Abstract

Motorcycle performance is influenced by many factors, including combustion chamber dimension, fuel characteristic, type of spark plug, spray flame, ignition timing, and the combustion chamber's cooling system to avoid incomplete combustion and knocking processes. The spark plug is an essential component of SIE. Several studies, such as spark plug gap, material type, multiple-ground Electrode, roughness, etc., have been conducted to examine the effect of spark plug modifications on the combustion process. Some previous research investigates the impact of a multiple-ground electrode spark plug in biofuel combustion. However, a study about the effect of multiple-ground electrode spark plugs on the gasoline combustion process has not been conducted. This research was conducted to determine the impact of multiple-ground electrode on Supra 125 cc performance. The data displayed in this study are power, torque, BHP, and BMEP in single, double, and triple ground electrode. The results showed that the double ground electrode spark plug produced better performance than other variations.

Abstract

The availability of non-renewable energy has recently been running low and so impacts electrical energy. Renewable energy is converted from natural sources to kinetic energy. The Double Propeller Water Turbine is a water turbine that is suitable to be applied using a small flow head. This research is a development of previous research by changing the degree of inclination of the blade angle on the turbine, which is used to determine changes in the power and efficiency of the Double Propeller turbine at various speeds. The results showed that the Double Propeller turbine rotation’s performance was directly proportional to the slope of the turbine blade angle. The optimum angle of attack on the hydro turbine affected the lift force and the ability of the water flow to capture water power. At the lowest blade angle, which is 20 degrees, the highest rotational speed is obtained with a value of 335 rpm. The turbine generates the most significant power with a blade angle of 20o, with a value of 4.81 watts, and the highest efficiency is 24%. The degree of blade angle affects the performance of the Double Propeller turbine.

Abstract

Turbin angin Savonius merupakan turbin angin Jenis VAWT (Vertical Axis Wind Turbine) yang berputar akibat gaya drag dari aliran angin. Turbin ini yang memiliki desain sederhana dan terbuat dari 2 silinder sirkular yang dipasang berlawanan arah. Beberapa Langkah telah dilakukan untuk meningkatkan efisiensi turbin diantaranya dengan mengatur aspect ratio, penggunaan endplate, mengatur jumlah sudu hingga modifikasi desain sudu. Modifikasi yang sering digunakan dalam pengembangan turbin savonius bertujuan untuk menimbulkan efek flushing pada negative wake yang terbentuk dibagian belakang sudu turbin. Efek flusing dapat ditimbulkan dengan pemanfaatan overlap, slotted blade dan vent pada turbin Savonius. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui performa turbin Savonius dengan potongan parsial. Performa turbin yang di jadikan tolak ukur dalam penelitian ini adalah kecepatan angular turbin dan daya yang dihasilkan oleh turbin. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa celah yang dibuat diantara potongan sudu parsial menyebabkan munculnya efek flushing yang berlebih (over-flushing) pada sudu. Aliran fluida dengan momentum tinggi terbuang akibat munculnya gap yang lebar diantara potongan sudu parsial. Pengurangan efek over flusing dapat dilakukan dengan mengurangi jarak gap antara potongan sudu parsial.

Abstract

Kebutuhan energi diwilayah Kabupaten Banjar dari tahun ke tahun terus meningkat. Sebagian besar kebutuhan energi  penduduk pedesaaan adalah untuk sektor rumah tangga. Tanah gambut yang mempunyai nilai kalori cukup tinggi dapat dijadikan sebagai salah satu energi domestik untuk memenuhi kebutuhan energi. Dengan potensi yang cukup besar  dan nilai kalori efektif sekitar 24 MJ/kg, tanah gambut dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan bakar, sehingga masalah kebutuhan akan sumber energi  dapat diatasi, Berdasarkan ketersediaan sumber daya gambut yang cukup banyak di desa Kayu Bawang ini, maka daerah mempunyai potensi untuk memanfaatkan gambut sebagai bahan bakar domestik. Sumber energi dari minyak, gas bumi, dan batubara sedikit demi sedikit berkurang, sehingga perlu dicarikan sumber energi domestik untuk memenuhi kebutuhan eberdi di desa.. Keadaan seperti ini menuntut kita untuk melakukan satu usaha yaitu bagaimana memanfaatkan gambut sebagai bahan bakar domestik dengan produk yang mudah digunakan dan dijangkau oleh masyarakat desa. Salah satu teknologi tepat guna yang bisa memanfaatkan tanah gambut sebagai bahan bakar adalah  dengan cara tanah gambut di jadikan briket tanah gambut melalui teknologi pembriketanTujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah memanfaatkan tanah gambut sebagai energi domestik dengan membuat briket tanah gambut yang pada akhirnya memberikan manfaat dan solusi kepada  warga Desa Kayu Bawang dalam  permasalahan energi. Metode yang gunakan adalah observasi lapangan dan pembuatan cetakan briket tanah gambut yang di praktekan dengan mitra sesuai dengan target dan harapan. Target yang dicapai dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah produk cetakan briket tanah gambut. Dari kegiatan ini dihasilkan cetakan briket yang mampu mencetak briket tanah gambut yang digunakan sebagai energi domestik  oleh warga Desa Kayu Bawang ini. Warga sangat tertarik terhadap kegiatan ini, karena dengan adanya kegiatan ini  tanah gambut bisa dimanfaatn sebagai energi domestic di desanya yang pada akirnya  dapat mengurangi biaya pengeluaran bahan bakar

Abstract

Clothes dryers are now widely used to help with laundry. During the rainy season, drying clothes outside is impractical. Furthermore, clothing may become contaminated with pollution. The rotating drum dryer is the most widely used model for utilizing centrifugal force. However, there are some disadvantages, such as wrinkled clothes from sun drying. The purpose of this study was to determine heat transfer in a clothes dryer with a drying cabinet type. The clothes to be dried are hung on a rack and blown dry with hot air. Convection will reduce the amount of water in the clothes. The hot air inlet velocity was varied between 3m/s, 4m/s, and 5m/s for this study. Changes in clothing surface temperature, calorific value, and efficiency were measured. The findings indicated that the air entering the drying cabinet must be moving at a slow speed. As a result, the incoming air has more time to transfer heat and contains more energy.

