Abstract

This study aims to design an inquiry-based learning model that integrates local wisdom about mangroves into primary school Social Studies to foster students' social attitudes. Employing a Research and Development approach with the 4D model (define, design, develop, disseminate), this research involved 6 primary school teachers and 60 fifth-grade students from coastal schools in Brebes Regency, Indonesia. Data were collected through needs analysis, expert validation, observations, interviews, and questionnaires. The resulting model systematically integrates seven-stage inquiry syntax with mangrove socio-ecological contexts, explicitly oriented toward developing cooperation, empathy, and responsibility. Expert validation by three specialists yielded an average feasibility score of 4.35 out of 5, indicating a very high level of validity. Limited trials revealed measurable improvements in students' social attitudes: cooperation increased by 18%, responsibility by 17%, and empathy by 15%. Qualitative data confirmed enhanced student engagement, collaboration, and environmental awareness. Teachers reported that the model effectively connected learning with students' real-life contexts, although they acknowledged the need for further training and assistance. This study contributes theoretically to contextual Social Studies pedagogy and, in practice, offers a sustainable instructional model for character education in coastal primary schools. The novelty lies in the systematic integration of inquiry-based learning, local mangrove wisdom, and explicit assessment of social attitudes within a single instructional design. Abstract

Industrial areas in Indonesia are increasing every year with a total of 136 industrial estates in 2024, of which 61.76% are in Java, such as Kendal Industrial Estate (KIE) with an increase in built-up land of 289.52 hectares (2015-2017). The problem is that the development was carried out by converting vegetation cover. The purpose of the study was to analyze the impact of the increase in built-up land on the environmental quality index around Kendal Industrial Estate. Research method with supervised classification Random Forest method and spectral transformation Risk Screening Enviromental Indicators with indicators of greenness index, humidity Index, dryness Index and heat index with Principal Component Analysis technique. The results showed that built-up land around KIE increased by 894.17 hectares which resulted in a decrease in vegetation cover of 184.71 hectares (2015-2024), this phenomenon had an impact on increasing low-level RSEI by around 2,028.31 hectares (2015-2024). The regression results show that the increase in built-up land and the reduction of vegetation cover have an impact on the decline in environmental quality in the study area. The contribution of the research results can be used as a database for regulation of land use change restrictions.

Abstract

Kecamatan Semarang Timur mengalami tingginya mobilitas kendaraan bermotor yang menyebabkan meningkatnya emisi CO₂. Penyediaan dan penambahan area hijau (RTH) menjadi salah satu solusi untuk mengurangi konsentrasi CO₂ di udara. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis biokapasitas RTH publik dalam penyerapan emisi CO₂ di Kecamatan Semarang Timur. Metode perhitungan emisi CO₂ menggunakan survei traffic counting dan wawancara konsumsi bahan bakar. Analisis dilakukan terhadap daya serap RTH publik, dan Biokapasitas penyerapan RTH terhadap emisi CO2. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan estimasi emisi CO₂ dari transportasi sebesar 8.546,735 ton CO₂/tahun. Total kemampuan daya serap RTH dan vegetasi rawa serta semak belukar sebesar 2.926,074 ton CO₂/tahun. Sebagian besar kelurahan di Kecamatan Semarang Timur memiliki biokapasitas rendah. Biokapasitas rendah menyebabkan tidak semua emisi CO₂ dapat diserap.

Abstract

Rapid urbanisation has increased population density in Tanah Abang District, Jakarta, posing considerable fire dangers.  This study uses the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Geographic Information System (GIS) to map fire risk levels in seven urban settlements.  Three key components were examined: hazard, vulnerability, and capacity.  Expert assessments determined the weight of each parameter, which was then spatially analysed using ArcGIS overlay techniques.  According to the findings, the majority of locations are classified as moderate risk, particularly dense settlements with restricted road access.  Petamburan Village is the most vulnerable due to high poverty rates and a big concentration of vulnerable groups, whereas Gelora Village is the least vulnerable due to lower population density and more organised land usage.  Mitigation initiatives have already been implemented, including fire safety education, fire extinguisher training, the formation of volunteer groups, and the installation of hydrants and extinguishers in public buildings.  These findings emphasise the need of building local capability and using GIS as a foundation for better fire risk reduction strategy.
