Abstract

A study on the effect of andaliman (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC.) leaves ethanol extract to morphological ovary of mice (Mus musculus L.) strain DDW. has been, and was given orally by gavage on 4 days before estrus and 4 days after estrus with the volume given was 0,1 ml/10 g body weight. The research has been studied at Animal Structure And Physiology Laboratory of Department of Biology in Mathematics And Natural Science Faculty, University of  North Sumatera in Medan since February 2006 until September 2006. The research method used was completely randomized designed non factorial which consist of treatment and control groups. The treatment had one factor that is extract dosages with 2500 ppm (0,25 g/100 ml aquadest), 5000 ppm (0,5 g/100 ml aquadest), 10000 ppm (1,0 g/100 ml aquadest), 20000 ppm (2,0 g/100 ml aquadest), 40000 ppm (4,0 g/100 ml aquadest). The result showed that the chemistry consist of andaliman leaves extract is alkaloid, steroid, and saponin. The effect of andaliman leaves extract on 9 days to morphology of  ovary weight and diameter of mice did effect, but DnMRT showed non significantly effect of treatment and control groups of mice. From the result it was concluded that andaliman leaves extract did effect to ovary morphology of female mice, because can be effected oogenesis and ovulation. But the result showed that fluctuatif, because maybe the andaliman extract is crude extract that didn’t  isolation chemistry consist.

Abstract

Goats are one type of livestock that has a high socioeconomic value for farmers. Most of the goats owned by farmers in Amplas Village are grazed and penned. Goats that are kept in a semi-intensive way are annually attacked by diarrhoeal diseases compared to goats that are kept intensively. This is thought to be due to the presence of gastrointestinal parasites that attack livestock due to the way they are kept. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of infection and intensity of gastrointestinal nematode parasites in goats reared with semi-intensive and intensive rearing systems. The samples examined were 60 faecal samples which were divided based on the rearing system. The samples were then taken to the laboratory of the veterinary center in Medan. The results of the observations showed haemonchus, trichuris, and capillaria sp. The highest prevalence value in Haemonchus sp. was 100%. The lowest prevalence was in Capillaria sp. with a value of 3.3%. The highest intensity was for Haemonchus sp. parasites with a value of 358 grains/ind. The lowest intensity was for Capillaria sp. parasites with a value of 10 grains/ind.Keywords: parasite, nematode, gastrointestinal, goat

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the antioxidant potential of bioactive compounds from Adenostemma lavenia in targeting interleukin-6 (IL-6) associated with pulmonary sepsis. Phytochemicals from Adenostemma lavenia leaves were identified using GC-MS, and ten bioactive compounds with potential antioxidant activity were selected. These compounds underwent further in silico evaluation, including drug-likeness screening, biological activity prediction, pharmacokinetic and toxicity analysis, and molecular docking against interleukin-6 (PDB ID: 8J6F). Among them, stigmasterol showed the highest docking score of –8.1 kcal/mol and a PASS prediction probability (Pa) of 0.867 for antioxidant activity. Half of them fully complied with drug-likeness criteria. Among these, D-Allose, 2,4-Di-tert-butylphenol, and Phytol demonstrated the highest predicted antioxidant activity. Toxicity evaluations revealed a generally safe profile, with minimal nephrotoxicity in two compounds. Notably, Phytol exhibited the closest similarity in binding residues to the native ligand of IL-6, suggesting a strong binding orientation and promising therapeutic value. The in silico findings highlight Phytol and other antioxidant-rich phytoconstituents of A. lavenia as promising agents targeting IL-6, supporting their potential use as adjunct therapies for oxidative stress-related conditions such as pulmonary sepsis. These results contribute to the scientific understanding of natural antioxidants in inflammation control and warrant further validation through in vitro and in vivo studies.

Abstract

This study aims to simply identify Bacillus thuringiensis isolates from oil palm plantation soil in Batubara Regency through Coomassie Brilliant Blue (CBB) staining. Soil samples were isolated using a serial dilution method and then grown on selective media. The colonies formed were observed based on the morphological characteristics of Bt. The results of this study indicate that several isolates have morphological characteristics that match the characteristics of Bacillus thuringiensis. CBB staining successfully detected the presence of crystalline proteins in several isolates, characterized by the formation of crystals and the ability to bind blue dye in cells that have undergone sporulation, indicating the presence of delta-endotoxin. This study confirms that oil palm plantation soil in Batubara Regency has the potential as a source of local Bt isolates. The Bt isolates found can be used as initial candidates in the development of biopesticides while supporting environmentally friendly and sustainable pest control strategies.
