Abstract

Query reformulation is one of the tasks in Information Retrieval (IR), which automatically creates new queries based on previous queries. The main challenge of query reformulation is to create a new query whose meaning or context is similar to the old query. Query reformulation can improve the search for relevant documents for Open-domain Question Answering (OpenQA). The more queries are given to the search system, and the more documents will be generated. We propose a Word Predicted and Substituted (WPS) method for query reformulation using a word embedding word2vec. We tested this method on the Indonesian Question Answering System (IQAS). The test results obtained an E-1 value of 81% and an E-2 value of 274%. These results prove that the query reformulation method with WPS and word-embedding can improve the search for potential IQAS answers.

Abstract

Teachers’ readiness to integrate Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) plays a pivotal role in preparing students to understand and practice sustainable living. This study examined the readiness of 232 in-service biology teachers in South Sumatra, comprising 142 novice teachers (with ≤10 years of experience) and 90 experienced teachers (with>10 years of experience). A descriptive-comparative quantitative design was employed, using two structured questionnaires to measure teachers’ perspectives on ESD and their Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK). Findings revealed that teachers generally showed a strong commitment to ESD but only a moderate conceptual understanding. Within TPACK, attitudes were rated the highest, whereas technological and inquiry-based competencies were rated the lowest. Novice teachers scored higher than experienced teachers, while participation in environmental education training or prior teaching experience in related topics improved readiness. This study highlights the importance of continuous professional development in enhancing teachers’ technological and inquiry-oriented capacities. Strengthening these dimensions is crucial for effectively embedding ESD into biology teaching and science education more broadly. By addressing these gaps, the integration of ESD can move beyond awareness toward transformative learning that equips students with the skills and dispositions needed for sustainable futures.

Abstract

Text clustering is a technique in data mining that can be used for analyzing scientific articles. In Indonesia-accredited journals, SINTA, there are two languages used, Indonesian and English. This is the first research focusing on clustering Indonesian and English texts into one cluster. In this research, bidirectional encoder representations from transformers (BERT) and IndoBERT are used to represent text data into fixed feature vectors. BERT and IndoBERT are pre-trained language models (PLMs) that can produce vector representations that take care of the position and context in a sentence. To cluster the articles, the K-Means algorithm is implemented. This algorithm has good convergence and adapts to the new examples, which helps in improved clustering performance. The best k-value in the K-Means algorithm is defined by using the silhouette score, the elbow method, and the Davies-Bouldin index (DBI). The experiment shows that the silhouette score can produce the most optimal k-value in clustering the articles, which has a mean score of 0.597. The mean score for the elbow method is 0.425, and for the DBI is 0.412. Therefore, the silhouette score optimizes the performance of PLMs and the K-Means algorithm in analyzing scientific articles to determine whether in scope or out of scope.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan meningkatkan kemampuan guru SMP Negeri 56 Palembang dalam menyusun bahan ajar Bahasa Inggris dengan memanfaatkan Artificial Intelligence, khususnya platform Quizgecko. Pelaksanaan kegiatan meliputi tahap persiapan, pelatihan, pendampingan, evaluasi pre-test dan post-test, serta tindak lanjut. Selama pelatihan, guru mempraktikkan pengunggahan materi, pembuatan soal otomatis, serta analisis hasil keluaran Quizgecko. Evaluasi menunjukkan adanya peningkatan yang jelas, dengan rata-rata nilai pre-test sebesar 74,73 meningkat menjadi 88,70 pada post-test, atau peningkatan 18,69%. Hasil tersebut mengindikasikan bahwa pemanfaatan AI mendukung efisiensi penyusunan bahan ajar serta membantu guru memperkaya strategi pembelajaran di kelas.  Program ini memberikan dasar penting bagi integrasi teknologi berkelanjutan dalam proses pembelajaran di sekolah Kata Kunci : Kecerdasan Buatan, Quizgecko, Bahan Ajar, Pelatihan Guru, Bahasa Inggris
