Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of the research was to find out the effectiveness of Four Square Writing Method in teaching analytical exposition text writing. This research used pre experimental one group pre-test post-test design. The writer used cluster random sampling in determining the sample of the research and XI MIA 1 was chosen. The data collection used writing test. The analysis of the students? results used t-test and effect size formulas. The findings showed that the t-test was higher than the ttable (13.15 > 2.750). The alternative hypothesis (Ha) ?the use of Four Square Writing Method in teaching analytical exposition text writing at the eleventh grade students is effective? was accepted. In addition, the effect size result was 2.24 (ES >0.80). Therefore, teaching analytical exposition text writing by using Four Square Writing Method was highly effective in improving students? writing achievement.   Keywords : Four Square Writing Method, Analytical Exposition Text Abstrak : Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mencari keefektifan metode Four Square Writing dalam pengajaran menulis teks eksposisi analitis. Penelitian ini menggunakan pre experimental dalam bentuk one group pre-test post-test desain. Penulis menggunakan sampel acak kelompok dalam menentukan sampel penelitian dan kelas XI MIA 1 terpilih. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes menulis. Analisis hasil siswa menggunakan rumus t-test dan efek size. Penemuan memperlihatkan nilai t-test lebih tinggi dari ttable (13.15 > 2.750). Hipotesis alternatif (Ha) ?penggunaan metode Four Square Writing dalam pengajaran menulis teks eksposisi analitis pada murid kelas sebelas adalah efektif? diterima. Sebagai tambahan, efek size perlakuan adalah 2.24 (ES >0.80). Oleh karena itu, pengajaran menulis teks eksposisi analitis menggunakan metode Four Square Writing sangat efektif dalam meningkatkan hasil kemampuan menulis siswa.   Kata Kunci : Metode Four Square Writing, Teks Eksposisi Analitis

Abstract

Abstract: This research was concerned to know the effectiveness of retelling story in improving students’ ability in speaking to the eighth grade students of SMP PGRI 4 Pontianak. The researcher found students have limitations in speaking English because students are not accustomed to speaking in English. One of the reason is the teachers do not provide enough opportunities for students to practice speaking. Retelling story is conveying events in words, images and sounds, often by improvisation. This technique can help teacher provide opportunities for students to practice. The method of this research was pre-experimental research. The researcher measured the improvement of students’ speaking ability by collecting the data through performance test. The result of the mean score of the students’ pre-test was 63.28. While the students’ mean score of post-test after the treatment was 73.20. In addition, based on the computation of t-test was higher than t-table (3.92>2.063). It showed that the alternative hypothesis was accepted and the null hypothesis was rejected. In other words, retelling story in improving students’ ability in speaking is effective. Keywords: Speaking Ability, retelling story, pre-experimental Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas teknik menceritakan ulang dalam meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara untuk siswa kelas delapan SMP PGRI 4 Pontianak. Peneliti menemukan siswa memiliki keterbatasan dalam berbahasa Inggris karena siswa tidak terbiasa berbicara dalam bahasa Inggris. Salah satu alasannya adalah guru tidak memberikan kesempatan yang cukup bagi siswa untuk berlatih berbicara. Menceritakan ulang adalah menyampaikan peristiwa dengan kata-kata, gambar dan suara yang seringkali dilakukan dengan improvisasi. Teknik ini dapat membantu guru memberikan kesempatan bagi siswa untuk berlatih. Metode dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian pre-eksperimental. Peneliti mengukur peningkatan kemampuan berbicara siswa dengan mengumpulkan data melalui tes performa. Hasil skor rata-rata pre-test siswa adalah 63,28. Sementara nilai rata-rata siswa dari post-test setelah treatment adalah 73,20. Selain itu, berdasarkan perhitungan t-tes lebih tinggi dari t-tabel (3,92> 2,063). Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa hipotesis alternatif diterima dan hipotesis nol ditolak. Dengan kata lain, cerita menceritakan kembali dalam meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara efektif. Abstract

