Abstract

This study aims to identify the character education values present in the book Al-Hikam by Sheikh Ibn 'Athaillah through the application of Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic approach. This text was selected due to its rich moral and spiritual teachings, which remain pertinent to the development of human character today. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, this research utilizes Peirce's triadic semiotic analysis technique, which encompasses three components: representamen, object, and interpretant. The data analyzed include eight wisdoms purposively selected from Al-Hikam. The findings indicate that Al-Hikam encompasses character education values that address individual, social, and transcendental dimensions. Through Peirce's semiotic framework, the wisdoms in this book can be interpreted as a system of signs conveying profound moral and spiritual messages. Key values identified include sincerity, tawakkal (trust in God), patience, self-reflection, trustworthiness, contentment, and asceticism, which are essential in the cultivation of Islamic character. This research contributes to the integration of classical Islamic heritage into contemporary character education development. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter yang terdapat dalam kitab Al-Hikam karya Syekh Ibnu ‘Athaillah dengan menggunakan pendekatan Semiotika dari Charles Sanders Peirce. Kitab ini dipilih karena berisi banyak ajaran moral dan spiritual yang masih relevan untuk membentuk karakter manusia di masa sekarang. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik analisis semiotik triadik Peirce, yaitu terdiri dari tiga unsur: representamen, objek, dan interpretan. Data yang dianalisis berupa 8 hikmah terpilih dari Al-Hikam secara purposif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kitab al-Ḥikam mengandung nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter yang mencakup aspek individu, sosial, dan transendental. Melalui pendekatan semiotika Charles Sanders Peirce, hikmah-hikmah dalam kitab ini dapat dianalisis sebagai sistem tanda yang mengandung pesan moral dan spiritual yang mendalam. Nilai-nilai seperti ikhlas, tawakkal, sabar, muhasabah, amanah, qana’ah, dan zuhud, teridentifikasi sebagai unsur penting dalam pembentukan karakter Islami. Penelitian ini berkontribusi pada pemanfaatan warisan klasik Islam dalam pengembangan pendidikan karakter di masa sekarang.

Abstract

The focus of this study is related to the translation techniques of Covid-19 terms from Arabic language into Indonesian language and one of its regional languages, Sundanese. The translation materials are the learning material texts submitted by students on WhatsApp. This study uses a comparative descriptive method to analyze the transformation of vocabularies or terms in Arabic into Indonesian and one its regional language, Sundanese. Regarding the texts, no different from any translation of other texts, the techniques used that can be observed here are pure borrowing or literal translation, naturalized borrowing, and established equivalent. The technique of pure borrowing seems to be done as the last resort; words, such as virus, corona, internet, soap and bacteria, are not terms familiar for everyday conversation in these languages. Even more, other words, such as frustrasi, depresi, ahli jiwa ‘frustration, depression, psychiatrist’, have no equivalents in Sundanese. Consequently, these words are not translated in Sundanese text, but taken as they are. Comparing the translation results from Arabic into Indonesian and Sundanese gives us information that very often to use the terms as used in the Indonesian language is the only option the Sundanese students might have.

Abstract

This study examines Aulād Ḥāratinā by Najib Mahfouz through Lucien Goldmann’s Genetic Structuralism to reveal the socio-religious meanings and the author’s worldview reflected in the narrative structure. The study of modern Arabic literature is significant as literary works function not only as aesthetic expressions but also as reflections of social and ideological dynamics within society. Previous studies have largely focused on the novel’s religious allegory, while analyses connecting narrative structure with the author’s collective consciousness remain limited. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method using close reading techniques of the novel text. The findings show that the narrative structure constructs socio-religious meanings through recurring conflict patterns representing the evolution of human values, while the author’s worldview reflects a critical perspective on moral cycles, power structures, and modernity. This study contributes to modern Arabic literary studies by demonstrating that literary works can be understood as reflections of social consciousness as well as critical responses to historical realities.

Abstract

Low quantitative literacy and mathematical problem-solving skills among Indonesian students are the background for this study. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of using worksheets based on Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) and worksheets based on Ethnomathematics in improving the quantitative literacy and mathematical problem-solving skills of high school students in spatial geometry. This study used a quantitative experimental method with a posttest control group design involving two treatment groups. The research sample consisted of 100 high school students divided into two treatment groups, one group using RME-based worksheets and one group using ethnomathematics-based worksheets. The research instruments were quantitative literacy tests and mathematical problem-solving ability tests on spatial geometry material. The results showed that students who learned using RME-based worksheets obtained significantly higher quantitative literacy and mathematical problem-solving ability scores than students who learned using ethnomathematics-based worksheets. MANOVA analysis followed by univariate ANOVA confirmed significant differences in both variables. In conclusion, RME-based worksheets are more effective than ethnomathematics-based worksheets in improving quantitative literacy and mathematical problem-solving skills in spatial geometry.

Abstract

Pendidikan adalah hal mendasar yg harus dipenuhi oleh anak. Dalam kajian ini akan difokuskan pada pendidikan yang layak untuk anak atau biasa dikenal dengan pendidikan yang ramah untuk anak, terutama pendidikan akhlak bagi anak melalui pembelajaran hadis. Pendidikan pada anak dapat dilakukan sesuai kebutuhan dan hak anak, baik secara materi maupun caranya. Tujuan kajian ini adalah mengungkapkan upaya pendidikan akhlak pada anak dengan cara yang ramah; menjelaskan pembelajaran hadis tentang akhlak sebagai upaya pendidikan akhlak yang baik untuk anak. Penelitian ini adalah menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan  metode  kajian pustaka (library research) Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pendekatan ramah anak dalam pembelajaran hadis akhlak efektif membentuk karakter anak melalui penerapan prinsip sekolah ramah anak yang menciptakan lingkungan belajar inklusif dan menyenangkan, dan penyampaian materi hadis akhlak dengan metode yang sesuai perkembangan anak.Penelitian ini dapat menggambarkan bahwa pembelajaran hadis tentang akhlak dapat diwujudkan melalui pendekatan ramah untuk membentuk akhlak anak.
