Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors that influence the demand for gold. Gold is considered a safe investment amid economic instability and inflation, which is relevant to the research findings that show that investors choose gold during high inflation. This study aims to develop a model that can predict the demand for gold by considering monetary policy, with international conditions and to develop guidelines for investors who want to balance their portfolios with gold in the face of market risks caused by oil price fluctuations, changes in stock market indices, and monetary policy. The analysis used is linear regression analysis with the Eviews program. The results of this study showed that there is a significant influence of GDP per capita, gold prices, and BI Rate on the demand for gold. These three variables have a positive influence, which means that the higher the GDP per capita, gold prices, and BI Rate, the higher the demand for gold, and vice versa, the lower the GDP, the lower the demand for gold. The results of this study also showed that there was no influence of silver prices and exchange rates on the demand for gold.

Abstract

Java contributes 57.04% of the national GDP, making it the primary engine of Indonesia’s economic growth. However, the six provinces receive this contribution unevenly, with pronounced disparities between northern and southern Java. Through Presidential Regulation No. 72 of 2023, the government has designated Main Activity Centers (PKU) and Supporting Activity Centers (PKP) on the island to promote more balanced economic development. However, the economic roles assigned to each PKU remain broad, and no recent study has mapped Java’s leading sectors to inform more targeted, potential-driven planning. Therefore, this research applies Location Quotient (LQ), Dynamic Location Quotient (DLQ), and Input-Output Table Analysis—Backward Linkage (IBL) and Forward Linkage (IFL)—to identify each province’s core sectors and their linkages. The results show that according to LQ and DLQ, Java’s leading sectors are wholesale and retail trade, construction, manufacturing, and education services; meanwhile, IBL and IFL analyses reveal that electricity and gas procurement, along with wholesale and retail trade, dominate in almost all provinces. These findings are expected to provide an initial framework for economic development planning aligned with each province’s economic structure, ensuring policies are optimally implemented.

Abstract

Educated unemployment is a challenge for economic development, especially in Java, the center of higher education and national economic activity. This study aims to analyze the influence of the Human Development Index (HDI), Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR), and Regional Minimum Wage (RMW) on the unemployment rate of university graduates in six provinces in Java for the period 2017–2024. This study uses panel data regression with the Random Effect Model (REM) approach. The results show that the HDI and GRDP have a positive and significant influence on educated unemployment in Java. The LFPR variable has a negative and significant influence on educated unemployment in Java. Meanwhile, the RMW variable has no effect on educated unemployment in Java. Suggestions from this study are that the government must ensure that the increase in HDI is balanced with equivalent employment opportunities, synergy between the world of education and the business world needs to be strengthened, there is a policy of active involvement of new graduates in productive activities, and increase productivity and the provision of work space.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are an important pillar in supporting the national economy, especially at the rural level. This study aims to analyze the supporting factors, obstacles, and development strategies of tofu MSMEs in Mojowetan Village, Banjarejo District, Blora Regency, Central Java. The method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation of 15 MSMEs that have been operating for more than two years. SWOT analysis was used to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in tofu production. The results show that the main strengths of Mojowetan tofu MSMEs lie in high product quality, rich nutritional value, and environmentally friendly waste utilization. However, weaknesses are still found in limited production equipment, fluctuations in raw material prices, and dependence on imported soybeans. Development opportunities include digital markets, product and packaging innovation, and support from the government and educational institutions. Meanwhile, threats faced include intense market competition and low digital literacy. A collaborative strategy is needed between MSMEs, the government, and other stakeholders in modernizing tools, strengthening human resource capacity, and developing digital marketing to create competitive and sustainable MSMEs.

Abstract

Economic growth is an important indicator for a country's economy. Along with the development of economic activity, it also has an impact on the environment. This is discussed in the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) theory where when per capita income increases, at a certain income level, environmental degradation also decreases. This study uses the Pooled Mean group/ARDL method from 1996 to 2021 in the BRICS country group. The results show that the EKC hypothesis does not hold in the short term, but holds in the long term. The corruption perception index has a positive and insignificant effect in the short term and a positive and significant effect in the long term, the human development index has a negative and insignificant effect in the short term and a negative and significant effect in the long term, finally coal consumption has a positive and significant effect in the short term and in the long term. Suggestions in this study include optimizing carbon taxes for countries that have not implemented them and making industrial business feasibility tests so that there are restrictions related to the waste produced.
