Abstract

This article proposes a new coulometric approach to calculate the state of charge of a lead acid battery in electric vehicles. The main existing state of charge algorithms have two major defects: a state of charge definition not adapted to electric vehicle ap-plications and the nonoptimal use of static performance of the accumulator to estimate its state under dynamic stresses. In order to improve these two weaknesses, we propose a new coulometric algorithm linked to the performance of the electric vehicle and where the ampere hours virtually discharged are obtained by applying statistical equivalence coefficients to the real current profile. The evaluation of this new algorithm on real dis-charges reveals a significant improvement with less than 5% errors in all cases studied.

Abstract

The issue of the depletion of oil reserves in the world, and the problem of air pollution produced by motor vehicles, motivate many researchers to seek alternative energy sources to propel the vehicle. One promising way is to replace combustion motor with an electric motor, which is known as an electric car. First stage of this research is to model the flow of power in the electric car energy system to obtain its characteristics. Power flow efficiency in electric cars is very important because this type of car is highly dependent on the limited electrical energy supplied by a battery. Therefore it should be managed properly. This study is to look into the power flow calculation so that the amount of electrical energy is in accordance with the needs of electric cars. A model using Simulink software is to get the best power flow response to the electric car energy system.

Abstract

An electricity based on artificial intelligence has been developed for producing a cheap, simple, and reliable electricity method. The comparison of reability value and availability value of old method that applied now in Buduran Substation with a new expert system method has been tested. The evaluation of change of reability value and availability value of a new expert system method showed a value <10%. It is concluded that this method is acceptable. The decreasing of reability value and availability value of new method can be used for the maintening of equipment.
