Abstract

Blacksmith is a people's business that has been going on for a long time in Indonesia. Based on the experience that has been obtained from time to time and hereditary, the blacksmith industry has been done by the community to meet the needs of agricultural and household utensils. However, observe to this people's business, now it decreases with various causal factors, such as the ease of imported goods on the market with lower prices. Many creative efforts need to be carried out so that these people's businesses remain and increasingly develop, among others by improving the quality of the process of a blacksmith so that their products are quite competitive. This article describes the results of the research in the laboratory regarding the physical processes of heating and quenching under blacksmith, which the results have been applied to community service activities at the Suger Kidul villages in Jember Regency. The study aimed to find the most appropriate procedure for steel tool manufacturing processes so that the blacksmith products have high quality as high hardness. The physical process for blacksmith process is heating and quenching. This study analyzes the proper heat (temperature), proper processing time, and proper media for heating and quenching to produce good harness quality of the product.

Abstract

Spray characteristics have an important role in improving the quality of combustion in compression engines. This study analyzes the effect of ambient temperature on spray characteristics including spray tip penetration, spray angle and velocity of spray. The research method uses an experimental method with ambient temperature variations of 60oC, 80oC, 100oC controlled using a thermocouple and an ambient pressure of 0.3 MPa. the composition of the fuel uses diesel (diesel 100%), B30 (30% biodiesel), B100 (100% biodiesel). Image recording using camera speed 480 fms. Based on the experimental results, the ambient temperature increases the spray angle and B100 at all ambient temperatures has a spray tip penetration, velocity of spray is lower.

Abstract

Metal Matrix Composites (MMC) merupakan jenis komposit diantara banyaknya jenis komposit. Komposit logam sendiri merupakan kombinasi dari dua material atau lebih yang dimana logam sebagai matrik dan keramik sebagai penguatnya. Kombinasi tersebut bertujuan untuk mendapatkan material baru yang mempunyai sifat mekanis yang lebih baik daripada bahan dasarnya.Pada penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh Mg dan penambahan fraksi volume SiC terhadap sifat mekanik komposit Al6061-SiC menggunakan metode stir casting. Partikel SiC digunakan sebagai penguat dikarenakan sifatnya yang mampu menaikkan sifat mekanik dari komposit itu sendiri, sedangkan serbuk Magnesium (Mg) ditambahkan sebagai wetting agent agar mampu membasahi daripada matrix serta memperkecil batas butir pada komposit Al6061/SiC. Pada pengujian kekerasan yang dilakukan didapatkan hasil terbaik pada penambahan 8% SiC yaitu senilai 62,5 HRB. Pengujian tarik menunjukkan nilai kekuatan tarik tertinggi pada spesimen penambahan 8% SiC senilai 151,3 MPa.

Abstract

Pesawat amfibi adalah pesawat yang dapat lepas landas dan mendarat di air. Persyaratan unik pesawat amfibi adalah kebutuhannya untuk lepas landas dan mendarat di air yang dilengkapi dengan pontoon. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui korelasi dari variasi kombinasi geometri deadrise angle, step height, dan constant cross-section length dengan nilai koefisien drag (CD), koefisien lift (CL), dan koefisien momen (CM). Metodologi penelitian dilakukan dengan simulasi Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa deadrise angle mempengaruhi koefisien drag (CD), koefisien lift (CL), dan koefisien momen (CM) dengan masing-masing nilai 0,0055; 0,0044; -0.0036, sedangkan step height tidak berdampak signifikan terhdap koefisien drag (CD) dan koefisien lift (CL) serta tidak berpengaruh terhadap koefisien momen (CM). constant cross-section length tidak berdampak signifikan terhadap koefisien drag (CD) dan koefisien lift (CL) tetapi peningkatan constant cross-section length dapat meningkatkan koefisien momen (CM) dengan nilai -0.0039 koefisien momen (CM).

Abstract

An electric car is a vehicle that is driven by an electric motor, the electric motor obtains power from electricity stored in the battery. Chassis is an important component in electric cars. Chassis is part of an electric car that functions as a support system in an electric car. In the chassis there is a maximum and minimum stress called the principal stress. This principal stress becomes a reference to determine the safety of the chassis. So it is necessary to know the principal stress on the chassis. The testing process uses two drivers, each of which weighs 45 kg and 56 kg. The tests were carried out at three different points on the electric car chassis. From the results of the principal stress test, σ1 = 3.3282 MPa and σ2 = 1.5429 MPa for the 45 kg driver and σ1 = 3.8233 MPa and σ2 = 2.1123 MPa for the 56 kg driver. The principal stress on the chassis is still in a safe condition because it does not exceed the yield stress of the chassis material.

