Abstract

The condition of the Karang Mumus River has been decreased from the water quality and physical condition of the river This situation has become the main focus of the government in an effort to restore the function and environment of the river as a source of meeting water needs in East Kalimantan. Community service activities aim to provide examples to the community through activities to restore the area around the river by sowing tree seeds that will be planted along the riverbanks with the Karang Mumus River Trash Pickup Movement Community which initiated the movement to save the river from ecological crisis. The method of approach is observation by discussing and interviewing information from environmental activists about SeSuKaMu, then analyzed descriptively. Community service activities such as the SeSuKaMu reforestation restoration carried out by the Community Service Team of the FISIP UNMUL Bachelor of Public Administration Study Program together with community resulted in outcomes in the form of the formation of environmental awareness and increasing community education on the importance of river conservation through activities to reforest the riverbank area and sowing tree seeds.

Abstract

Sungai Karang Mumus merupakan salah satu sungai di Kota Samarinda yang mengalami pencemaran yang diakibatkan oleh banyak faktor yaitu perilaku masyarakat yang masih membuang sampah ke sungai juga faktor iklim pasang surut yang mengakibatkan adanya sampah kiriman. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut dengan menggalakan kegiatan memungut sampah bersama Kelompok Gerakan Memungut Sehelai Sampah Sungai Karang Mumus (GMSS-SKM). Metode pendekatan yang dilakukan yaitu dengan melakukan observasi dan wawancara dengan informan tentang asal mula komunitas didirikan dan bagaimana bentuk pengelolaan lingkungan yang dilakukan di Sungai Karang Mumus. Kegiatan ini menyasar mahasiswa dan alumni sebagai bagian dari civitas akademika sekaligus masyarakat setempat. Kegiatan ini menghasilkan luaran berupa terbentuknya kepedulian lingkungan dan juga meningkatkan edukasi masyarakat akan pentingnya menjaga kebersihan lingkungan sekitar. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kepedulian mahasiswa dan alumni sebagai bagian dari civitas akademika dan masyarakat sekitar Sungai Karang Mumus.

Abstract

The waste problem in the Karang Mumus River cannot be said to be resolved. This is caused by several factors, namely: there are still many people who live on the banks of the Karang Mumus River and carry out all their daily activities, causing the river's function to decline and there are also still people who throw rubbish out of place. Therefore, this service research aims to contribute to carrying out waste collection activities. The approach method used is by conducting observations and interviews with informants about the origins of the community and the form of environmental management carried out on the Karang Mumus River. At the end of the activity, monitoring and evaluation was carried out to increase public awareness. The results of this service activity provide an example to the community around the Karang Mumus River and the entire community to get used to living a healthy life by paying attention to the surrounding environment, namely by throwing rubbish in its place, using goods and implementing them. environmentally friendly activities. Community Service Activities for the Bachelor of Public Administration Study Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Mulawarman University, together with the community of the Movement to Pick Up a Piece of Garbage from the Karang Mumus River, are expected to increase awareness of students and alumni as part of the academic community and around the Karang Mumus River community.
