Abstract

Rubber is one of Indonesia’s main commodities resulting in a considerable number of people relying their incomes as rubber farmers. However, unstable rubber price proves to be a problem for these farmers. One solution to be offered is an alternative natural coagulant which is easily obtainable and able to produce good quality rubbers. Averrhoa bilimbi with its known acidic properties shows a prospect as a natural coagulant. This study aims to determine the effect of variation in the concentration of Averrhoa bilimbi extract on the characteristics of rubber clone IRR 118 as well as the advantages and disadvantages of using the extract as natural coagulant. The rubber clone used was IRR 118 with various Averrhoa bilimbi etracts of 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% and 2% synthetic chemical coagulant formic acid as comparison. The coagulant volume was 20 ml for each concentration and the volume of latex used was 100 ml. The characteristics of the rubber tested were TSC, DRC, Po and PRI. The results showed that the highest value of dry rubber content (DRC) was at 100% natural coagulant concentration which is 34% with a total solid content (TSC) value of 37% while the highest Plasticity Retention Index (PRI) value was at 100% concentration, which is 92%. This study exhibits the use of natural coagulant from Averrhoa bilimbi has met the Indonesian Rubber Standard SNI 06-1903-2000. Therefore, Averrhoa bilimbi extract can be used as an alternative coagulant for rubber latex.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to increase corn production in Sabah Balau using POCI (Special Liquid Organic Fertilizer) products from Masaro. POCI is used as an organic fertilizer and its farming produces a higher production number, higher quality product, faster production rate while its production cost is lower. On the other hand, the problem of Indonesia is that national agriculture is stuck in inorganic chemical fertilization that has an impact on accelerating the degradation of agricultural land fertility. This matter can occur due to various problems, especially the culture of using chemical fertilizers that have been going on for too long. The activities carried out include socializing about recycling organic waste with POCI Masaro, conducting outreach activities about the benefits of POCI Masaro and practicing composting for corns. The results showed the enthusiasm of the community in participating to make POCI Masaro and demonstration plots. The output of this activity: Increased corn production, increased of knowledge and skills of community in making and applying POCI Masaro on plant and motivation of farmers to independently develop alternative organic fertilizers that are in accordance with farmers' needs.

Abstract

Natural rubber is a plantation commodity that has a significant role in the country's economy. This study aims to determine the effect of the natural coagulant extract of kaffir lime with centrifugation and non-centrifugation treatment on the coagulation process, pH and coagulation time, characteristics of rubber clone IRR 118 and comparison of the quality of rubber with 2% formic acid chemical coagulant. The volume of coagulant used was 75 mL mixed with 150 mL of latex, so that coagulation occurred and produced coagulum. Then the resulting coagulum is analyzed for the characteristics of the rubber to determine the quality of the rubber. Characteristic analysis carried out was Dry Rubber Content (DRC), Initial Plasticity (Po), Plasticity Retention Index (PRI), Mooney Viscosity, ash content, impurities content, volatile matter content, and nitrogen content. The results showed that the natural coagulant extract of kaffir lime could coagulate latex, lowering the pH of latex thereby speeding up coagulation time. From the rubber characteristic test using kaffir lime natural coagulant it complies with SNI 06-1903-2017 SIR 20. The quality of rubber produced from using kaffir lime natural coagulant extract as a coagulant can equate the quality of rubber produced by using 2% formic acid chemical coagulant, but coagulant The natural ingredients used have drawbacks, namely the availability of seasonal fruit, and the need for treatment before being used as a coagulant.

Abstract

Kelapa sawit sebagai salah satu komoditas perkebunan unggulan di Indonesia menghasilkan limbah berupa pelepah selama proses produksi kelapa sawit. Desa Sabah Balau, Lampung Selatan merupakan kawasan yang dikelilingi oleh perkebunan karet sebagai komoditas utama serta tanaman kelapa sawit yang diusahakan masyarakat sekitar. Pengolahan limbah pelepah sawit berpeluang menyelesaikan permasalahan lingkungan serta menghasilkan nilai ekonomi bila diproses menjadi produk yang bernilai tinggi, yaitu media tanam jamur tiram (baglog). Pemberian informasi mengenai potensi limbah pelepah kelapa sawit di Desa Sabah Balau dilakukan melalui Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat yang terdiri dari empat tahap, yaitu tahap perencanaan dan persiapan, tahap pelaksanaan, serta tahap evaluasi. Tahap pelaksanaan kegiatan dilakukan melalui sosialisasi dan praktik. Materi sosialisasi terintegrasi dengan praktik meliputi bahan baku dan produksi baglog, proses sterilisasi dan inokulasi serta cara budidaya jamur tiram yang baik. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang telah dilakukan di Desa Sabah Balau berupa sosialisasi dan praktik pembuatan media tanam jamur tiram (baglog) meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat mengenai potensi limbah pelepah kelapa sawit sebagai bahan baku baglog, proses pembuatan baglog, serta proses budidaya jamur tiram.