AbstractThe research was conducted based on the problem that found in teaching and learning process. From the observation in the pre-research, it was found that the students were uninterested in learning reading in English subject. The researcher did the appropriate way to overcome the problem. The researcher did a classroom action research (CAR) and tried flash animation to improve students motivation in especially reading narrative text. The participants of this research were 31 students on the tenth of class B. The research was conducted through classroom action research in two cycles. The research used observation checklist, field note, and questionnaires to collect the data. The use flash animation show that the students? motivation slightly improve. The class became relax, enjoy and easily controlled by the teacher. As the results, the students' motivation improved by using the flash animation media. The results of questionnaires also showed that with questions that given the average of students agreed that the flash animation improved their motivation. The students mean score also showed 52 that categorized average to good. The teacher also agree that students problem in motivation was solved by used flash animation. In conclusion, flash animation improved students? motivation in learning reading narrative. Keywords: Flash Animation, Motivation, Narrative Text, Reading Comprehension.

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian yang berjudul Peningkatan Kosakata Siswa Melalui Quartet Picture (PTK yang dilaksanakan pada Kelas III di SD Plus Bina Empat Lima Pontianak pada Tahun Akademik 2012/ 2013) bertujuan unmtuk meningkatkan kosakata siswa terutama pada topik kata benda Nama-nama Profesi. Penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas yang dilakukan dalam dua siklus. Subjek penelitian ini adalah kelas III A di SD Plus Bina Empat Lima Pontianak tahun akademik 2012/ 2013. Data dikumpulkan melalui ceklis observasi, tes kosakata dan catatan lapangan. Data tersebut kemudian dianalisa dengan mendeskripsikan ceklis observasi dan catatatan lapangan dan menggunakan rumus untuk mencari nilai rata-rata siswa. Hasil temuan pda penelitian ini menunjukkan peningkatan penguasaan kosakata terutama topik kata benda Nama-nama Profesi siswa dalam dua siklus yang telah meningkat. Nilai rata-rata pada siklus pertama adalah 97.65 dan 99.05 pada siklus kedua. Kata kunci : Penguasaan Kosakata dan Quartet Picture Abstract: This research Improving Students Vocabulary Mastery through Quartet Picture (A Classroom Action Research to the Third Grade Students at SD Plus Bina Empat Lima Pontianak In Academic Year 2012/ 2013) was intended to improve students vocabulary mastery especially in vocabulary of noun Name of Profession. It was a Classroom Action Research which was conducted in two cycles. The subject of this research was students of III A in SD Plus Bina Empat Lima Pontianak In Academic Year 2012/ 2013 which cosisted of 24 students. The data was collected by using observation checklist, students measurement test and field note. It was analyzed by describing the observation checklist and fieldnote, and by using formula of mean score. The findings indicated the vocabulary mastery especially in vocabulary of noun Name of Profession improved through Quartet Picture. The students mean score in the first cycle was 97.65, and it was 99.05 in the second cycle. Key words: Vocabulary Mastery and Quartet Picture

Abstract

Abstract: This research is concerned with finding how well RAFT strategy improved students’ hortatory exposition text writing skill in terms of correctness of writing simple present tense and writing complete text organization of hortatory exposition text. The purpose is to improve students’ ability in writing hortatory exposition text. The method of this research was classroom action research. The subjects of this research were 32 students at the second semester of the eleventh grade students of SMAN 7 Pontianak in academic year 2013/2014. Based on the data analysis, the result of the research was progress. It is showed that the students’ mean score for writing hortatory exposition improved from 69.63 (average) in the first cycle to 79.90 (good) in the second cycle. Based on the result of the data analysis, the writer took a conclusion that RAFT strategy is work well in improving students’ ability in writing hortatory exposition text.   Keywords: RAFT strategy, hortatory exposition text, writing     Abstrak: penelitian ini merupakan penelitian mengenai penemuan seberapa baik strategi RAFT meningkatkan keterampilan menulis text hortatory siswa dalam hubungan kebenaran menulis tenses simple present dan teks organisasi yang lengkap dari teks hortatory eksposisi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks hortatory eksposisi. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah 32 orang siswa kelas XI IPA semester 2 dari SMAN 7 Pontianak tahun akademik 2013/2014. Berdasarkan data analisis, hasilnya menunjukkan peningkatan. Hal tersebut dibuktikan dari nilai rata-rata siswa dalam menulis teks hortatory eksposisi yang meningkat dari 69.63(sedang) di lingkaran pertama menjadi 79.90 (baik) dilingkaran kedua. Berdasarkan hasil data analisis, penulis mengambil kesimpulan bahwa strategi RAFT bekerja dengan baik dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa dalam teks hortatory eksposisi. Abstract

