Abstract

Corn is a plant that grows easily in tropical climates. Corn production in Indonesia reaches 25.18 tons, the use of which in society is still limited to corn kernels as food, while other parts of the corn plant are waste. Corn husks are an abundant natural waste and contain 44.08% cellulose, so they can potentially be a source of pharmaceutical excipients, namely microcrystalline cellulose (MCC). This research aims to isolate and characterize MCC from pharmaceutical grade corn husks with commercial MCC as a comparator. The two methods of making MCC are delignification using 2% NaOH at 80-90°C 4 h. Hydrolysis using variations in HCl concentrations, namely 2 N, 4 N, and 6 N, at a temperature of 80°C 4 h. The research results obtained cellulose content in α-cellulose and MCC of corn husks with 3 consecutive treatments of 74.02%, 84.48%, 86.55%, and 84.44%. The result of the analysis test of FTIR, SEM, XRD, and PSA instruments indicate that corn husk MCC has characteristics of commercial MCC as a standard. The resulting corn husk MCC has physicochemical characteristics according to standards that can be used as a pharmaceutical excipient.

Abstract

Senduduk bulu wild plant contains secondary metabolite compounds which used natural reducing agent on synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). This research determine the optimum extract concentration and temperature in the process synthesis of silver nanoparticle, characteristics of silver nanoparticles and antibacterial activity of silver nanoparticles against S.aureus and E.coli. Synthesis of silver nanoparticles senduduk bulu leaf using variations extract concentration and temperature variations. The characteristics of silver nanoparticles senduduk bulu leaf were carried out using a UV-Vis Spectrophotometry, Particle Size Analyzer (PSA) and Scanning Electron Microscopy – Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (SEM-EDS). Antibacterial activity testing used the disc diffusion method. The results of research showed the silver nanoparticles of senduduk bulu leaf were successfully synthesized under optimal conditions an extract concentration of 1% and temperature of 60ºC indicated the colloid color changing to brown and maximum wavelength value of 413 nm with absorbance value of 2.9987. The size of colloidal AgNPs of senduduk bulu leaf was 59.2 ± 1.03 nm; zeta potential value -39.3±0.509 mV. The morphology of the AgNPs of senduduk bulu non uniform shape, the crystal size distribution is 50 – 230 nm with an average of 136 nm. The chemical composition of AgNPs crystals shows that silver (Ag) dominates with a weight concentration of 37.688% and atomic concentration of 7.605% at the peak of the 3 KeV spectrum. Feathered AgNPs had antibacterial activity against S.aureus of 14.1 ± 0.3 mm and E. coli of 13.5 ± 0.2 mm. Abstract

Chrysanthemum plants do need enough water, but they can't withstand heavy rain. Several times, bad weather, such as strong winds, causes chrysanthemum farmers to suffer losses because about 90% of chrysanthemums are usually used for event decorations. With the development of food processing technology, chrysanthemums are made into jam with natural sweeteners (Stevia). This encourages our service group to hold counseling and training on chrysanthemum flower processing through the Sido Makmur Farmer Women Group Bandungan. This activity was attended by 20 participants and included product making and counseling about chrysanthemums as antioxidants in jelly food preparations, which can increase the selling value. The service team introduced the method of making natural sweeteners from stevia leaves and used them in the product "Selly Sante" directly to the cadre group. From this activity, the results of the pre-test and post-test showed that as many as 80% of participants experienced an increase in understanding

Abstract

Lendir siput (Achatina fulica) kaya akan protein achasin yang memiliki sifat antibakteri. Kandungan achasin tersebut dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri termasuk bakteri penyebab jerawat Staphylococcus aureus, sehingga dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai kosmetik antijerawat. Salah satu pengembangan sediaan kosmetik adalah sediaan kosmetik sparyable hydrogel. Bentuk sediaan sprayable hidrogel yang dapat disemprotkan dapat memberi keuntungan lebih dari sediaan gel karena mengandung pelembab yang lebih tinggi sehingga bisa meningkatkan kelembapan kulit pada kondisi peradangan karena jerawat. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui daya hambat sediaan gel terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus. Lendir siput diformulasikan dalam sediaan sprayable hidrogel dengan variasi konsentrasi lendir yaitu 10%, 20%, dan 30% menggunakan alginat rumput laut cokelat dan aloe vera gel base sebagai basisnya. Metode aktivitas antibakteri dilakukan dengan metode difusi agar dengan cara sumuran. Evaluasi karakteristik fisik sediaan gel meliputi organoleptik, homogenitas, daya sebar, pH, dan viskositas. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa sediaan sparyable hydrogel lendir siput dengan konsentrasi 30% memiliki aktivitas penghambatan tertinggi terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dengan zona hambat yaitu 0,94+0,01 mm.

