Abstract

AbstractCarrying capacity is an ability of aquatic environment to support the life of aquatic organisms and it can be determined based on dissolved oxygen concentration. To understand the dissolved oxygen based carrying capacity in the Sungai Paku reservoir, a research has been conducted in June-July 2019. Water samples were taken in three stations, Station 1 (riverine zone), Station 2 (transition zone) and Station 3 in the floating cage area (lacustrine zone). In  each station, there were 3 sampling points, in the surface, in the 2 Secchi depth and in the 4 Secchi depth was done once/week. Water quality parameters measured were dissolved oxygen, CO2, pH, temperature, transparency, depth, nitrate and phosphate. Carrying capacity was then analyzed. Result shown that DO concentration was 4.60-5.88 mg/L, in the surface, 3.77-4.64 mg/L in 2 Secchi depth and 2.08-2.93 mg/L in 4 Secchi depth. Water quality parameters were as follows: depth was 4-6 m, transparency was 69.1-80.8 cm, temperature was 29-30oC, pH was 5, CO2 was 7.92-15.42 mg/L, nitrate was 0.075-0.140 mg/L and phosphate was 0.065-0.0134 mg/L. The dissolved oxygen based carrying capacity in the Sungai Paku Reservoir is 2,032 kg/year and the number of fish cage that can be placed in the dam was 8 units (5 x 5 x 3 m).Keywords :  Dissolved oxygen, Floating cage, Sungai Paku Dam, Water quality

Abstract

Abstract Trophic State Index (TSI) is a method used to determine the trophical state of waters. The TSI was calculated based on physical, chemical and biological parameters and it is more representative for analysing the trophical state of waters. This research was conducted in March to April 2018 and it aims to understand the trophic state of the Akap Resevoir. There were three sampling stations namely Station 1 (inlet), Station 2 (in the middle of Akap Reservoir), and Station 3 (outlet). Samplings were done once/week for 3 weeks period. Water quality parameter measured were chlorophyll-a, total phosphorus, transparency, temperature, pH, nitrate, and free carbondioxide. Trophic status was calculated based on Carlson’s TSI. Results shown that the transparency was 24-30 cm, total phosphorus 0.24-0.54 mg/L, chlorophyll-a 25.56-38.38 µg/L, depth 1.63-2.53 m, temperature29-30 0C, pH 5-5.6, dissolved oxygen 2.95-3.28 mg/L and free carbondioxide 7.99-11.98 mg/L, TSI value 67.55-69.9. Based on Carlson’s TSI value, the  Akap Reservoir  can be categorized as moderate eutrophic. Keywords :Akap dam,Chlorophyll-a, Moderate eutrophic

Abstract

AbstractMany activities in the Tanjung Balam Lake contribute the input of organic and anorganic matter that affects the nutrient concentration and increasing the growth of phytoplankton. A research about Trophic State of Tanjung Balam Lakeby Phytoplankton in Buluh Cina Village Kampar District Riau Province has been conducted in June-July 2019. The location of the water samples to measure water quality defined 3 stations, namely in the inlet, the curve of the lake, and in the end of the lake. In each station, there were 2 sampling points, namely in the surface (0.15 m) and 2 Secchi depth (0.90 m). Samplings were conducted 3 times at intervals of a week. Water quality parameters measured were temperature, transparency, depth, dissolved oxygen, CO2, pH, nitrate and phosphate contents. Results shown that there were 61 species of phytoplankton that were belonged to 7 classes, namely Chlorophyceae (23 species), Trebouxiophyceae (4 species), Zygnematophyceae (4 species), Euglenophyceae (14 species), Bacillariophyceae (12 species), Cyanophyceae (3 species), and Cryptophyceae (1 species). The phytoplankton abundance in the Tanjung Balam Lake was 606,144-982,688 cells/L. The most common type of phytoplankton present was Monoraphodium griffithii. Results shown that the temperature was 28-30.3oC, transparency was 49.7-54 cm, depth was 151-236.7 cm, pH was 5, dissolved oxygen was 4.03-6.57 mg/L, CO2 was 3.83-6.13 mg/L, nitrate was 0.016-0.03 mg/L, and phosphate was 0.083-0.108 mg/L. Based on the type and abundance of phytoplankton present, it can be concluded that the Tanjung Balam Lake can be categorized as mesotrophic. Keywords: Kampar River, Oxbow Lake, Mesotrophic, Phytoplankton abundance

Abstract

Abstract            Periphyton is a microorganism that attached to submerged substrate. This research aims to determine the trophic state of the Bakuok Lake in Aur Sati Village based on periphton abundance. This reseacrh has been conducted in July-August 2019. There were 3 stations, namely Station 1 (around the plantation area), Station 2 (settlements area) and Station 3 (around the net cages area). In each station there were two sampling points, namely in the surface (15 cm depth) and 2 Secchi depths (174 cm depth). The substrate used is a pipe substrate (10x11 cm2). Substrate placement done 1 week before sampling. Sampling were conducted 3 time, once/week. The periphyton samples were obtained by spraying the pipe surface with aquadest using a plastic sprayer. . The periphyton were preserved with lugol 1% was then identified using an identification book Prescott (1974), Belcher and Swale (1978), Yunfang (1995), Biggs and Killroy (2000). Water quality parameters measured were temperature, transparency, depth, pH, dissolved oxygen, free carbondioxide, nitrate (NO3) and phosphate (PO4). Result shown  that there were 29 types of periphyton, belongs to 5 classes, namely Bacillariophyceae (14 species), Chlorophyceae (6 species), Cyanophyceae (4 species), Euglenophyceae (2 species), and  Zygnematophyceae (3 species). Periphyton abudance found during the study ranged from 10 cells/cm2-1749 cells/cm2. The most commom periphyton type was Nitzschia acicularis. Based on the type of periphyton, it was concluded that the Bakuok Lake can be catagorized as oligotrophic.  Keyword: Trophic State, Water Quality, Nitzschia acicularis

Water quality parameter measured were total phosphorus, chlorophyll-a, transparency, temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen and Nitrate. Trophic status was calculated based on Carlson Trophic State Index (TSI). The water quality parameter values were as follows: transparency: 69.2 - 80.8 cm, total phosphorus: 0.056 - 0.176 mg/L, chlorophyll-a: 1.753 - 3.372µg/L, depth: 69.2 - 80.8 cm, temperature: 28 - 30oC, pH: 5, dissolved oxygen: 2.08 - 5.74 mg/L and nitrate: 0.08 -0.11 mg/L. Trophic State Index value of the Sungai PakuReservoir was 54.49 - 59.57, it can be categorie as light eutrophic .Keywords: Water Quality, Reservoir, Light Eutrophic
