Abstract

Rolling resistance in bearings is rolling resistance in bearings that move rolling without sliding. The amount of rolling resistance force occurs depending on the magnitude of the coefficient of friction between the ball bearing and the outer and inner surfaces of the bearing. This research is in the form of testing the characteristics of rolling resistance values by experimental methods when given variations in rotational speed parameters and radial load variations. The results of research on single row deep groove ball bearing type 6000 with 207 Newton loading at 300 rpm rotation showed a rolling resistance value of 1.0823 Newton.

Abstract

The engine movement mechanism is a system composed of machine elements that contact or rub against each other between these surfaces. Surfaces that rub against each other will cause a friction force that causes wear on the surface, so it requires energy to fight the friction force. Lubricants are needed to reduce friction and reduce wear rates, where lubricants are generally made of mineral materials. Lubricants made from synthetic materials are non-renewable and cause environmental problems. The development of biolubricants as lubricating materials based on animal fats or vegetable oils is continuously being carried out. This study aims to observe the potential of biolubricants based on reviews from various previous research journals. The use of additives in biolubricants is also studied whether the addition of these additives can improve the characteristics of biolubricants. This study shows that the addition of certain additives to biolubricants can improve the characteristics of biolubricants.

Abstract

Aileron is a control surface that functions as a regulator of roll motion. The movements of the ailerons are opposite to the left and right sides. Previous studies have shown that graphs of hinge moment coefficient (Chm) values increases with increasing angle of attack. This study is to determine the aerodynamic characteristics of aileron by combining the surface area of the vane into the aileron by varying the aileron’s deflection. The calculation is performed using a numerical method in two dimensions (2D) commercial CFD simulation software. The results of the study concluded that the hinge moment coefficient for modified airfoil at δA = -20°, 0°, and 20° was -0.071, 0.078, and 0.177, respectively. These values are smaller when compared to Chm value in basic aileron that was -0.094, 0.095, and 0.201, respectively.

Abstract

The car chassis as a skeleton supports all loads and is the most important component. Car chassis requirements must be rigid, twisting resistant, vibration resistant and resistant to fatigue. This study aims to find the cause of the failure of the Titen Proto-XX car chassis connection. The research methodology was conducted by testing the composition of materials and structural analysis using Ansys Workbench Release 15.0 software. The conclusion of the research is that the skeletal structure material uses Aluminum AA series 1XXX with Al content greater than 99.5%, the welding ability is low, causing a failure in the welded joint. The rivet connection failure is caused by the stress concentration in the rivet holes in the plates so that the connection crack propagation occurs.

Abstract

Wire-cut EDM is a machining process used to shape precision machine components. The basic principle of wire-cut EDM is the erosion of the workpiece through spark discharges in a dielectric fluid. The spark discharge is caused by a positive electrode approaching the negatively charged workpiece, creating a short circuit that generates heat energy. Previous research was conducted with factors such as current, wire speed, on-time, and variable frequency, resulting in the best surface roughness value of 6 µm. This study aims to determine the effect of parameters such as current, voltage, and wire speed on the response of surface roughness, using the Taguchi method. The workpiece used was SKD 61 steel with 600mm x 50mm x 5mm dimensions. Cutting was done at currents of 4, 6, and 9 (Amperes), voltages of 4, 5, and 6 (Volts), and wire speeds of 8, 10, and 12 (m/m). The results of this study showed the best surface roughness value of 2.540 µm with an S/N ratio of -8.09553 at a current of 4A, voltage of 4V, and wire speed of 8m/m. After optimization, a higher S/N ratio of -8.018 was achieved. Data analysis with ANOVA showed that the effect of factors on the response yielded an F-value greater than the F-table value for all factors, indicating that all factors had a significant impact. The percentage contribution of all factors was as follows: Current at 82.46%, Voltage at 3.36%, and Wire speed at 2.53%. Keywords: wire-cut EDM, taguchi method, surface roughness.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of eggshell catalyst (CaO) on the combustion characteristics of nyamplung oil biodiesel droplets (Calophyllum inophyllum L) on flame visualization, ignition delay, and temperature. At present, Indonesia still uses fossil fuels, namely diesel. However, over time there are alternative fuels using palm oil raw materials. However, palm oil is also used as a source of food so that it will have an impact on the scarcity of palm oil. In this study, we looked for alternative energy using nyamplung seeds (Calophyllum inophyllum L.) with catalyst weight variations of 1%, 3% and 5%. The tested droplet volume of 1 ml was placed in a type K thermocouple. The results of this study showed that the percentage of catalyst weight increased temperature and shortened ignition delay. The highest temperature and lowest ignition delay were found at a variation of 5% with the highest temperature of 679.5 °C and ignition delay of 3000 ms.

Abstract

The performance of modern racing motorcycles is greatly influenced by their aerodynamics. Slipstreaming occurs during a race when a rider closely follows another, especially on a straight track. The effect can reduce aerodynamic drag and increase the overall speed of the rider behind. This study investigates the aerodynamic effects of slipstreaming on a racing motorcycle using computational fluid dynamics. This study also considers its effect on both drag force and downforce, which affects motorcycle stability. A 3D CAD model of a racing motorcycle and a rider in a crouching position was used as the object of research. CFD simulations were carried out using the RANS Steady State solver with the k-ω-SST turbulence model. The simulations evaluated the effect of varying distances between motorcycles on slipstream performance, as well as varying motorcycle speeds. The results show the effect on drag force and downforce for the trailing motorcycle. This is due to the shielding effect of the motorcycle in front, which creates a low-pressure zone behind it. Additionally, the turbulence behind the racing motorcycle also affects its downforce. Optimizing the distance between motorcycles in the slipstream allows riders to improve overtaking performance. It also reduces adverse effects on motorcycle stability caused by the slipstream's influence on downforce. Furthermore, it can be used to develop aerodynamic modifications to racing motorcycles that can utilize the slipstream more effectively.
