic rocks at Wumbubangka Mountains, a northern flank of Rumbia Mountain Range. At least, there are three generations of the quartz veins. The first generation of quartz vein is parallel to foliation of mica schist, phyllites and metasediments in up to 10 m wide zones. The second quartz vein generation crosscut the first quartz vein and the foliation of the wallrock. The third is of laminated deformed quartz-calcite veins at the late stage. The first veins are mostly massive to crystalline, occasionally brecciated and sigmoidal, whereas the second veins are narrower than the first and relatively brecciated. Gold grades in the second and third veins are relatively higher than that in first veins. The similar quartz veins types are also probably present in Mendoke mountain range, in the northern side of Langkowala area. The wallrock are generally weakly altered. Alteration types include argillic, silification, carbonate and carbonization alteration. This primary gold deposit is called as orogenic gold type and product of hydrothermal activity. The orogenic gold deposit is one of the new target of gold exploration are being developed in Indonesia.

Abstract

Tirtomoyo in Wonogiri district is known as an ore mineralization region, in which one of the prospects occurred is Hargosari. No previous studies on the ore characteristucs have been done. A set of study on Hargosari prospect is aimed to characterize gold mineralization covering some aspects such as mineralogy, textures, ore chemistry and ore forming condition. To achieve the objectives, some research methods were performed suh as mapping, sampling and laboratory analyses for selected samples on term of petrography, ore microscopy and ore chemistry. Oligo-Miocene andesitic lava from Panggang Formation is identified as host rock. Opening system of veins is of jogs type to form en-´echelon tension gash veins. Quartz veins are enveloped by argillic and propylitic alteration zones, in association with pyrite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, galena, gold, silver, chrysocolla, covellite and hematite. The approximately 5 cm thick quartz veins exhibit massive, swarm, low angle veins and stockwork structures, which is characterized by normal banded, crustiform, comb and saccaroidal textures. The quartz veins contain high base metals of up to 5.45% Cu, 9.9% Pb and 12.85% Zn, with significant grade of gold and silver of up to 3.85 g/t Au dan 395 g/t Ag. From mineral assemblages, the veins might be formed at temperatures of about 250-300°C. On the basis of those mentioned characteristics, gold mineralization in Hargosari prospect is categorized into an intermediate sulfidation epithermal. Keywords: characteristics, gold, epithermal, Hargosari, Wonogiri.

Abstract

Study of gold deposit in Mesel, Ratatotok, North Sulawesi has been conducted by numerous experts, but there has been no detailed research on other prospects near Mesel, like Yance and Leon where this study is conducted. The objectives of this study is to determine the differences in the characteristics of hydrothermal alteration and ore mineralization in the Yance and Leon Prospects. Core sample description, microscopic analyses (petrography, ore microscopy), X-Ray Diffraction, and SEM-EDX are the methods used to identify those characteristics. The results of these analyses indicate that limestone and collapse breccia controlled alteration and mineralization in this area. Hydrothermal alteration that are developed in this area are silicification, silica-calcite, illitesmectite- chlorite±calcite. Ore minerals are found as dissemination, replacement, and open-space fill, such as pyrite, arsenopyrite, realgar, orpiment, hematite, and goethite, with gangue minerals such as quartz, calcite, dolomite, gypsum, chlorite, kaolinite, illite, smectite, and rhomboclase. Analysis on mineral chemistry identify numerous elements, essentially Fe, S, As, Cu, Au, Ag, Sb, Cd, Co, and Ni where average Co content is higher than average Ni. The difference in characteristics between the two research sites is that the source rock of the Yance Block has limestone lithology and polymyctite breccia, while in the Leon Block the source rock is limestone. Alterations that have developed in the Yance Block include decalcification, silicification, silica-calcite, and illit-smectite-chlorite±calcite with replacement-type and open-space fillingmineralization, while in theLeon Block is silicification, silica-calcite. , and illite-smectite-chlorite±calcite with the dominant type of replacement mineralization. The ore minerals found in the Yance Block include pyrite, arsenopyrite, realgar, orpimen, hematite, goethite, while in the Leon Block they are pyrite and hematite.
