Abstract

Speech is an activity to express the ideas or thoughts. Speech is an oral communication delivered by someone which had a certain purposes. It is whether to persuade, to entertain, or to give information. To express the ideas or thoughts, the language is needed. Speech and language are two fields that play role in human communication. Speech and language cannot be separated to each other. In delivering the speech, the language must be considered. The law issues that occurred by language in speech is possible to use forensic linguistics to investigate the language used in speech. The objective of this research is to review a literature of forensic linguistics. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The data of this research are some books related to forensic linguistics. As a result of analysis, it is showed that forensic linguistics as the interdisciplinary field which examines, defines, and investigates language in court as evidence to polices, judges and lawyers. Some text types of forensic linguistics are emergency call, ransom demands and other threat communications, suicide letters, final death row statements, confessions and denials by public figures. Moreover, several areas of forensic linguistics that can be investigated in law issues are auditory phonetics, acoustic phonetics, interpretation of expressed meaning (semantics), interpretation of inferred meaning (discourse and pragmatics), stylistics and questioned authorship, language of the law, language of the courtroom, interpretation and translation.

Abstract

Hate speech refers to speech that contains hate that is intended to cause certain impacts, either directly or indirectly. As the digital era develops, hate speech is now a very easy thing to happen. Hate speech can be done either individually or in certain groups which certainly causes polemics and problems in the community. One of them is Muhamad Kace (MK), a Youtuber from West Java who is famous for his vulgarity in pouring his content. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the form and meaning of several MK utterances that contain ethnicity, religion, race, and class elements of hate speech. The source of the data in this study was the direct speech uploaded to YouTube on August 20th, 2021. The data was obtained by observing the method with a note-taking technique, then the data was analyzed descriptively qualitatively. The element of ethnicity, religion, race, and class in the hate speech is proven semantically and pragmatically using the theories by Chaer (2013) and Yule (2006). The results of the analysis showed that the utterances of Youtuber MK were full of insulting and degrading words which were clearly seen from the lexical meaning, grammatical meaning, expressive illocutionary speech acts, and directive illocutionary speech acts.

Abstract

This research aimed to discover the realization of textual metafunction and to discover kinds of mood and theme types dominated in speech since the data itself was Donald Trump’s speech “Recognizing Jerusalem as Israel Capital”. This research employed a qualitative research method and content analysis approach. The data was obtained from the trusted website and the data itself was analyzed by using Halliday’s theory by considering the steps of data analysis proposed by Gay et al. As a result of the analysis, it was discovered that: (1) the realization of textual metafunction in Donald Trump’s speech was applied. 84 clauses found in Donald Trump’s speech, and each clause contained Theme and Rheme which carry the message told the listeners; (2) mood (theme in declarative clauses) were mostly dominated particularly unmarked theme, which had 44 clauses while marked theme 38 clauses. Otherwise, (theme in imperative clauses) were the lowest calculation, it was obtained 2 clauses from the total number of clauses. Meanwhile, (theme in interrogative clauses) was not found, yes or no as well as wh-question; theme types (ideational/topical theme was dominant), it was derived 57 clauses, the second was (textual theme), it was derived 25 clauses and the last was (interpersonal theme), it derived 2 clauses. To sum up, based on textual metafunction perspective, the speaker attempts to get the listeners’ attention to focus on the message of what is being said, and giving many statements to tell the listeners his recognition that Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Abstract

Readability is an indicator that used to describe whether a text more or less available to the reader level. This study attempts to find out the appropriateness of the English reading texts in terms of the readability level for the target students. This study is designed by using descriptive qualitative method. The main data used is student’s handbook. The texts were consists of 7 descriptive texts and 1 narrative text and then those data were collected by using documentary technique. In calculating readability level, the researcher employed the Flesch readability formula. The results show that the average readability level of eight reading texts was at level seven grade student by showing the average of the percentage score was 72, 96%. Then, from the eight reading texts were categorized into four levels, namely: there are 2 texts of Easy level, Fairly Easy as many as 3 texts, Standard for 1 texts, and Fairly Difficult for 2 texts. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that those texts were disagree for the target students. Thus, for teachers, English Teacher particularly, should be wise in choosing a textbook as material for teaching students must be match with their capabilities level.

Abstract

In this Community Service, there are two areas of problems faced by small entrepreneurs on Akasia’s street, namely the micro and macro fields. Microeconomics usually analyzes specific economic problems, for example companies or institutions, while macroeconomics usually studies more complex problems, such as public finances. Micro problems faced by small entrepreneurs on Akasia’s street are promotional media such as damaged and unmaintained banners, lack of media or promotional advice such as print or online media, the solution offered is to repair banners and design and create several promotional media such as banners, logos, brochures , business cards and WA Business, Facebook and Instagram. As for the macro problems faced, namely awareness of the importance of advertising languages as promotional media is still very minimal, lack of awareness of the importance of using print and online-based media in promoting the goods/services offered. So, the solution to this problem is to socialize to traders about persuasive advertising languages as a medium.

