Abstract

Hydrazine is a dangerous chemical compound that is widely used in various industries. The presence of this compound in the waters resulting from the disposal of industrial waste must be monitored and controlled for its presence. For this reason, a sensor is needed that can be used to detect the presence of this compound in the waters. Commercial carbon electrodes are environmentally friendly materials and are relatively cheap to be used as potential sensor materials, but these materials have low electrochemical activity and are hydrophobic. To increase the electrochemical activity of the carbon electrode, modifications were carried out using CuS-Nafion and CuS@rGO-Nafion materials which were synthesized through solvothermal reactions and dropped-casting on the surface of the carbon electrodes. The modification was successfully carried out which was shown by the results of scanning electron microscopy which had a high response to the hydrazine compound shown from the results of cyclic voltammetry (CV) analysis. The best result is shown by carbon electrode modified using CuS@rGO-Nafion materials. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) results showed excellent results where the Rct value was 2178 Ω which could facilitate high electron transfer on the modified electrode surface.

Abstract

A rapid development of the concrete construction sector has resulted in an increase in the need for concrete raw materials that are obtained directly from nature. The need for environmentally friendly materials is also increasing along with the development of construction engineering technology, so several studies have been conducted to search for an alternative to raw materials additives or concrete mixtures. Anadara granosa clam shell can be utilized as one of the alternative materials to substitute material for coarse aggregates. In this research, Anadara granosa clam shells of 10% and 13% were added to normal concrete mixtures, aged for 28 days, and then analyzed for characteristics and compressive strength. From the analysis of the results, it was found that an increase in the concrete compressive strength up to 103.67% or 233.47 Kg/cm2 with the addition of clam shells 10% to normal concrete mixtures, while the addition of more than 10% can reduce the concrete compressive strength. Scanning Electron Microscopy results showed a relatively rough surface and many pores on the surface of the concrete due to the addition of a clam shell. Finally, it can be concluded that Anadara granosa clam shells can be used as concrete additives with a maximum addition of 10% of the total weight of normal concrete.

Abstract

Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) is a family medicinal herb commonly used as a kitchen spice. Lemongrass contains essential oils such as citral, myrcene, geraniol, citronellol, and α-oxo bisabolene that have a high-selling value and benefits as a fungal growth inhibitor, antibacterial, anti-insect, and anti-cancer. Socialization about the benefits of lemongrass essential oils and training on producing its essential oils was conducted through community service. The activity material was delivered through a presentation, and training in processing lemongrass to essential oils was conducted through a demo activity directly in front of participants. This community service activity was held in the Plaju Darat urban village meeting hall involving family welfare empowerment representatives, the head of the neighborhood, and the urban village community as participants. Pre-tests and post-tests were given to participants to determine the level of their understanding of the material presented. The test results improved participants’ understanding of the benefits of essential oils and their processing methods. It was concluded that participants understood the benefits of lemongrass essential oils and knew how to produce them.
