Abstract

A study of mangrove forest at Tanjung Sum Village, Kuala Kampar District was conducted in January 2016. The aim of this study was to determine the spescies composition, dominant species and conditions of mangrove vegetation. The survey method was used in this research, where the observations were made with the line transect method. The results showed the mangrove ecosystem had 11 species of mangrove, consisting of 8 families. These species were Avicennia. alba, A. marina, Nypa fructicans, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Rizophora apiculata, R. stylosa, Lumnutzera littorea, Xylocarpus granatum, Sonneratia alba, Thespenia populnea and Acrostichum sp. The importance value was highest on the group tree of A. alba (i.e.137.69%, at Station 1), the highest importance values was at station 2 (207.69%) and station 3 (113.06%). In the group of seedling the highest INP was recorded on T. populnea (137.59%) at station 1, at station 2 on T. populnea with INP 165%, and the highest INP at station 3, R. stylosa was 193.04%.The conditions of mangrove ecosystem at all stations can be categorized in a good condition with very good criteria.

Abstract

This study was done in June 2014 in the concervation area of Kasiak Island, Pariaman City, West Sumatera. The aim of study was to observe the species composition and its abundance of clown fish ( Amphiprion sp. ). The method used was quadrant transect. The data was analysed by t-test for among stations. The study resulted that 2 species of clown fish,i.e. Amphiprion akallopisos and A. ocellaris, were recorded. The abundance for each station categorized as low, withe the value ranged from 0.03 ind/m2 – 0.24 ind/m2. The most abundant fish found was A. akallopisos,i.e. 18 individuals at station I. The diversity index ranged 0.764 – 0.811, the dominance index ranged 0.115 – 0.405, whereas the eveness index ranged 0.625 – 0.654. The study in general, did not see the difference in fish abundance among the station. Keywords: Type, Abundance, Clown Fish, Kasiak Island, West Sumatera

Abstract

This study was conducted in July 2013 in the coastal waters of Beruk Island, Riau. This study was aimed to describe the species composition, distribution, density of seagrass and gastropods, its was also directed to know the distribution of gastropods based on the distribution of seagrass. The survey methods was used in this study. The results showed that there were 279 individuals of gastropod. Those consisted of six species, i.e. Strombus urceus, Ellobium sp, Nerita costata, Conus nobilis, Littorina sp, and Gibbula ardens. There were two seagrass species used as habitat by gastropod, i.e. Enhalus acoroides and Halophila ovalis. Distribution patterns of gastropods in Beruk Island were generally uniform, and varied at each station. The analysis showed that C. nobilis found at all stations, this indicated that these waters were suitable for the survival of C. nobilis, as well as the seagrass species of E. acoroides was also found in all stations. Keywords: Asosiasi, Gastropoda, Padang Lamun, Pulau Beruk

Abstract

This research was conducted in October 2016 in the waters of Bintan Strait of Desa Pengujan of Bintan Regency of Kepulauan Riau Province. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of seagrass density, macrozoobenthic abundance and seagrass density relation to macrozoobenthic abundance in waters of Bintan Strait of Desa Pengujan. This research uses survey method and location of observation determined by Purposive sampling. The location of the observation is divided into 3 stations, the first station is adjacent to the fish seed area, the second station is between the fish seed and magrove area and the third station is adjacent to the magrove area. The number of seagrasses found in 4 species are: Enhalus acoroides, Halopila minor, Halodule uninervis, and Thalassia hemprichii, which have very high seagrass density, and identified macrozoobenthos species are 3 classes: Gastropoda, Bivalva and Asteroidea, consisting of 13 species at 3 observation stations, 7 species of gastopod class, 5 species of bivalve class and 1 species of Asteroidea class, with abundant levels of abundance. The density of seagrass to makrozoobentos abundance of 18%, while 82% influenced by other environmental factors such as physical parameters, chemistry and organic matter content in the waters.Keyword : Pengujan village, Seagrass, Macrozoobenthos

Abstract

This research was conducted in March 2015 in the coastal waters of the village of Jago-Jago Central Tapanuli, North Sumatra. The aim of this research was to know the community structure of epiphytic diatom which include the type and abundance, diversity, uniformity and epiphytic diatom dominance contained in the leaves of Enhalus acoroides and to know the characteristics of the diatom habitat includes water quality parameters that affect the existence of epiphytic diatoms. Data were obtained by direct observation, measurement and sampling in the field followed by the identification of the type (species) of epiphytic diatom at the Marine Biological Laboratory, University of Riau. The results showed Total epiphytic diatoms found were 30 genera. The highest abundance of diatoms were Nitzschia and Skeletonoma that were recorded in station III. This genus has high adaptability pitch on the environment so that it can grow and develop properly. Diatom abundance of epiphytes on the leave base, middle and tip of the station I ranged from 31.093 to 71.035 ind/cm2, in the station II ranged from 59.093 to 92.855 ind/cm2 and at stations III ranged from 33.562 to 82.460 ind/cm2. The highest abundance of epiphytic diatoms was found in station II, ie 75.013 ind/cm2, while the lowest abundance was found in station I, 48.935 ind/cm2. The value of diversity index (H '), dominance index (D) and uniformity index (E), concluded that quality was diversity of species were, no species dominated and water quality was still in favorable condition to support the life of epiphytic diatoms.Key Words: Community Structure, Epiphytic Diatoms, Enhalus acoroides, TapanuliTengah

Abstract

This research was conducted in December 2015 in the Batu Kalang Beach coastal area of the Pesisir Selatan Regency, West Sumatera Province, aimed to determine the distribution and abundance of bivalves in the intertidal zone. Bivalves samples were taken by using Quadrant Transect Sampling Method and sample was analyzed in Marine Biology Laboratory, Fisheries and Marine Sciences Facultyand data was investigated descriptively. Based on the result, upper zone has the lowest abundance that is 4,00 ind/m2. At middle zone the abundance of bivalves was about 4,11 ind/m2, this abundance higher than upper zone. Bivalves abundance on lower zone has the highest abundance that is 4,89 ind/m². Bivalves abundance that founded during research on Batu Kalang Beach was variated, which as the highest bivalves was Periglypta reticulate, founded 15 species and the lowest abundance of bivalves founded three species that Hemidonax sp, Gafrarium divaricatum, Codakia tigerina. Keywords: Bivalves, Distribution, Abundance, Batu Kalang Beach, West Sumatera
