Abstract

The object of this research are to explore the microorganisms from rubber seed to prevent seed pathogens and beneficial to the growth of rubber plant. The research was conducted in the protection laboratory and greenhouse Sungei Putih Research Center from September to December 2014, using completely randomized design non factorial with 7 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments used are microorganisms exploration of healthy rubber seed, ie M0 (control), M1 (Trichoderma sp.(a)), M2 (Trichoderma sp.(b)), M3 (Aspergillus sp.), M4 (Rhizopus sp.), M5 (Isolates BBK(a)), and M6 (isolates BBK(b)). The results showed that microorganisms exploration from the healthy rubber seed has significant effect on all parameters. The best results to inhibit seed pathogens in the laboratory is Aspergillus sp. at 81.27%. For germinate speed and plants height the best results are Trichoderma sp.(b) at 5.75 days and 28.90 cm. The best results for the length of the root is Trichoderma sp.(a) at 35.10 cm, and for the root weight is Aspergillus sp at 4,91 g. Trichoderma sp.(a), Trichoderma sp.(b), and Aspergillus sp. besides potential as biocontrol agents pathogenic seed by way of seed coating, also has potential as a stimulator of growth and biological fertilizer which can improve the quality of the rubber plant growth. Abstract

ABSTRACT The Effect of dogfruit pericarp (Pithecellobium lobatum(Jack) Prain.) to consumption levels field rats (Rattus argentiventer (Rob & Kloss) in  laboratory.    Chemical control seems to be able to provide better results than other techniques, but the chemicals used can to harm other animals that are not pestst such as humans or pets, therefore the use of repelan from plant materials ie rind dogfruit  plant is expected to reduce the rat attack on the field. This research had been  conducted at the laboratory of vertebrate BBPPTP (Balai Besar Perbenihan dan Proteksi Tanaman Perkebunan) is located at Jl. Asrama Number. 124. Pondok Kelapa, Medan in november 2015 to february 2016, using a randomized block design non factorial. Parameter observed were field rats weights, food consumption levels and the behavior of field rat. The result showed that Utilitazion of dogfruit pericarp significantly reduce the rate of food consumption and weight field rats. The best result were showed by in treatment 800 g / L. Abstract

Peningkatan luas perkebunan monokultur kelapa sawit menyebabkan pengaruh buruk pada ekosistem yang menyebabkan penurunan produktivitas akibat adanya serangan patogen    Ganoderma sp.  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui potensi pemberian Trichoderma spp. asal rizosfer tanaman kelapa sawit dalam menghambat pertumbuhan Ganoderma sp. secara in vitro.  Penelitian dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Penyakit Tumbuhan, Program studi Agroekoteknologi, Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Sumatera Utara pada bulan Juni 2015 sampai Juli 2015.  Penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap Non Faktorial dengan delapan perlakuan dan tiga ulangan.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ketujuh isolat Trichoderma spp. berpotensi sebagai agens antagonis yang dapat menghambat pertumbuhan Ganoderma sp. secara in vitro.   Kata kunci : Trichoderma spp, Ganoderma sp, in vitro, kelapa sawit.

Abstract

Spodoptera litura is an important pest for tobacco. The objective of this study was to determine the potency of entomopathogenic fungi at various conidia density against Spodoptera litura on tobacco. This study was conducted in screen house, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sumatera Utara from October until February 2016. This study was used a randomized block design (RBD) with two factors and three replications. The first factor was the conidia density (106, 107, 108 conidia/ml), the second factor was the type of fungi (Metarhizium anisopliae, Beauveria bassiana, and Lecanicillium lecanii) The result showed that: the highest larval mortality was at concentration of 108 conidia/ml (73.33%). The highest larval mortality was on M. anisopliae (57.78%) followed by B. bassiana (51.11%) and L. lecanii (40.00%). The infected larvae showed slow movements, color changes to paleness, decreased appitite, over time silent and die. The dead larva body hardened and blackened. The highest intensity of fungal infection was at concentration of 106 conidia/ml (42.22%).

Abstract

Elaeidobius kamerunicus introduced to Indonesia in Palm Research Center, Marihat. It is one pollinator to pollinate palm. Genetic changes in these insects cause a decline in palm oil production. The purpose of this study to determine the genetic diversity of it based molecular analysis techniques AFLP using three primers. Primers used are HEX (EcoR1 ACA - Mse1 CTT), FAM (EcoR1 AGG - Mse1 CAG) and FAM (EcoR1 AGG - Mse1 CTT). Analysis of genetic diversity using the MEGA program version 6. Phylogenetic tree using 'Neighbor-Joining Tree'. AFLP amplification product to 42 samples of genomic it and 3 Sitophilus oryzae genomic sample as a control showed a high diversity. The analysis showed that itgenetically grouped separately with              S. oryzae. It contained in districts in North Sumatra has two large groups : group A1 and A2. Group A1 consisting of Ajamu, Bah Birong Ulu, Binanga, Bukit Sentang, Marihat, Padang Madarsah and PT. TPS Sibolga while the Group A2 consists of two regions, namely Marihat and Bah Birong Ulu while S. oryzae contained in Medan form their own group.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to study the influence of herbicides and time of trapping after application on population of weevil Elaeidobius kamerunicus. This research was conducted at Oil Palm Plantation Kalianta, Riau and at Laboratory of Indonesian Oil Palm Research Institute (IOPRI), using method of Factorial Randomized Group Design with 2 factors, the first was herbicides (without herbicide, methyl metsulfuron 100 gr/ha, paracuat  400 cc/ha, glyfosat 400 cc/ha) and the second factor is time of traps (2 hours after applications, 48 hours after application and 72 hours after application) with three replications.The results at field showed that population of weevil E. kamerunicushigher in treatment without herbicide compared to treatment using herbicide at male flower was 334 adults/spicelet and female flower was 689 adults/bunch. Treatment 72 hours after applications traping at male flower on population of weevil E. kamerunicus was 282 adults/spicelet. Keywords: Elaeidobius kamerunicus, Herbicide, oil palm, population.

