Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of a coaching strategy in enhancing teacher performance at Madrasah Aliyah in Parepare. This type of research is quantitative descriptive research. The participants were all English teachers at Madrasah Aliyah in Parepare. The instrument in this study is a questionnaire, namely guide question coaching for teachers. The statistical procedures used include descriptive statistics for various items in the questionnaire calculated using SPSS (Statistical Product Services and Solutions). The research results found that analysis revealed that the predominant challenges faced by teachers included social competency issues (38%), professional competencies (28%), pedagogical challenges, and personal traits affecting student engagement (8%). The research found that the use of coaching strategy empowering the teacher’s performance at Madrasah by several indicator: 1) The question of coaching guide really explores the teachers’ competencies in knowing their self-strength (teachers); 2) The coaching guide question explore the teachers thinking competencies to realize and recognizing the teacher’s problem and redesigning step by step real action plan to move to the realization act; and 3) The coaching strategy bring the teachers into braveness to confidence to measure their progression in to the real number in percentage.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the verbal quiz method in improving the vocabulary ability of grade VIII students at SMPN 2 Patampanua. This study used a pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test. The population of this study was class VIII students at SMPN 2 Patampanua, and the sample selected was class VIII.2 consisting of 26 students. The research indicated a significant increase in students’ vocabulary ability after the treatment. The average score of students on the pre-test was 45.23, with a standard deviation of 9.64, while the average score on the post-test increased to 68.76, with a standard deviation of 15.63. The t-test value reached 6.34, higher than the t-table value of 1.708 at a significance level of 0.05 with 25 degrees of freedom. Based on the assessment rubric during the treatment, improvements were seen in several aspects, including appropriate vocabulary, speaking fluency, context understanding, and pronunciation. These results show that the increase in the average score from 37.5 in the second meeting to 60.3 in the fifth meeting shows significant improvement. Based on these findings, the writer concluded that students' vocabulary ability improved in several aspects, such as appropriate use of vocabulary, fluency, context understanding, and pronunciation, after being given the application of the verbal quiz method, which can effectively improve the vocabulary ability of grade VIII students at SMPN 2 Patampanua.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penyebab dan sebagai pilihan rasional masyarakat Desa Waru-Waru dalam memilih mata pencaharian dari petani menjadi nelayan. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori James C. Scott tentang moral ekonomi petani dengan metode etnografi James Spradley. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan masyarakat mengambil sikap disebabkan faktor ekonomi yang belum mencukupi. Apalagi jika dari segi mata pencaharian petani, tanaman yang mereka tanami merupakan jenis tanaman jangka panjang dan sebagian dari mereka belum memiliki lahan untuk berkebun. Hal ini membuat masyarakat lebih memilih nelayan sebagai pekerjaan utama. Perubahan musim juga menjadi bagian faktor penghambat dari berkurangnya penghasilan mereka. Masyarakat tetap melakukan aktivitas melaut seperti menangkap ubur-ubur, memancing menggunakan rawe. Aktivitas masyarakat ketika tidak melaut seperti membersihkan alat tangkapan, berkebun, dan sebagian lainnya memilih mencari pekerjaan lain, bahkan ada yang sekedar berkumpul bersama keluarga dan juga menonjolkan peranan istri membantu suami mencari nafkah, misalnya dengan memanfaatkan pasang surut air laut untuk mencari teripang dan kerang-kerangan, membuat kue dan nasi kuning. Hal tersebut bukan dari paksaan suami. Karena desakan tetapi dari pribadi sang istri sendiri untuk membantu menambah perkenomian keluarganya.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to identity the validity, realibility and difficulty level of summative test made by EFL teacher at eight grade of SMPN 2 Watang Pulu Sidenreng Rappang. The results of this study were beneficial for the teacher and students because they gained proper information about quality of summative test created by EFL Teacher. The samples of this study were 20 students and 1 data of summative test conducted from the teacher. The researcher conducted the research by quantitative method. The data collection technique was taken document of summative English test. The data was analyzed by using validity, reliability and difficulty level analysis. The result of validity was have 0,344 with significance level of 5%. Items of English summative test n as valid 14 items with percentage (70%), invalid items are 6 items with percentage (30%). The reliability is category reliabel showed index 0,82higher than 0,70. Level of difficulty, the total items as easy category there are 2 items (10%), the total of medium category are 12 items test with percentage (60%), and difficult category have 6 items with percentage (30%). From the result above, the level of difficulty of English summative test items have a good category because the medium category more than 50%.

Abstract

Differences in the characteristics of students cause teachers to find it difficult to choose learning methods so that teachers often use conventional learning methods. This results in a lack of interaction between students, and has an impact on the low social skills and cognitive learning outcomes of students. The purpose of this study was to describe the effect of the talking stick learning model combined with the snowball drilling learning method on the social skills of class X SMA Negeri 1 Kerambitan students and to determine the effect of the talking stick learning model combined with the snowball drilling learning method on the cognitive learning outcomes of class X SMA Negeri 1 students. kinship. This type of research is a quasi-experimental research, the design in this study using a pretest-posttest control group design, with a sampling technique using purposive sampling. The sample of this research is class X A as the experimental class and class X B as the control class. The instruments used in this study were the RPP implementation observation sheet, social skills observation sheet, and cognitive learning outcomes test. The data analysis technique used is descriptive quantitative and t-test. After analyzing the students' social skills data, the average percentage was 16.97 with a good category, while the post-test scores for the control class were 57.1 and the experimental class was 67.4. After testing the hypothesis, the price is obtained (tcount > ttable) or (3.102 > 1.671), so that the hypothesis is accepted, so it can be concluded that there is an effect of the talking stick learning model combined with the snowball drilling learning method on the cognitive learning outcomes of grade X students of SMA Negeri 1 Kerambitan in the academic year 2017/2018, and students' social skills are classified as good.