Abstract

The quest for better and more effective treatments has encouraged the search for therapies derived from natural sources to obtain effective immune therapy, considering that several pandemics have arisen caused by viruses. Developing fucoidan from brown algae in drug encapsulation as an immunomodulator could be more promising. This study aimed to produce nanoencapsulation loaded with fucoidan-purified extract from brown algae and to evaluate the influence of nanoencapsulation formulation on the immunomodulatory activity of fucoidan. Fucoidan was obtained from brown algae and extracted by hot aqueous, followed by ethanol purification. Nanoencapsulation of fucoidan purified extract was prepared using the ionic gelation method. The carbon clearance method was carried out for the immunomodulatory activity test of the nanoencapsulation of fucoidan purified extract. Nanoencapsulation of fucoidan purified extract with the optimum composition of maltodextrin 9.9% and S-TPP 0.1% (1:5) resulted in particle size of 715.4 nm, zeta potential -0.1 mV, pH 7.54, transmittance 97.54%+0.08, and entrapment efficiency 89.94%+0.17. The carbon clearance test showed that the nanoencapsulation of fucoidan was a strong immunostimulant with a phagocytosis index of 1.65. The development of nanoencapsulation could increase the phagocytosis index of fucoidan purified extracts from brown algae. Further molecular studies are needed to demonstrate the molecular activity of this preparation as an immunomodulator.

Abstract

This study aimed to optimize and formulate the poorly water-soluble naringenin in the Self-Nano Emulsifying Drug Delivery System (SNEDDS) using D-optimal mixture design. D-optimal mixture design was used to optimize SNEDDS loading naringenin by selecting SNEDDS composition as an independent factor and SNEDDS characterization as a response. SNEDDS in the optimal formula were characterized, including transmittance, particle size, emulsification time, and drug loading. Triacetin, Tween 80, and transcutol p were respectively the selected oil, surfactant, and co-surfactant phases for their greatest ability to dissolve naringenin. The optimization results showed that the optimal formula was that using 10% triacetin, 70% of Tween 80, and 20% of transcutol p. SNEDDS loading naringenin produced nanoemulsion with 88.74±2.27 % of transmittance, 14.8 nm of particle size, 51.13 ± 4.53 mg/L of drug loading, and 18.58 ± 0.62 second of emulsification time. This study concludes that the D-optimal mixture design can be used to optimize and prepare the SNEDDS loading poorly-water soluble naringenin.

Abstract

Prevalensi kejadian gangguan penglihatan masih sangat tinggi, namun penggunaan sediaan obat tetes mata di masyarakat masih mengalami kendala terkait cara penggunaannya. Oleh sebab itu, penting bagi pasien untuk mengetahui cara penggunaan yang tepat agar menjamin keberhasilan pengobatan dan mencegah terjadinya efek yang tidak diinginkan. Berdasarkan pokok permasalahan tersebut, maka dilakukan penyuluhan DAGUSIBU obat tetes mata yang dilakukan di SMAN 02 Semarang. Pada penyuluhan ini digunakan metode Particatory Rural Appraisal (PRA). Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilakukan dengan cara penyampaian materi dengan power point dan pemberian informasi DAGUSIBU obat tetes mata dengan leaflet. Berdasarkan hasil kegiatan yang telah dilakukan, siswa-siswi SMAN 02 Semarang memperoleh pengetahuan tentang DAGUSIBU obat tetes mata dan mampu menerapkannya dengan baik dan benar. Hasil kegiatan ini diharapkan memberikan dampak positif, sehingga dapat menekan terjadinya kesalahan dalam penggunaan obat tetes mata.

Abstract

Desa Kenteng, merupakan salah satu Desa di Kecamatan Bandungan, Semarang Jawa Tengah yang terkenal dengan petani bunga potong krisan. Saat ini petani di Desa Kenteng menjual bunga krisan hanya untuk tanaman hias dan dekorasi. Selain sebagai bunga hias sebenarnya bunga krisan memiliki banyak komponen nutrisi yang dapat berfungsi sebagai antioksidan untuk kesehatan dan kecantikan. Hal ini yang menggugah kelompok pengabdian kami untuk melakukan penyuluhan dan pelatihan pengolahan bunga krisan melalui kelompok tani bunga krisan setempat. Kegiatan yang dilaksanakan adalah berupa penyuluhan mengenai penghilangan pestisida agar tercipta bunga krisan dengan kualitas yang baik dan sehat, serta pemaparan khasiat lain dari bunga krisan sebagai lulur kosmetik serta teh antioksidan. Tim pengabdian akan memperkenalkan metode pengolahan bunga krisan hingga menjadi produk teh dan mangir secara langsung kepada kelompok kader. Hasil dari pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat diterima dengan antusias dan seluruh peserta mengikuti kegiatan pelatihan cara pembuatan lulur dan teh. Lebih dari 90% peserta memahami sosialisasi dan pelatihan yang diberikan. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat telah berlangsung dengan sukses dan lancar. Peserta pengabdian juga berharap adanya kelanjutan kegiatan pelatihan mengenai tata cara perijinan dan pemasaran produk.