Abstract

The cocoa farmers mostly practice conventional pest control that can be harmful to the environment, therefore integrated pest management has been developed. This research aimed to know diversity of insects in cocoa plantations affected by integrated pest management (IPM) and conventional (non IPM) techniques. This research was conducted in two villages in Biru-Biru District, Deli Serdang Regency and in Plant Pests Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Medan from June until September 2016. This research used four insect traps (sweep net, pitfall trap, light trap, and yellow trap), and repeated five times. The results showed that insects caught on cocoa plantations with IPM were 12 orders and 44 families, the highest relative density value was 27.49%, the lowest was 0.07%, the index value of insect diversity Shannon-Weiner (H') was 2.90 (moderate) and the index value of insect evenness (E) was 0.76 (high) whereas on cocoa plantations with non IPM were 10 Orders and 39 families with the highest relative density value was 25.27%, the lowest was 0.10%, the index value of insect diversity Shannon-Weiner (H') was 2.76 (moderate) and the index value of insect evenness (E) was 0.75 (high). Abstract

Rat is the important rice pests. Damageon rice crops caused by rat's attack in Indonesia reached a loss of 15-20% every year. This research aims to find out the rat's attack after release of owls. This research was conducted in Desa Sidodadi Ramunia and Desa Baru Deli Serdang with the distance about 22 km. This research was conducted   from May until December 2016.This research  used a survey method. Determination of research areas with purposive sampling method.Determination sample area using diagonal sampling method.Analyzed using Spearman's rank. The results show that the  active rat's nest in Desa Baru is more than Sidodadi Ramunia, it was on age 40 days after planting (hst) in Desa baru there are 18 active nest while in Desa Sidodadi Ramunia none active rat's nest. The highest percentage of attacks was found in Desa Baru with moderate category (27.5%) , and the lowest in Desa Sidodadi Ramunia (0%). Thehighest production was   in Desa Sidodadi Ramunia (5.71 tons/ha)and  the lowest production was inDesa Baru (3.11 tons/ha). Correlation result showed that the corelation value of the active rat's nest with the percentage of rat's attackis 0.917,  correlation value of amountowl with active rat's nest is  - 0.928,  correlation value amount of owl with the percentage of rat's attack - 0.866 and correlation value offarmer's perception to controling rat's attack with crop production is 0.810.Keywords: Rattus argentiventer, rat's nest,Tyto alba

Abstract

Oil palm is one of the commodity crop that has an important role in the economy in Indonesia. The main problems encountered are low productivity caused by the decline in population of oil palm pollinating insects Elaeidobius kamerunicusFaust.The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of systemic insecticides on E. kamerunicuspalm oil plantations in PTPN IV Marihat, Pematang Siantar. This research was conducted at Indonesian Oil Palm Research Institute (IOPRI), Pematang Siantar collaboration with PTPN IV. The methodwasfactorial randomized block designwith two factors and three replications. The first factor was type of active ingredient ( asefat dimehipo, klorantraniliprol), the second factor was dose insecticide (5 gr, 10 gr, 20 gr) and (7.5 ml, 5 ml, 10 ml). The parameters were observed consisting are total population of E.kamerunicusper hectare and sex ratio. The results showed thatthe total decrease in the population of E. kamerunicus 90 days after application was 18% of the inifialpopulation. Sex ratio of E. kamerunicus was1:1.5. Abstract

ABSTRACT The aim of this research was to find out quantity of factitious host’s eggs and duration of ultraviolet (uv) radiation which was effective in Trichogramma spp. propagation. This research used completely randomized design factorial with 2 factors. i. e, quantity factitious host’s egg ratio 1 : 6 , 1 : 7,  1 : 8, and 1 : 9 and duration of uv radiation 15 minutes, 25 minutes, and 35 minutes. The result showed that quantity of factitious host’s eggs and duration of uv radiation significantly affected to parasitize of the egg factitious host parasitization emergence and Corcyra cephalonica hatched. The highest percentage of parasitization (95.3%) was in the treatment of 1 : 6 with duration uv radiation 25 minutes, the lowest percentage of larva appeared (19.4%) occured on 35 minutes duration of uv radiation with treatment of 1 : 6, the highest percentage of imago appeared (97%) presented in 25 minutes duration of uv radiation with treatment of 1 : 6. Quantity of the best factitious host’s egg ratio with the best duration of uv radiation was also found in the treatment of 1 : 6 with duration of uv radiation 25 minutes and it was shown from the high percentage of parasitization.Key Words: Corcyyra cephalonica, duration of uv radiation, Trichogramma spp.