Abstract: This thesis discusses about the animated fable video which is used as teaching media in teaching narrative text writing. The problem of this research is: How effective is the use of animated fable video in teaching narrative text writing of tenth grade students of SMA Mujahidin Pontianak? The design of this research is a pre-experimental study.The sample of the research is the X MIA 2 class of SMA Mujahidin Pontianak which included 32 students. The researcher used t-table to measure the significance of teaching by using animated fable video in teaching narrative text writing and the result of t-value 9.28 is higher than t-table 2.000 on the level significance 5%. The researcher also used effect size (ES) to analyze the effectiveness of using animated fable video in teaching narrative text writing and the result of the ES is 1.58 is categorized “High”. Based on the result the use of the animated fable video in teaching narrative text writing to the tenth grade students of SMA Mujahidin Pontianak is highly effective. Key words : Animated fable video, narrative writing   Abstrak: Skripsi ini membahas tentang video animasi hewan yang digunakan sebagai media dalam mengajar  penulisan teks naratif. Permasalahan dalam penelitian ini adalah: Bagaimana keefektifitasan dari penggunaan video animasi hewan dalam mengajar penulisan teks naratif pada siswa kelas sepuluh SMA Mujahidin Pontianak? Desain dari penelitian ini adalah pre-experimental. Sampel penelitian adalah kelas X MIA 2 SMA Mujahidin Pontianak yang terdiri dari 32 siswa. Peneliti menggunakan t-tabel 2.000 pada level signifikan 5%. Peneliti juga menggunakan effect size (ES) untuk menganalisa keefektifitasan penggunaan video animasi hewan dalam mengajar penulisan teks naratif dan hasil dari effect size (ES) adalah 1.58 sehingga dapat dikategorikan “Tinggi”. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, penggunaan video animasi hewan dalam mengajar penulisan teks naratif pada kelas sepuluh SMA Mujahidin Pontianak dikategorikan memiliki level keefektifitasan yang tinggi. Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to describe student’s Fluency in playing drama on the sixth semester student of English Education Study Program Tanjungpura University. Fluency in speaking is important to consider in understanding the meaning what to say to build the good communication. In Drama, Fluency clearly has a role to deliver the message to audience. This research involves one group that consists of 5 students. The researcher applied descriptive method in qualitative and quantitative. The data of this research were obtained by observation trough video and analyze the script of each conversation in every scene. There were six aspects that writer focused on this research. They were Smoothness, Confidence, Accuracy, Expression, Space and Rate. Keywords: speaking, fluency, drama Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mendeskribsikan pelafalan siswa berbicara dalam drama pada siswa semester VI Pendidikan Program Bahasa Inggris di Universitas Tanjungpura. Pelafalan dalam berbicara sangatlah penting untuk diperhatikan dalam pemahaman maksud yang disampaikan untuk membangun komunikasi yang baik. Dalam drama, pelafalan sangatlah jelas mempunyai peran penting dalam menyampaikan pesan kepada penonton. Penelitian melibatkan satu kelompok yang terdiri dari 5 siswa. Peneliti mengaplikasikan metode descriptive dalam kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Data dari penelitian ini dieroleh dari observasi melalui video dan menganalisa setiap percakapan dalam naskah pada setiap adegan. Di dalam penelitian ini, peneliti focus terhadap 6 aspek Pelafalan. Aspek-aspek tersebut yaitu Kelembutan, Kepercayaan diri, Ketepatan, Ekspresi, Ruang dan Rasio. Kata kunci: berbicara, pelafalan, drama

