Abstract

Securing universal access to affordable electricity by 2030 is one of the sustainable development goals. Meanwhile, energy consumption efficiency has a vital role in determining the achievement of this goal. Therefore, exploring behavior toward energy is crucial. Energy behavior is often characterized as individual actions that influence energy consumption and understanding of its production. On the other hand, the perspective of the young Indonesian generation is interesting to explore as their country is well-known as a fossil energy producer. In this study, the participants were 475 junior high school students in the ninth grade from four public schools in Indonesia. The questionnaire has 39 items that explore students’ perspectives on their behavior toward energy. The result shows that students’ energy behavior is mainly at a moderate level with no significant difference by gender. Students with experience in informal energy education showed higher energy behavior. The result suggests the urgency of a better quality of energy education, both formal and informal, that supports reinforcement in energy behavior.

Abstract

This research is the "Development" stage of the type of R&D research with the ADDIE Model (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluate). The teaching material developed in this study is a Handout entitled "TPACK Implementation on Energy Topic" to improve the teaching skills of pre-service teachers. This study describes the reading comprehension and feasibility of teaching material. The research instrument was a reading comprehension test sheet and a feasibility assessment sheet. The comprehension test was filled in by 184 students at one of the universities in Indonesia from the Department of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology Education. A feasibility Assessment reviewed by experts was conducted. The results showed that 1) The overall reading comprehension of teaching material was in the high level of an understanding category (independent category), 2) The Feasibility Assessment on the graphic and the language feasibility aspect were both in the very feasible category, 3) The Feasibility Assessment on the content feasibility aspect, presentation feasibility aspect, and contextual assessment aspect were all in the very feasible category. Based on these results, it can be concluded that teaching materials can be used in further research to be implemented

Abstract

Argumentation skill need to be enhanced through contextual problem with integrated STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). This study aims to develop worksheet of STEM-EDP based worksheets that focus on students' arguments on the topic of climate change. This research is a Research and Development (R&D) study using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) focused on ADD stages. Worksheet designs are prepared by containing STEM indicators accompanied by worksheets that refer to aspects of Toulmin's Argument Pattern. The validity by two lecturers of Physics Education obtained content feasibility aspects (90.00%), linguistic aspects (91.25%), presentation aspects (93.75%), and graphical aspects (83.75%). The conclusion is that STEM-EDP based worksheets fall into the very valid category with a validity value of 89.69%. STEM-EDP based worksheets that focus on students' arguments on the topic of climate change are feasible to implement in classroom learning.

Abstract

Fostering critical thinking stands out as a paramount objective in learning, warranting diligent cultivation and refinement. This study uses a Problem Based Learning (PBL)- Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI) learning model for renewable energy materials to enhance students' critical thinking skills. This research utilized a quantitative method with a one-group pretest-posttest design, and the sample comprised 33 students from SMAN 3 Samarinda. Data collection involves assessments with ten questions in the form of essays. Conclusions from the research show that using PBL with SSI learning models on renewable energy can foster students' capacity for critical thinking. After the learning process, 21 out of 33 students were classified as critical, and 12 out of 33 students were classified as very critical, with an average N-Gain value of 0.69, which is included in the medium category, and a paired (2-tailed) T-Test Sig value of 0.000, which indicates there is a significant influence from the use of PBL-SSI. This research provides insights into how teachers might use this approach in the classroom to help students become more adept critical thinkers in the twenty-first century by giving them resources to broaden their critical thinking skills.