Abstract

Perkembangan kawasan pemukiman disekitar Jalan Akasia berdampak pada terjadinya kemacetan dan kepadatan jalan. Perilaku parkir sembarangan, penggunaan bahu jalan sebagai parkir, serta pemanfaatan bahu jalan untuk berjualan menyebabkan timbulnya hambatan yang berdampak pada terjadinya kemacetan. Metode penelitian ini adalah kualitatif dengan bentuk studi kasus dan analisis kualitatif-deskriptif. Pemilihan metode ini didasarkan atas data dilokasi yang tidak berupa angka numeris.Metode perolehan data dengan melakukan wawancara dan sosialisasi. Hasil wawancara dan sosialisasi awal yang dilakukan pada masyarakat sekitar Jalan Akasia, menunjukkan bahwa peran masyarakat dalam upaya ikut menjaga ketertiban umum khususnya berlalulintas masih kurang. Masyarakat masih berasumsi bahwa upaya ketertiban umum berlalulintas adalah tugas dari aparat desa dan keamanan. Masyrakat belum memahami tentang penggunaan badan jalan yang dilarang ataupun diperbolehkan. Hasil dari sosialisasi dan FGD adalah masyarakat sekitar Jalan Akasia bersedia mengikuti ketentuan hukum mengenai batas sempadan jalan serta aturan pemasangan reklame. Hal ini merupakan hasil yang positif sebagai bukti adanya peningkatan kesadaran masyarakat dalam ikut menjaga ketertiban umum dan mematuhi peraturan yang berlaku. Sosialisasi yang dilakukan dengan para pemilik toko/warung menghasilkan kesepakatan bahwa dalam proses berjualan agar parkir pengunjung ditata sehingga tidak menimbulkan hambatan jalan yang dapat berdampak pada timbulnya kemacetan.

Abstract

There are four common language skills that must be learned and studied continuously. One of the language skills that must be mastered by students is listening. By having based on ability, students will have the ability to express their thoughts and feelings correctly in the context of the situation needed and capture information with the speaker's intent, then respond to the information itself. A child learns a language through listening first. The process of listening, understanding meaning, imitating, and practicing language sound is repeated until the child speaks fluently. The same thing happens to adults when they learn a foreign language. This article describes the lack of listening in English for junior high school students and the appropriateness of teaching English to increase students' interest in developing listening skills. This may be because students' interest in listening skills is not good and the Extensive Listening approach is applied to improve listening skills, which is applied by the teacher in the learning process so that students do not practice listening skills in English. Based on this situation, the aim of this activity is to help build students' interest in improving English listening skills and through an extensive listening and application approach to teaching listening skills to junior high school students. In the process of listening there are five components, namely paying attention, understanding, remembering, and providing feedback or feedback. The object of this PKM activity is SMP PGRI 3 Denpasar, especially for class VIII students. The results of the research in this activity indicate that students are able to master the five components that have been applied in the teaching process of the Extensive Listening approach that is applied in improving students' listening skills and are able to pay attention, and understand, remember, and respond. Thus, in this case, the implementation is carried out with this focus so that learning outcomes can be optimal.

Abstract

Pada Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat kali ini terdapat dua bidang permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh pengusaha kecil di Jalan Akasia, yaitu bidang mikro dan makro. Ekonomi Mikro biasanya menganalisis masalah ekonomi yang spesifik, contohnya perusahaan atau instansi, sedangkan ekonomi makro biasanya mempelajari masalah-masalah yang lebih rumit, seperti keuangan negara. Permasalahan Mikro yang dihadapi pengusaha kecil di Jalan Akasia yaitu media promosi seperti spanduk rusak dan tidak terawat, kurangnya media atau saran promosi seperti media cetak ataupun online maka solusi yang ditawarkan adalah melakukan perbaikan spanduk serta mendesain serta membuat beberapa media promosi seperti spanduk, logo, brosur, kartu nama maupun WA Bussiness, Facebook dan Instagram. Adapun masalah makro yang dihadapi yaitu kesadaran akan pentingnya bahasa-bahasa iklan sebagai media promosi masih sangat minim, kurangnya kesadaran akan pentingnya menggunakan media cetak maupun berbasis online dalam mempromosikan barang/jasa yang ditawarkan. Maka, solusi dari permasalahan ini yaitu melakukan sosialisasi kepada pedagang mengenai bahasa-bahasa iklan yang bersifat persuasif sebagai medianya.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic having been spreading throughout the world has resulted in the emergence of various literary works with the aim of educating the wider community on how to anticipate it. One form of literary work helping educate and is well responded to by the community, especially school-aged children, is comics. Comics are very effective in attracting people to listen and read since the information is conveyed in attractive pictures and in easily digestible language. The comics written are translated into various languages ​​so that people in the regions and speakers of other languages ​​can receive the messages conveyed through the comics in question. Identifying the advantages of comics in educating the prevention of Covid-19 around the world, this research focuses on examining the process of translating a comic by Weiman Kou into Balinese. Translation is an effective way to develop learning, not only in college but also in the wider community environment. This study examines the procedure for translating comics by graduate students of linguistics. The results showed that the comic was translated by literal, calque, and borrowing procedures. In order to achieve quality translation results, it is suggested that translating does not only apply three types of procedures but also many other types of procedures, including communicative and idiomatic procedures. By applying these procedures, the message conveyed is perceived the same to both the source language reader and the target language reader.

Abstract

This study analyzed the knowledge level of housewives about serving Ayam Betutu/Chicken Betutu as a Balinese specialty. The population in this study was 103 housewives who lived in Banjar Buaji Anyar, Sumerta Kelod Village. The data were collected using direct interviews and standardized questionnaires. The data processing was performed using the SPSS program, while a descriptive statistic was used to analyze the data. Based on the results of data analysis, the study showed that the knowledge level of housewives about serving Chicken Betutu was still very good. Definitely, this is a very good thing for the preservation of Chicken Betutu as special food, and especially Chicken Betutu has become a culinary icon from Bali. The good knowledge level of housewives about serving Chicken Betutu can be a trusted source for the younger generation if they want to know about Chicken Betutu, starting from the basic ingredients, the manufacturing process, tools, to the taste of the Chicken Betutu.
