Abstract

Language sound errors at the phonological level. Phonemes or language sounds in Indonesian consist of vowels, consonants, diphthongs 'double vowels', and clusters 'consonant groups'. Differences in phonemes will change standard language varieties into non-standard ones. Phonological problems occur because vowel, consonant or diphthong phonemes change into other phonemes, thereby changing standard language into non-standard ones. This research aims to analyze language sound errors, namely deletions, additions and changes in vowel phonemes, consonant phonemes, combined vowel phonemes and combined consonant phonemes. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The data collection technique for this research is by listening and using the language watched in Indonesian television advertisements. This data analysis technique consists of (1) data collection (2) data reduction, (3) data presentation (4) interesting conclusions. The results of data analysis of Indonesian language sound errors in Television Advertisements are language sound errors in Indonesian consisting of vowels, consonants, diphthongs 'double vowels', and 'consonant clusters' clusters due to errors in language use that do not match Indonesian Spelling (EBI) . Errors in Indonesian sounds or pronunciation that occur in television advertisements like this occur due to ignorance or on purpose so that the advertisement displayed will attract the attention of consumers or people who see, watch and listen to it.

Abstract

Suprasegmentals are language sounds that accompany phonemes, which can be in the form of sound pressure, length-shortness, and sound vibrations associated with speech segments. Suprasegmentals in this study includes the frequency, intensity, and duration of the sounds produced. This study aims to analyze the differences in frequency, intensity, and duration of the sounds produced by male and female speakers in pronouncing Toba Batak imperative sentences, namely: “beta hita tu topi tao!” which means ‘let's go to the lakeside!’. This research method uses an instrumental approach by maximizing Praat software in analyzing frequency, intensity, and duration. The population and sample taken in this study is the voice of one native male and female speaker. The results of the analysis of this study show, namely: (1) the frequency of male speakers' voices is lower than female speakers; (2) the intensity of male speakers' voices is smaller than female speakers; and (3) the duration of male speakers' voices takes longer than female speakers to say the sentence. From this research, it can be seen that male and female voice differences have relevance to suprasegmental because both focus on the nonsegmental aspects of language, which play an important role in verbal communication. Keywords: suprasegmentals, frequency, duration, intensity

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the prosody of speech by the head of state related to the answer to the question that has recently gone viral and trending is President Jokowi's speech answer to the question on YouTube, with the title "Why the Capital City Not Move to Papua?". The head of state of the Republic of Indonesia (Joko Widodo) used data in the form of speech related to the conversation.  The utterances were obtained from a video titled "Why the Capital City Did Not Move to Papua? Moreover, it is downloaded from YouTube. Then, the data is selected from several sentences President Joko Widodo spoke. The voice data will be extracted and coded at the analysis stage using Praat 6.0.54 (1). This research was conducted because, until now, the study of acoustic phonetics has rarely been done. On the other hand, phonetic descriptions, especially acoustic phonetic descriptions, namely the intonation and intensity of President JokoWidodo's speech, are important to study. The purpose of this study is to physically document sound, preservation, teaching, and language dignity in the midst of the symptoms of language shift. This study is an effort that is in line with the scientific aspects of phonetics and maintaining language heritage in terms of speech. This study's results prove differences in acoustic values in the measurement results of the data "Jokowi's Answer Asked by Elementary School Children Why the Capital City is Not in Papua" on the VIVA.CO.ID YouTube account. All acoustic features were measured, namely frequency, duration, pressure, and intensity. From the analysis results, it can be concluded that the resulting tone contour shows two patterns: the rising and descending patterns. The rising pattern at the end of the utterance indicates that the utterance is unfinished, while the falling pattern at the end explains that the utterance's intonation is final. In addition, there are many increases in frequency and intensity in the data, where the increase mostly occurs when Mr. Jokowi mentions the words "Papua," "Aceh," "Sabang," "Marauke," "Capital," "North," "South," "Gitu," and "Yes."

Abstract

The advent of social media has led to changes in the way people communicate. One such change is in the usage of memes, especially among the younger generation. With Gen Z and Millennials making up over 50% of the voters in the 2024 Indonesian presidential election, memes became one way they voiced their opinions on the televised debates held prior to the election. This research aimed to find out how intertextuality impacted the meaning of political memes about the 2024 Indonesian presidential candidate debates. This research employed the qualitative method. The critical discourse analysis by Fairclough was used to analyze the data. The memes were limited only to those that referenced works of literature that were uploaded on the social media platform X on the day of or the day after the first, third, and fifth presidential debates. The findings indicated that intertextuality in memes added a layer of complexity and nuance that allowed the creators to criticize the candidates implicitly through humor, thus circumventing censorship and IET laws. The memes functioned as a mode of political advocacy and public discussion, mainly in the form of criticism of the candidates’ actions during the debates. Criticism of the first and third debates likely contributed to the calmer proceedings of the final debate.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the representation and function of religious archetypes in the movie My Name Is Khan, directed by Karan Johar and written by Shibani Bathija. Employing Carl Gustav Jung’s archetype theory and Claude Lévi-Strauss’ structuralism as analytical frameworks, this research identifies the recurring religious archetypes that shape the characters and moral structures within the film. The qualitative method was used, focusing on textual and contextual analysis of dialogues and scenes from the movie that reflect archetypal elements. The findings reveal six dominant archetypes—The Great Mother, The Wise Old Man, The Hero, The Angel, The Caregiver, and Sufism. Each archetype serves to strengthen the film’s moral and spiritual message about humanity, compassion, and religious tolerance. The film not only reflects universal archetypal values but also offers a humanistic portrayal of faith amid discrimination. Ultimately, this research demonstrates that My Name Is Khan transcends religious narratives by portraying spiritual resilience, empathy, and universal values of goodness. Keywords: Religious archetypes, structuralism, Jungian theory, spirituality, My Name Is Khan.