Abstract

Abstarct: This research aims to find out errors in constructing content question made by the eleventh grade students of students SMK Bina Putra Sungai Raya Pontianak, to identify the type of errors in constructing content question and to investigate the percentage of the type of error in constructing content question. The method of research that used is a descriptive method. The technique of data collecting is a measurement technique. Sample of the research is 25 students. After having conducted the research, the writer found some fact that the eleventh grade stutents of SMK Bina Putra Pontianak made some errors in constructing content question, most of students could constructed content question well although there were some students still made some errors in constructing content question, there are five aspect that writer analized, those are question word, Auxiliary, Verb, Auxiliary, To be and Compliment. Most of the students made errors in constructing content question, especially in auxilliary and complement aspects with percentage 73% and 64%, that is High. These errors cover on four types of error, they are error of ommision, addition, substitution and ordering. The error of substitution is the most common error of all. Key word: Analysis, Error, Constructing, Content Question   Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan kesalahan siswa kelas XI SMK Bina Putra Sungai Raya Pontianak dalam membuat content question, untuk mengidentifikasi tipe kesalahan dalam membuat content quention, dan untuk mengetahui persentase kesalahan dalam membuat content quention. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif. Sedangkan teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik pengukuran. Penelitian ini menggunakan sampel yang berjumlah 25 siswa. Setelah melakukan penelitian penulis menemukan beberapa fakta bahwa siswa kelas XI SMK Bina Putra Pontianak melakukan beberapa kesalahan dalam membuat content quention. Kebanyakan siswa bisa membuat content quention dengan baik, akan tetapi ada beberapa siswa yang masih melakukan beberapa kesalahan dalam membuat content quention.  Ada lima aspek yang penulis analisis, yaitu question word, Auxiliary, Verb, Auxiliary, To be dan Compliment. Kebanyakan siswa membuat kesalahan pada aspek Auxiliary dan Compliment dengan persentase 73% dan 64% dengan kualifikasi tinggi. Kategori kesalahan mencakup empat tipe kesalahan, yaitu ommision, addition, substitution and ordering. Tipe kesalahan subtitution adalah tipe kesalahan yang sering dilakukan oleh siswa. Abstract

Improving Students Ability in Speaking about Asking and Giving Opinion through Guided Conversations is a Classroom Action Research at Eighth Grade B Students of SMP N 21 Terpadu Pontianak in Academic Year 2011/2012. The aim of this research is to know how guided conversations improve students ability in speaking about asking and giving opinion. The researcher used classroom action research as the method of this research. Based on the analysis of the students test result, the writer describes the qualification of students mean score in second cycles (70.8) which reached 100% of achievement score is Good to Excellent. Key Word: speaking, asking and giving opinion, guided conversations Abstrak: Meningkatkan Kemampuan Siswa dalam Berbicara mengenai Meminta dan Memberikan Pendapat menggunakan Percakapan-percakapan Terpandu adalah sebuah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas pada Siswa Kelas Delapan B di SMP N 21 Terpadu Pontianak Tahun Ajaran 2011/2012. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana percakapan-percakapan terpandu meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara mengenai meminta dan memberikan pendapat. Peneliti menggunakan penelitian tindakan kelas sebagai metode dalam penelitian ini. Berdasarkan analisa pada hasil test siswa, penulis menyimpulkan bahwa kualifikasi nilai rata-rata siswa pada putaran kedua (70,8) yang mana mencapai nilai ketuntasan 100% dikategorikan Good to Excellent. Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam pengucapan bahasa Inggris dalam bentuk teks pendek dengan menggunakan tekhnik membaca nyaring. Penelitian ini adalah sebuah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas yang dilaksanakan dalam tiga siklus. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah kelas VIII SMP Pelita Ngabang Kab.Landak Provinsi Kalimantan Barat, yang terdiri dari 25 siswa. Data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui ceklis observasi, catatan lapangan, dan tes. Data tersebut dianalisa dengan mendiskripsikan ceklis observasi dan catatan lapangan, dan menggunakan rumus mencari nilai rata-rata. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kemampuan siswa dalam pengucapan meningkat dari tiap siklusnyamelalui tekhnik membaca nyaring dengan skor rata-rata pada siklus ke tiga yaitu 76,6 dan masuk dalam kategori cukup bagus. It is a Classroom Action Research which is conducted in three cycles. The subject of this research is grade VIII, which is consists 25 students. The result indicate the students pronunciation in short text improve of each cycle by using reading aloud,it can be seen from the mean score on the third cycle was 76.6, it was categorized as good.