Abstract

Pelaksanaan pemberdayaan masyarakat melalui kegiatan pengelolaan sampah plastik menjadi produk berupa paving block, serta sebagai prospek bisnis dikalangan menengah kebawah. Tujuan utama dalam kegiatan ini yaitu masyarakat Desa Kota Agung, Kec. Tegineneng, Kab. Pesawaran, Lampung, dimana kegiatan ini dilakukan pada tanggal 24 januari 2023, yang dihadiri oleh 40 orang. Metode penyampaian yang dilakukan yaitu berupa penyuluhan mengenai sampah dan pendampingan cara pembuatan dengan memperlihatkan produk jadi dan melalui video sebagai media pembelajaran dalam pembuatan paving block dari sampah plastik. Selama pemaparan tentang proses pembuatan, respon masyarakat sangat antusias. Hal tersebut dilihat dari masyarakat yang banyak bertanya bahkan mencatat tentang cara pembuatan paving block dikarenakan proses pembuatan yang sangat mudah dan dapat mengurangi sampah yang ada disekitar untuk diolah menjadi produk yang bermanfaat dan bernilai jual.

Abstract

Coconut plant is frequently referred to as the plant of life since every part of it may be utilized and turned into a product. One of the commercial processed product by coconut is virgin coconut oil (VCO), which has many benefits to health properties. VCO is extracted from coconut milk from coconut fresh. The introduction of virgin oil (VCO) to partners aimed about VCO's advantages and development of appropriate technology that can be applied to local communities in Negeri Katon, Lampung Selatan. This community service activity program introduced fermentation method using yeast to convert coconut milk into VCO. The activity were conducted in three steps: i.e presentation of VCO process production and discussion, demonstration of making VCO together, and evaluation based on pre and post-test form results. Several analysis have been conducted including the percentage yield, density, viscosity and pH of the VCO. The evaluation of this activity was obtained from pre and post-test results. The results of the pre-test showed that among 50% the people of Negeri Katon really needs to the activity of making VCO by fermentation together. Based on the highest post-test result of 91%, it can be concluded that the VCO-making activities are very useful. Further development of activities, such as intensive practice in making VCO and training in packaging and selling VCO is very needed. Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that the activity of making VCO by fermentation for the community of Negeri Katon is very necessary to be carried out in terms of utilizing coconut into VCO and creating business opportunities for the future.

Abstract

Rubber is one of the plantation products as a foreign exchange earner for the country. The process of processing rubber requires coagulants to accelerate coagulation. Aloe vera is a plant that contains compounds of organic acids, is expected to be able to accelerate the coagulation process. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the use of natural coagulants of aloe vera extract on the characteristics of IRR 118 clone rubber. The variations of the extracts used are natural coagulant extracts of aloe centrifugation and no centrifugation and the chemical coagulant format acid 3% as a comparison. Centrifugation of natural coagulant extract of aloe vera is carried out at a speed of 3000 rpm for 1 hour. The characterization of rubber analyzed was DRC (Dry Rubber Content), Po (Initial Plasticity), PRI (Plasticity Retention Index), ash content, evaporating substance content, mooney viscosity, dirt content, and nitrogen content.From the results of the study, it was obtained that the percentage of DRC, Po, PRI, and Mooney Viscosity was highest in AV natural coagulants without centrifugation, namely 28%, 36%, 80%, and 80%. The lowest percentage of ash, dirt and nitrogen content in natural coagulants of AV centrifugation was 0.38%, 0.014%, and 0.36%.Aloe vera natural coagulants without centrifugation and centrifuged ones can be used as coagulants for the latex coagulation process because they have met all the requirements of SNI SIR 20 and can be used as natural coagulants.

Abstract

Coconut sap produced from coconut trees has a short shelf life due to contamination and undergoes natural fermentation. One way to extend the shelf life of coconut sap is by adding preservatives. This research aims to determine the effect of adding natural preservative extracts on the antioxidant value, pH, sugar, and alcohol content of coconut sap by adding natural preservatives. There are five samples: pure sap (NM); sap with sugar lime (NK); sap with sugar lime and cinnamon extract (NKM); sap with sugar lime and mango leaf extract (NDM); sap with sugar lime and noni leaf extract (NKD). The study was conducted by extracting natural preservatives, namely cinnamon extract, mango leaves extract, and noni leaves extract, using the maceration method. These natural preservative extracts were mixed with Ca(OH)2 in a 1:1 ratio and dissolved in distilled water. The mixture was then mixed with the sap. The results of the antioxidant test showed that the IC50 values of the NM, NK, NKM, NDM, and NKD samples were 52.911, 144.409, 26.043, 49.275, and 24.21 ppm, respectively. The highest pH value was found in the NK sample at 13.8, and the lowest in the NM sample at 3.8. The lowest sugar content was in the NM and NDK samples, with 10.6 and 14.6%. The highest alcohol content was found in the NK and NKD samples, with alcohol contents of 14.80% and 14.20%. This study shows that adding natural preservatives such as cinnamon, mango leaves, and noni leaves can increase the antioxidant activity of coconut sap, raise its pH, and maintain its sugar content to prevent it from being reduced to alcohol.
