Abstract

Saputra et al, 2019. Effect of Different Types of Feed on Albumin Content and Survival of Snakehead Fish (Channa striata). pp. 394-401. Albumin plays an important role in maintaining plasma osmotic pressure and helps host recovery process due to a disease caused by a lack of blood protein. The availability of blood protein in sufficient quantities can help maintain fish health performance. Healthy fish produce high survival values. This study was conducted to determine the effect of different types of feed given to survival and albumin levels of snakehead fish. The treatment given in the form of P1 snakehead fish was given commercial pellets with 32% protein, P2 snakehead fish was given commercial pellets with 32% protein plus 3.5% black cumin and P3 snakehead fish was fed in the form of fresh water and sea water trash paste in comparison 1: 1. Fish are kept in hapa in concrete ponds for 30 days. Feeding is carried out three times a day at satiation. Fish maintenance was carried out at the Laboratorium Kolam Percobaan Faculty of Agriculture while measuring albumin levels was carried out at the Laboratorium Bioproses Faculty of Engineering, Srwijaya University. The study lasted from May to July 2018. The results of measurements of albumin levels of snakehead fish were found to produce P3 treatment with the highest average addition of albumin levels of 0.025 mg / ml, while the average addition of the lowest albumin levels was found in fish fed P1 treatment (0.015 mg / ml). The snakehead fish treated with P2 had an average addition of albumin of 0.019 mg / ml. The highest survival rate was found in fish in P3 which was 80%. The snakehead fish in treatment P1 and P2 have average survival values of 72.5% and 73.75%, respectively. The results showed that differences in feed did not significantly affect albumin levels and has significantly affect fish survival rate.

Abstract

The demand for consumption size catfish continues to increase from year to year. This increase in demand is positively correlated with an increase in catfish production. This illustrates that catfish farming has promising prospects if done properly. One of the determinants of the success of catfish production through aquaculture activities is the application of technology to increase fish survival and accelerate the growth of cultured fish. This service is carried out to increase the productivity of catfish farming activities in Pulau Semambu Village by increasing the survival and growth of catfish by adding prebiotic sweet potato extract to feed. This activity was carried out in August-October 2019 at the Fish Under Crew People's Hatchery Unit (UPR) on Semambu Island, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra Province. The method of service activities carried out is in the form of technology transfer, which consists of several stages, namely providing counselling, training/demonstrations in the form of direct demonstrations and conducting mentoring activities in the form of guidance for six months or twice a catfish production cycle. Direct assistance can be used as technical guidelines for good and correct cultivation by cultivating farmers to increase their skills and abilities, which in turn can increase catfish farming production in Pulau Semambu Village. The service has been carried out, and it is seen that the community gives a positive response and enthusiastically follows the delivery of material and demonstrations given by the service team, increasing the knowledge and skills of catfish farmers at UPR Fish Under Crew in making sweet potato prebiotics and providing prebiotic feed on catfish feed.

Abstract

Abstract

The Mahseer (Tor soro), an omnivore with herbivorous tendencies, requires a balanced combination of plant and animal-based nutrients. Lemna perpusilla shows high potential as a cost-effective, plant-based feed ingredient. This study aimed to determine the optimum combination of L. perpusilla meal and commercial feed to maximize the growth performance of T. soro. A completely randomized design (CRD) was employed with five treatments and three replications: P0 (100% L. perpusilla), P1 (75% L. perpusilla + 25% commercial feed), P2 (50% L. perpusilla + 50% commercial feed), P3 (25% L. perpusilla + 75% commercial feed), and P4 (100% commercial feed). The results revealed that P3 was the optimal formulation, showing the highest growth rates, protein efficiency ratio, and feed conversion ratio as follows: absolute weight growth of 0.66 ± 0.14 g, absolute length growth of 0.73 ± 0.06 cm, a protein efficiency ratio (PER) of 2.71 ± 0.65, a feed conversion ratio (FCR) of 1.24 ± 0.28, and a 100% survival rate. Water quality parameters remained within the tolerable range for T. soro culture. In conclusion, incorporating 25% L. perpusilla meal into commercial feed significantly supports growth performance, providing a clear and effective strategy for sustainable T. soro culture.