Abstract

Sand blasting merupakan suatu proses yang digunakan untuk merubah karakteristik suatu permukaan. Kekasaran permukaan perlu diperhatikan untuk meningkatkan daya rekat lapisan cat terhadap permukaan material. Proses ini dilakukan denan cara menyemprotkan pasir silika ke suatu permukaan baja dengan kecepatan yang relatif tinggi . Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah dapat mengetahui pengaruh tekanan, waktu dan sudut terhadap kekasaran permukaan baja SS400 serta untuk mendapatkan parameter yang sesuai pada proses sand blasting. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain eksperimen orthogonal array pada metode taguchi. Parameter yang divariasikan yaitu tekanan udara sebesar 3, 4 dan 5 bar dengan waktu penyemprotan 4, 8, dan 12 detik juga sudut penyemprotan sebesar 30°,60° dan 90°. Dari hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa variasi tekanan memiliki pengaruh lebih besar dibandingkan waktu dan sudut. Sedangkan kombinasi parameter yang optimal yaitu tekanan 3 bar, waktu 8 detik dan sudut 60° dengan nilai kekasaran permukaan 54,82 μm dan tingkat kebersihan SA 2,5.

Abstract

Kendaraan merupakan alat transportasi yang berfungsi sebagai sarana yang digunakan untuk berpindah lokasi. Bagian penting dari suatu konstruksi kendaraan adalah chassis. Chassis memiliki fungsi sebagai penopang komponen pada suatu kendaraan. Salah satu hal yang dapat diteliti dari chassis yaitu gaya yang terjadi pada chassis. Guna mengetahui gaya yang terjadi pada chassis, dilakukan penelitian mengenai gaya yang terjadi pada chassis akibat pembebanan statik yang terjadi. Penelitian yang dilakukan menggunakan enam strain gauge yang dipasang pada tiga titik, pada masing-masing titik dipasang pada sumbu x dan sumbu y guna mencari gaya yang terjadi pada chassis. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian maka dapat diperoleh nilai gaya terbesar terjadi pada titik dua yaitu masing-masing 289,54 N pada sumbu x dan 178,09 N pada sumbu y dengan beban driver 45 kg dan 323,17 N pada sumbu x dan 246,64 N pada sumbu y dengan beban driver 56 kg.

Abstract

Nanoparticles are particles that have a size of nm and a size range of 1-100 nano. These particles are formed by the DC Thermal Plasma method. This study utilizes a 70 ampere DC Plasma cutting machine as a plasma flame. The combustion process is carried out in a reactor tube, and the material processed is Aluminum powder (Al) with a purity of 92.5%. The input mass of Aluminum powder is injected at 5gram. Burning process (15 seconds). The particles attached to the reactor wall are sucked in with the help of a vacuum pump then collected on the filter tube. The material is measured by mass using a digital scale. Analysis of the data used is using the Taguci L27 method. The parameters used in this study are injection angle with 3 variations (45 °, 60 °, 90 °) and fire length with 3 variations (2.31 cm; 3.87 cm; 4.28 cm). The contribution of machining parameters in the manufacture of alumina nanoparticles is significant, namely the injection angle parameter has a contribution of 37% and a fire length parameter of 4.2%. The results of the study are generally influenced by the injection angle. The optimum injection angle is 45 ° with an average of 3.56 grams and the least productivity is the injection angle parameter 90 ° which is equal to 2.17 grams The conclusion of the study is that the greater the material injection bend angle the less productivity of DC Thermal Plasma devices as well vice versa.

Abstract

The need for energy every year both in the domestic and global increases. Indonesia's energy needs are predicted to increase by 5% each year. Indonesia has renewable energy potential from solar, hydropower, wind, and geothermal sources. The potential of new renewable energy amounted to 442 GW. Of the 442 GW, the greatest potential is owned by 207 GW of solar energy. The high potential of solar energy in Indonesia is because Indonesia is located in the tropics which experiences sunshine time of approximately 6-8 hours per day and the sun continues to shine throughout the year. However, the length of irradiation also has an impact on increasing the temperature of solar panels. The higher the temperature of the solar panel, the output power will decrease and the life of the solar panel is reduced. The use of passive cooling from reference has a lower efficiency increase than active cooling. However, its installation requires lower costs, minimal maintenance, and no additional power requirements. This research will use 20WP monocrystalline solar panels with three cooling variations, namely: 1) with the addition of a thin aluminum plate and Vortex generator 2) By giving a tub of water under the panel 3) the Addition of aluminum fin. The three variations are compared with solar panels without cooling. The results on the first day showed a decrease in temperature of 2.30C with aluminum fin and an increase in power of 6.97% when using a water container. On the second day, a temperature decrease of 2.90C and a power increase of 5.81% when using aluminum fin coolers were recorded.
