Abstract

KKN-PPM entitled "Community Empowerment Through Plant Nursery Business Towards Jada Bahrin Village As A Center For Plantation And Fruit Seedling Production In The Province Of Bangka Belitung Islands" aims to increase students' concern and empathy for the problems of weak economic communities, especially farmers around the Universitas Bangka Belitung Campus so that there are changes in the behavior of students, farmers and farm families that are intended to be developed by the KKN PPM program. In addition, KKN PPM aims to overcome the problem of farmers' low income through community empowerment by becoming seed producers, and compiling KKN-PPM work plans that can achieve the objectives of KKN-PPM implementation as mentioned in numbers 1 and 2 above and get funding partners to support the sustainability of the business of developing Jada Bahrin Village as a seed production center. The target outcomes of the KKN-PPM program are: 1) the establishment of Jada Bahrin Village as a seedling production center for plantation and fruit crops in Bangka Belitung Islands Province, 2) at least 50 farmers and farmer families can become seedling breeders who have the knowledge and skills of vegetative plant propagation, such as grafting, grafting, grafting, and grafting, 3) the production of superior seeds of pepper, rubber, white longan, and citrus from vegetative propagation that are ready to be marketed, 4) a number of cadres have been formed for the formation of seed breeder farmer groups, which will then spearhead the formation of groups, and 5) a synergistic partnership has been established between farmers, NGOs, universities, and SOEs in order to empower the community through KKN PPM. Efforts are made through training in plant propagation techniques, construction of facilities and infrastructure, and empowerment of seedling breeder farmer groups. In the first year of KKN PPM, training on plant propagation techniques will first be conducted for a number of farmers, from the construction of mother gardens to the seed/seedling certification process. In order for the strategy to develop a plant nursery center to be achieved and sustainable, cooperation with relevant partner institutions, namely the Yayasan Bergema Emas Penghijau Lingkungan, and the Merawang Agricultural Extension Agency (BPP), will be conducted. Activities consisted of student debriefing, vegetative plant propagation training for farmers, and managerial training to strengthen farmer groups. As a result of the KKN PPM activities, 17 farmers were categorized as skilled in vegetative plant propagation, two farmer groups were formed, and a group garden for plant propagation was successfully established. These three achievements are the first step for the next stage to make Jada Bahrin Village the center of fruit and plantation seedling production in Bangka Belitung Islands Province.

Abstract

Inadequate capital strength, limited marketing reach and lack of access to innovation in plantation technology owned by the community have resulted in less than optimal plantation production. The government then collaborates with large plantation companies, both private and state-owned companies to assist and guide smallholder plantations in a mutually beneficial, whole and sustainable cooperation system through a partnership relationship, one of which is the oil palm plantation revitalization program. Plantation revitalization is an effort to accelerate the development of smallholder plantations through expansion, rejuvenation and rehabilitation of plantation crops supported by investment credit from banks and interest subsidies by the government by involving companies in the plantation business sector as partners in plantation development, processing and marketing of products. This study aims to: (1) Describe the socio-economic impacts received by farmers in the revitalization program before and after the program runs (2) Counting the income contribution from oil palm farming by following a revitalization program to the total income of a farmer family in Dalil Village, Bakam District, Bangka Regency. The research method used is survey methods. The analysis tools used is a descriptive qualitative and microsoft excel. The results showing that of the 6 aspects there were 5 aspects that experienced changes in the socio-economic impact of the oil palm revitalization program. The contribution of revitalization farm to the total family income of 35.44%, this shows less than half of family income is obtained from the revitalization farm.

Abstract

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Pepper production in Central Bangka Regency declined from 2019 to 2023 because pepper cultivation practices have not yet been implemented according to GAP (Good Agricultural Practices). The agroforestry system is one approach to addressing this issue. However, many pepper farmers have not widely applied this system, so it is necessary to understand farmers' attitudes toward the successful implementation of a sustainable pepper agroforestry system. This study aims to describe pepper farmers' attitudes toward the agroforestry system as a solution for sustainable agriculture and analyze the socioeconomic factors influencing their adoption of a sustainable pepper agroforestry system in Central Bangka Regency. METHODS: The research method used is quantitative with a descriptive approach and multiple linear regression analysis. Primary data were collected through questionnaires from 105 pepper farmers selected by purposive sampling. FINDINGS: The results show that the attitude of pepper farmers towards the agroforestry system falls into the ‘agree’ category, with an average variable achievement rate of 80.27%. The cognitive and conative attitude components fall into the strongly agree category, while the affective component falls into the agree category. Socioeconomic factors have a significant simultaneous effect on the attitude of pepper farmers in implementing a sustainable pepper agroforestry system, contributing 64.2%. Partially, the variables of age, formal education, income, and culture have a significant effect on the attitude of pepper farmers in implementing a sustainable pepper agroforestry system, while the variables of non-formal education and farming experience do not have a significant effect. CONCLUSION: The attitude of pepper farmers towards the agroforestry system is in the strongly agree category, consisting of cognitive, affective, and conative components. Socioeconomic factors simultaneously have a significant effect on the attitude of pepper farmers in implementing a sustainable pepper agroforestry system. Meanwhile, partially, the socioeconomic factor variables that influence the attitude of pepper farmers include age, formal education, income, and culture.

Abstract

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES The value chain inequality occurs in Pulau Besar Sub-district because the added value generated  during the marketing channel is not evenly distributed between actors. Marketing actors involved in the value chain of salak pondoh commodities in Pulau Besar Sub-district range from farmers and middlemen to retailers. This shows that farmers in Pulau Besar District have a weak bargaining position. So, this study aims to analyze the types of inequality in the salak pondoh value chain and how it impacts farmer share. The results are expected to provide a basis for policymaking and strategies that improve marketing efficiency and farmer empowerment in the local agribusiness system. METHODS   Data collection in this study was carried out using methods such as observation, interviews, and questionnaires. Two approaches in this study are used in data processing methods: descriptive and quantitative. The data analysis method is Farmer's share analysis is done to see the profit or share received by farmers in the form of a percentage. FINDINGS   The distribution of price shares in each channel varies. The pattern of channel l price share received by farmers amounted to 60.10%, channel ll amounted to 71.29%, and channel lll  amounted to 41.04%. This shows the level of inequality in the value received by farmers  compared to the final price at the consumer. In channel ll the inequality is the lowest because farmers receive the largest share. CONCLUSION Farmers are advised to choose marketing channels that provide the highest farmer share and  efficient marketing costs. Based on the study's results, the ll channel is most profitable for farmers. Therefore, farmers are advised to strengthen relationships with retailers and reduce dependence on middlemen. This research can provide useful insights for farmers and salak pondoh business actors.