Abstract

Kampung Nambangan Perak is located in Kelurahan Kedung Cowek, Bulak District, Surabaya, East Java. The majority of Nambangan residents work as fishermen. The Nambangan community is still unfamiliar with the use of alternative energy such as solar cells to replace fuel oil. The road access of village environment was only illuminated independently by installed map of people’s residents. The dim road conditions can cause a sense of alertness to residents and road users who spent the night. In addition, the installation of lamps with greater power can burden the economy of residents due to rising electricity prices. Based on field observations and direct interviews with local residents, there were three focuses aspects of this community service program, namely the introduction of alternative energy to residents, installation and guidance of lamp maintenance equipped with solar panels. Along with the implementation of guidance and education program for the Nambangan community, it is hoped that the residents will understand and feel familiar with the availability of alternative energy. The residents are also expected to be able to apply the use of alternative energy in their daily life. In addition, residents are expected to be able to carry out the process of assembling and maintaining alternative energy sources, especially solar panels.

Abstract

The selection of materials and aerodynamic design forms needs to be considered in designing a comfortable helmet. The emergence of the drag force on the helmet causes a compressive force, which causes the rider discomfort when driving at high speeds. This research was conducted on 4 variations of helmet models consisting of 1 time-trial type helmet as a reference and 3 other helmets which were developed from the basic model. This simulation was conducted in a 2D helmet model at Re 7.14 x 104, 1.00 x 105, and 1.16 x 105. In this study, Turbulence Intensity was varied as 0.1%, 0.2%, and 1%. The results are shown through the drag coefficient's value and visualization of streamlined flow. The results showed that the 2D simulation on the helmet produced a lower error by using Set Up Turbulence Intensity 0.1%. The emergence of the Oscillating Karman vortex in large size indicates the higher the drag force that occurs on the helmet. In this study, helmet type 3, with a trailing edge and has a smooth curve, has the lowest drag force at Re 1.16 x 105 with a drag coefficient value of around 0.38.

Abstract

Residents who work as fishermen in Kalisari tether their boats by the river close to their settlements. To maintain the safety of the boat, residents need adequate lighting around the riverbanks. However, currently, the area used as a boat mooring area does not yet have sufficient lighting. Residents set up guard posts around the boat mooring area to maintain the boat's safety and gather when an association meeting is held. The boat mooring area is also an area for children to play on the riverbank. The installation of lighting is an essential requirement for the community to make monitoring the area around the mooring area easier. The installation of solar-powered lighting is carried out to solve this problem. In this activity, the service team also provided education on solar energy for Kalisari residents. Residents were also given training in the assembly and maintenance of installed solar panels. Service activities carried out in the fishing village of Kalisari received a positive response from the community. This can be seen from the enthusiasm of the community in attending the socialization activities. The installation of lamps equipped with solar panels received positive responses from residents, marked by the community's enthusiasm.

Abstract

Vegetable oil is one of the alternative sources of raw material for fuel oil to produce biodiesel. The conversion reaction process requires the help of a catalyst to break down triglycerides into methyl esters. Therefore, this study aims to determine the performance of catalysts made from coconut shells to convert bulk oil into biodiesel. The catalyst performance is focused on biodiesel's yield parameters through the influence factor of catalyst weight, molar ratio, and %FAME. This research was conducted in three stages, namely (1) catalyst preparation, (2) application of catalyst performance through the conversion process of bulk oil into biodiesel, (3) washing of biodiesel. The first stage was catalyst preparation carried out by utilizing a coconut shell, which was first made into charcoal, then activated using H3PO4 then sulfonated with H2SO4. The second stage was the conversion process of bulk oil into biodiesel using coconut shell catalysts through a transesterification process using variations in the catalyst's weight to bulk oil (0.5; 1; 1.5; 2; and 2.5% wt/wt) and bulk oil molar:methanol ratio (1: 3; 1: 6; and 1: 9). The third stage was the process of washing biodiesel using HCl. Based on this study's results, the best catalyst weight was 2% wt/wt with a molar ratio of 1: 9 resulting in the highest yield of 89% and the FAME of 80.36%.

Abstract

The Savonius turbine is widely used because it has a simple design. However, the Savonius turbine has a lower efficiency than the Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine (HAWT). Several studies have been conducted to increase the efficiency of the Savonius turbine. Turbine performance can be improved by reducing the negative vortex by creating a flushing effect. This experiment was conducted to determine the impact of circular cut-off end plates on the Savonius turbine. The research results are shown through turbine performance data on wind turbine angular speed, electric power, static torque, and efficiency. The wind turbines with circular cut-off endplates had higher angular velocities than conventional Savonius turbines. The angular velocity measurement is carried out when the turbine is unloading. Meanwhile, the electric power and static torque of a conventional turbine are more significant than a modified turbine. The measurement of electric power and static torque is carried out when the turbine is in a generator-loaded condition (loading).
