Abstract

Panggulawu village lies along Panggulawu beach of Sawa, northern konawe district, Southeast Sulawesi province. This village is mainly occupied by civil servants (PNS), fishermen and farmers. Nowadays, It is every citizen’s responsibility to remind each other about the danger of Covid-19 and the importance of how to limit the spread of the disease. Considering this issue, Institute of Research and Community Service Halu Oleo University arranged a team consisting of 3 academic-staff; two of them from Chemistry study program and one from Mining study program, and 3 students. All the three students were from Chemistry Department.  The aims of the team sent to the village is to educate people of Panggulawu about how to minimize the spread of Covid-19 disease. The method used in this community service included is public talking (mini seminar). During this community service, villagers got involved actively in discussion and participating actively during demonstration. They and their leaders were equally very enthusiastic and supportive.

Abstract

Abstract

Using methyl orange (MO) in dye industries can cause the accumulation of MO waste in aquatic systems, including seawater. A magnetic material-silica-zeolite (MM-SiO2-NZ) composite was investigated in vitro to adsorb methyl orange (MO) dye. MM-SiO2-NZ composite was characterized using FTIR, XRF, and VSM. Adsorption studies with pH, concentration, contact time, and temperature variations were carried out to determine the adsorption capacity. The MM-SiO2-NZ characterization results by FTIR showed the presence of OH groups from Fe-OH, Si-OH, and Al-OH, and there were Fe-O, Si-O, Al-O, Si-O-Si, and Si-O-Fe groups. The results of XRF characterization showed that the metal oxide content of Fe2O3 in magnetic material (MM) was 75.39% and decreased to 52.63% after the MM-SiO2-NZ composite was formed. The characterization using VSM indicated the magnetic properties of MM to be 44.083 emu/g, then decreased to 11.407 emu/g after being composited. The adsorption of MM-SiO2-NZ tends to follow the Langmuir adsorption isotherm with a Langmuir constant (KL) value of 1.332 L/mg. Furthermore, the adsorption kinetics followed the pseudo-second-order kinetics with a constant value (k2) of 3×10-2 g.mg/min. MO dye adsorption by MM-SiO2-NZ took place spontaneously with Gibbs free energy (ΔG), enthalpy (ΔH), and entropy (ΔS) values of -1.109 kJ/mol, -38.687 kJ/mol, and -12.402 kJ/mol, respectively.

Abstract

Desa Opaasi is one of the villages where many residents work as patchouli farmers. In 2022, the previous PKM team assisted the community by organizing equipment for distillation and purification of patchouli oil. The main focus of the current program is on the processing of patchouli harvests by farmers who still use conventional methods, such as using a machete to chop their patchouli harvests, making the process ineffective and inefficient. The PKMI 2023 Team then designed and created a patchouli chopping tool as a solution to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of farmers in chopping their patchouli harvests. Additionally, PKMI team showed technical guidance on the proper use and maintenance of the patchouli chopping tool was provided to the patchouli farmers to ensure optimal utilization and care.

Abstract

South Konawe Regency experienced a decrease in water supply and an increase in water demand, due the changes in land use caused by ongoing land exploitation, which increases runoff and decreases infiltration capacity. As a result, more water is lost to the ocean, threatening the water supply from Laeya River. Laeya River raw water is not only utilized for PDAM raw water sources, but also used to meet the domestic needs of the community, agricultural irrigation and plantations, so it is important to know the its sustainability status. This research aims to carrying out activities that control the water quality of the Laeya River, as well as to serve an information regarding the status model for the sustainability of raw water management, and to raise environmental awareness. This study was carried out in the Laeya River, South Konawe Regency. Sampling was conducted at three stations representing the upstream area of the Laeya River, the middle area and the downstream area. The Multi Dimensional Scaling (MDS) analysis method was used to conduct an analysis of the status of sustainable natural resource management for sustainable raw water supply. Based on the results can be concluded that Analysis of the 41 attributes derived from five dimensions resulted in 12 attributes acting as leverage factors in each dimension partially. To improve the sustainability status of raw water management in the research area, it is necessary to intervene the 12 attributes, namely 11 attributes that need to increase the intensity of their activities, and one attribute needs to be controlled and planned for its development properly. The results of the assessment of 41 attributes from five dimensionsin the management of the Laeya River for raw water supply in South Konawe Regency, currently is at less Sustainability status(Sustainability Index value of 36.63).KeywordsSustainability Raw WaterMDSMonte CarloRAPS-LaeyaSouth Konawe Regency
