Abstract

This research was held to calculate and assess the efficiency of drip irrigation and crop water requirement of cauliflower on andosol land. The parameters observed were the efficiency of the use of water, the efficiency of the water storage and crop water requirement. The results of this experiment indicated that the lowest water consumption efficiency was occurred in the early phase of growth i.e 91,85%, the largest water consumption efficiency was occured in the middle and end phase of the growth i.e 100%. The lowest water storage efficiency was occurred at the early phase of growth ie 23,77%, the largest water storage efficiency was occurred in the final phase i.e 76,42%. Crop water requirement in the initial phase was 2.88 mm.day-1, in the middle phase of growth was 6,58 mm.day-1 and the final phase of the growth was 6.1 mm.day-1. Abstract

Information system in Perbaungan irrigated area still done manually, so the storage, processing and delivery of information to be ineffective and inefficient. In the information management most the result were done by human role and took a relatively longer time. Moreover, the information seekers-and decision-makers also have difficulty in obtaining the data they need. Therefore, it is necessary to further develop of the information system. Web-based information system is considered to be a solution in order to access information faster, systematicaly and easy to use. For that a web-based information systems in the management of irrigation in Perbaungan irrigation areas Serdang Bedagai Regency was designed. Irrigated network information system was designed using PHP programming language, MySQL database and the method of system development life cycle (SDLC). Abstract

The basic principles used in the system is are circulation akuaponik, there use of water that has been used in the cultivation of carp, through a combination of akuaponik and hydroponics. This study aims to determine the water conveyance efficiency of water in plants, knowing the degree of acidity (pH), dissolved oxygen (DO) of water, ammonia (NH3) and the temperature in the process of raising fish and cucumber plants, and perform economi analysis methods applied akuaponik. The results of this study showed average water conveyance efficiency on full half coal pan 100 % end on full coal pan 79,61 %, well as a solid stocking of carp weighing 50ekor/m2 reached 147-150 grams per fish of initial weight 80-110 grams per cow within 3 months. Water quality pH, DO, NH3, and temperature shows the water quality meets there quirements of carp culture. Break even point production for fish 460,1 ton/years and 403,1 ton/years for cucumber plants. Keywords: water conveyance efficiency, water quality, plant cucumbers, akuaponik, and carp.

Abstract

It appeared that many agricultural crops that has been processed further become more economics than before. One of the manufacturing process is frying. This research was the effect of variety of agricultural comodity during vacuum pump frying with potato (K1), sweet potato (K2) and taro (K3). This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Agricultural Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra in November until December 2012 by completely randomized design non factorial. Parameters observed were were water content, yield and chips organoleptic test (taste, crunchness, and total acceptance). The results showed that the highest yield was K2 39,509% and the lowest was K1 23,512%, the highest water content was K1 2,715% and the lowest was K2 2,454%, while the highest organoleptic taste was K1 3,600 and the lowest was K2 and K3 3,167, the highest crunchness was K1 3,700 and the lowest was K3 3,500, the highest total acceptance was K1 3,477 and the lowest was K3 3,230. Abstract

Information system in Karo Regency irrigation area was still done manually, so the storage, processing and delivery of information to be ineffective and inefficient. In the information management most the result were done by human role and took a relatively longer time. Moreover, the information seekers-and decision-makers also had difficulty in obtaining the data they need. Therefore, it is necessary to further develop of the information system. Web-based information system is considered to be a solution in order to access information faster, systematicaly and easy to use. For that a web-based information systems in the management of irrigation in Karo Regency irrigation area was designed. Irrigation network information system was designed using PHP programming language, MySQL database and the method of system development life cycle (SDLC). The result was adynamic website that displays information and could interact with the user and was user friendly where the model user interface of the web was made to facilitate the user to use system properly. Abstract

One of fabricated process is slicing. This study was aimed to examine the effect of using a serrated blade on the effective capacity of the tool and the percentage of broken material on the mechanical slicer, conducted in December2012 to January 2013 in the Laboratory of Agricultural Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra, Medan, using non-factorial completely randomized design(CRD). The parameter smeasured were the effective capacity of the tool and the percentage of broken materials. The results showed an effective tool capacity of 47.52kg/hr, 50.5 4kg/hr and73.07kg/hr respectively the percentage of unsliced material of 5.07%, 4.63% and 3.92% respectively. Abstract

Mechanical roaster has multi functional for bean commodities. The aim of study was to test mechanical coffee roaster rotary type with soybean commodity. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Agricultural Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra in November until December 2012 by study of literature, experiment, observation, and testing of the equipment. Parameters observed were effective capacity, moisture content, and the economic analysis. The results showed that the effective capacity of a mechanical soybean roaster  type rotary  was 5.590 kg/h, the highest water content was 7.07% and the lowest was 5.70%, while from the economic analysis, the BEP was 3.885,42 kg, NPV 16% and 20% were Rp. 13. 758.853,97 and    Rp. 12.086.672,76, respectively and the IRR was 52,91%. Abstract

Palm oil mill solid waste resulting from CPO production process is channeled into pond waste (Cooling Pond I). It is usually thrown to the ground so that it can contaminate the environment. This study was aim to utilize the oil palm waste as briquettes. Briquettes is one of the alternative to replace oil. Research was done by completely randomized factorial design with 2 factors i.e : density of air line (0,4, 0,8, and 1,2 cm) and Height of used cooking oil (2, 2,5, and 3 cm). Parameters observed were heating time, oil volume, and sootness. The results showed that the density of air line had a highly significant effect on the heating time, volume of oil and had no effect on the sootnes. Height of used cooking oil had a significant effect on sootness and had no effect on the heating time and volume of oil. The best treatment combination was L1T2 (0,4 centimeters density of air line and 2,5 centimeters Height of used cooking oil) with equipment heatimg time of 43,90 minute  and 1,79 gr sootness. Abstract

Every year the need for paper continue to rise while the raw material from wood have been harder to find, therefore and the alternative of raw materials would be of plant fibers or fibrous waste such as empty fruit bunches of oil palm and paper waste. This research was aimed to study the characteristics of paper made ​​from empty fruit bunch pulp and paper waste pulp. Therefore, a research had been conducted in May-June 2013. The making of paper was done at Jl. Roso No. 8 Delitua and the testing of paper was done in PT PDM Indonesia Laboratory, Medan North Sumatera using factorial randomized block design with one factor i.e. waste paper composition (0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50%). Parameters observed were grammage, tensile and tearing strength. The results showed that the composition of the waste paper had highly significant effect on grammage and tensile strength. The resulting paper could be categorized as art paper with the best results obtained from the composition of 40% (120 g of oil palm empty fruit bunches and 80 g waste paper).