Abstract

Pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat ini bertujuan menganalisis tingkat partisipasi masyarakat dalam pelaksanaan program sosial di Desa Sibonu, Kabupaten Sigi. Program yang dikaji meliputi pengecatan taman pengajian anak, penanaman pohon, kerja bakti, senam pagi bersama, dan majelis taklim. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif melalui observasi dan wawancara dengan warga, tokoh masyarakat, serta perangkat desa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa partisipasi masyarakat tergolong rendah, terutama pada kegiatan penanaman pohon dan kerja bakti, sedangkan kegiatan bernuansa keagamaan seperti majelis taklim mendapat respons lebih baik. Faktor penghambat utama adalah kurangnya komunikasi dan sosialisasi, rendahnya kesadaran manfaat kegiatan, serta keterbatasan waktu warga. Diperlukan strategi komunikasi yang lebih efektif dan pelibatan tokoh masyarakat dalam setiap tahapan kegiatan agar partisipasi warga dapat meningkat. Penelitian ini diharapkan menjadi bahan evaluasi bagi program pengabdian masyarakat selanjutnya di Desa Sibonu.

Abstract

This research addresses the persistent challenge of tense instruction in Indonesian madrasah tsanawiyah, where grammar learning is often perceived as rule-heavy and detached from meaningful practice. The study aims to examine the extent to which Busuu-assisted learning can enhance eighth-grade students’ English tense mastery and to outline a feasible classroom integration model within a realistic school timetable. A pre-experimental one-group pre-test–post-test design was employed with qualitative approach. The participants were 23 eighth-grade students at MTs DDI Tuppu Pinrang selected from an intact class; however, complete matched pre- and post-test scores were available for 22 students and were used for analysis. Students completed a 30-item multiple-choice grammar test on simple present, simple past, and simple future tenses before and after six weekly Busuu-assisted treatments (two class periods per meeting). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and a paired comparison, applying the Wilcoxon signed-rank test due to non-normal gain scores. The results showed a substantial increase in students’ tense mastery from pre-test (M = 20.18) to post-test (M = 28.23), with a significant pre–post difference (p < .001) and a very large effect (r ≈ 0.88). The findings suggest that structured mobile-assisted practice through Busuu, combined with teacher guidance and error-focused review, can serve as a practical strategy for revitalizing grammar pedagogy in Islamic junior high school contexts.

Abstract

This study explores how multicultural values and tolerance are discursively constructed through genre in an Indonesian EFL textbook. It focuses on English for Nusantara Student’s Book for SMP/MTs Grade VIII, a nationally distributed textbook used in junior secondary education, including Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri (MTsN). Employing qualitative content analysis, the study examines 49 verbal and visual text units across dialogue, narrative, recount, report, and procedure genres through the lens of Systemic Functional Linguistics genre theory and multicultural education. The findings reveal that multicultural values and tolerance are not uniformly presented across the textbook; rather, they are staged differently through genre. Dialogue, narrative, and recount tend to humanize difference through empathy, shared experience, and moral evaluation, while report and procedure tend to normalize diversity through knowledge, social awareness, and practical action. The study contributes to EFL textbook research by demonstrating that values are not only thematically represented but also genre-shaped in ways that influence how learners are invited to understand and practice tolerance. The findings have implications for the design of English teaching materials in diverse educational settings.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mencoba untuk melihat efektifitas implementasi metode multisensori untuk menangani kesulitan membaca permulaan peserta didik di TK Telkom Kota Timur, Gorontalo.Metode multisensori membutuhkan berbagai indera seperti perabaan, pendengaran, penglihatan, dan gerakan tubuh untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan minat baca anak.Data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi, dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif serta metode studi kasus.Temuan menunjukkan jika metode multisensori efektif dalam membantu anak-anak mengatasi kesulitan membaca, terutama dalam pengenalan huruf dan penyusunan kata sederhana.Dukungan dari sekolah dan kreativitas guru sangat penting dalam keberhasilan implementasi metode ini. Abstract

Achieving B2-level writing proficiency based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) remains a challenge for many EFL university students. Beyond linguistic limitations, writing anxiety encompassing somatic, cognitive, and avoidance dimensions constitutes a critical affective barrier influencing students' writing performance. This study examined the correlation between students' writing anxiety and their B2-level writing proficiency in an EFL context at a State Islamic Institute in Indonesia. A quantitative correlational design was employed, involving 42 fourth-semester students of the English Education Program. Writing anxiety was measured using the Second Language Writing Anxiety Inventory (SLWAI), while writing proficiency was assessed through an IELTS Writing Task 2 test aligned with CEFR B2 descriptors. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation. The findings revealed that 85.7% of students experienced moderate anxiety, while 14.3% experienced high anxiety, with no students in the low-anxiety category. Regarding proficiency, 54.8% were at the B1 level and 45.2% reached B2. A statistically significant moderate negative correlation was found (r = −0.452, p = 0.003 < 0.05), confirming that higher writing anxiety is associated with lower B2 writing performance. The study interprets these findings through the lens of Krashen’s (1982) Affective Filter Hypothesis, Bandura’s (1997) Self-Efficacy Theory, and Sweller’s (1988) Cognitive Load Theory. Pedagogical implications encompass the adoption of low-anxiety classroom environments, process-based writing instruction, and structured feedback strategies to support CEFR-aligned writing development.
