Abstract

Ontological metaphor is used to conceptualize something abstract into something real. Ontological metaphors are found in sentences on hotel websites used as a form of promotion. This study has two objectives: 1) to find out the types of ontological Japanese metaphors on Japanese-language hotel websites in Bali, and 2) to explain the conceptual meaning of ontological metaphors on Japanese-language hotel websites in Bali. This study is qualitative research and takes a phenomenological approach. The research phase begins by observing the sentences on four hotel websites in South Bali. Furthermore, the data was collected using the observation method in conjunction with reading and note-taking techniques. The theory of conceptual metaphor developed by Lakoff and Johnson is used to analyze ontological metaphors. The data were analyzed using the identity method, namely explaining the conceptual meaning contained in the ontological metaphor. Ontological metaphors on hotel websites emphasize service and luxury. Services and luxuries as something abstract are visualized as things that can be felt and enjoyed by humans, therefore creating a metaphorical expression in the form of "enjoy the luxury" (zeitaku o sashimi kudasai). The results of the study show that there are four conceptualizations of ontological metaphors on Japanese-language hotel websites in Bali, namely: 1) stress or fatigue is something that can be eliminated; 2) service is something that can be felt; 3) luxury is something that can be enjoyed; and 4) memories are something luxurious. Children's language politeness and the role of parents in supervising and educating children on this platform are very important.

Abstract

Quality basic education is inextricably linked to teacher competence. Competence is a person's ability or capability to perform a task based on his abilities. However, following the Covid-19 pandemic, many schools, including instructors, are struggling to adapt to the New Normal Era. One of these is elementary School No. 11 Dauh Puri, one of Denpasar's public elementary schools. Most teachers are elderly, and professional skill is required to design instructional media in a creative manner. One of the issues of Elementary School 11 Dauh Puri is teacher competence. Teachers lack the necessary expertise in science and technology to create engaging learning materials, particularly for foreign languages, that spark student interest. One of the methods proposed for improving teacher abilities is to provide training in the use of Canva as learning materials as well as the usage of Quizziz for assessment or evaluation of student learning. Teachers appreciate community service, which includes the use of Canva and Quizziz to create teaching materials. Despite the fact that she had official training, the teacher feels helped.

Abstract

Philosophy is a system of thought or rather a way of thinking that can be challenged. Philosophy is also a process, a way of searching for truth indefinitely. The philosophy of science, on the other hand, is a philosophical study that seeks to answer questions about the nature of science in terms of ontology, epistemology, and axiology. More than two decades ago, the world was stunned by a new technology known as the internet. As the internet matures into a technology that connects the world, the number of internet-related languages grows. Similarly, in Japanese, there are many words that were created and are related to the internet. There are special internet terms in Japanese that arose as a result of borrowing from English terms. There are also those that arise as a result of the word process. Some internet-specific terms, such as web or bug, are derived from English vocabulary that predates the internet. However, in Japanese, the term has been adapted into a new vocabulary related to the internet. This paper is designed to highlight the particular forming new words through the process of blending and clipping. This paper also intends to highlight philosophical aspects. It investigates the use of blend words and clipping in Japanese internet slang. In terms of internet in Japanese, the blending process consists of a combination of Japanese (wago) and English (gairaigo) words from different or the same word classes. Blends created from word which belong to the different words classes, the interpretation of their meaning generally involved straightforward process. Keywords: Clipping, Blending, Japanese, Internet slang

Abstract

In Japanese, the lexeme ‘mouth’ can be written using kanji 口 read as ‘kuchi’. It is a commonly used character that includes idiomatic expressions and compound words. Although ‘kuchi’ means ‘mouth’ and functions as a noun, it can change into different forms and meanings. Therefore, this research analyzed the forms and meanings of Japanese compound words formed by the lexeme ‘mouth’. The data was collected from Japanese newspaper articles from Asahi Shinbun in sentences using various compounds with the lexeme ‘mouth’ through observation and note-taking techniques. Then, the data was analyzed using the distribution method with the expansion technique. The morphology theory by Kageyama (2016) and Katamba (2018) is used to analyze Japanese compounds' construction and meaning. The results show that 120 Japanese compound words are formed by the lexeme ‘mouth’. There are three forms of compounds based on various word classes including compound nouns (consisting of noun + noun, adjective + noun, and verb + noun), compound adjectives (noun + adjective), and compound verbs (noun + verb). Based on its meaning, it can be classified into two categories, endocentric and exocentric meaning. By offering a thorough analysis of Japanese compound words containing the lexeme kuchi ‘mouth’, this research provides insights into Japanese morphosemantics by highlighting a single lexeme adopted within the compound, especially regarding forms and meanings of compound words. This research contributes to morphological theory application within Japanese studies and can be used for similar research in the future.
