Abstract

Abstract: This study examines how religious values, social norms, and cultural expectations influence public perceptions of preacher attire in regions deeply rooted in local traditions. A qualitative approach was employed, utilizing in-depth interviews and participatory observation for data collection. The research sample consisted of purposefully selected local community members from diverse age groups and social backgrounds. The findings indicate that preacher fashion in South Tapanuli is perceived as a reflection of religious devotion and personal integrity. Traditional clothing styles, along with accessories such as the peci and sarong, symbolize commitment to Islamic principles and respect for local customs. However, some view certain aspects of preacher attire as a marker of exclusivity or social status. Overall, the community perceives preacher fashion as a bridge between religious identity and local culture, serving as both a medium for da’wah and a representation of social values.Keywords: Islamic propagation, Da’i, Perception, Fashion, Southern Tapanuli, Non-verbal Communication

Abstract

The emergence of TikTok social media can be used as a tool to improve personal branding. Although many students use this application, not all use it to build personal branding. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the use of TikTok social media and strategies in improving the personal branding of students of the Islamic Communication and Broadcasting Study Program, Syekh Ali Hasan Ahmad Addary Islamic State University, Padangsidimpuan. The method used in this study is qualitative descriptive with the theory of personal branding self prasentation from Tom Peters as the knife of analysis. The results of this study found that the use of TikTok social media is still not effective in building personal branding by students and the tendency to use TikTok without the right strategy. The significance of this finding indicates that TikTok is not used to build personal branding of students that matches the profile of their graduates, only 13 out of 45 informants are active in creating personal branding content that is in accordance with the profile of graduates. This study recommends the importance of strengthening the skills of students of the Islamic Communication and Broadcasting Study Program, Syekh Ali Hasan Ahmad Addary Islamic State University, Padangsidimpuan to manage TikTok social media through the content of practicum courses and practices directly in the laboratory.

Abstract

This article aims to discuss the contestation of discourse in improving the nation's morality between two movements: the Mental Revolution—an initiative to reform the nation's character through modernization of mindset and work ethic, introduced by President Joko Widodo—and the Akhlak Revolution, a da'wah movement advocating the restoration of individual morality based on Islamic values, popularized by Habib Rizieq Shihab. The analysis in this article employs a political approach grounded in Michel Foucault's postmodern theoretical framework, which provides the basis for the discussion. The contestation between the two revolutions reflects ideological differences and power dynamics that shape the discourse on morality in society. Using a qualitative-interpretive research method, data were collected from YouTube using digital documentation techniques and analyzed through source triangulation validity testing, as proposed by Miles and Huberman. The findings reveal both conceptual and practical distinctions between the Mental Revolution and the Akhlak Revolution. The Mental Revolution is viewed as more pragmatic, grounded in state policies targeting civil servants and the bureaucracy, whereas the Akhlak Revolution emphasizes individual moral improvement through a religious framework. From a Foucauldian perspective, this distinction illustrates two forms of disciplinary power: the state exerts control through formal policy, while religious institutions influence morality through social norms and values. Although both initiatives offer responses to moral degradation, each has also faced criticism and resistance. This article argues for the need for synergy between state and religious approaches to promote more comprehensive moral transformation within society.

Abstract

Communication ethics are important, but many Instagram media users ignore them in the digital age. This study analyzes the message between content creators and followers, the reasons netizens comment, and the importance of maintaining Islamic communication ethics in commenting on Instagram. Using a qualitative approach with interactive analysis (Miles and Huberman), data were collected through observation and interviews with followers. The study results show that communication between content creators and followers involves exchanging messages through content such as videos and photos. Many negative comments arise due to dissatisfaction with the expression of content, but some netizens give positive views because of the motivation in learning the recitation. This study emphasizes the importance of six Islamic communication principles (qawlan sadidan, qawlan baligha, qawlan ma'rufa, qawlan kariman, qawlan layyina, qawlan maysura) to maintain communication ethics and harmonious relationships on social media.

Abstract

Media sosial menjadi kekuatan besar yang mengubah dinamika kehidupan manusia. Media sosial tidak hanya menjadi alat promosi dan informasi tetapi juga membentuk identitas politik perempuan, membantu mereka mengatasi stereotip yang melemahkan. Artikel ini mengkaji dampak penggunaan media sosial Instagram oleh politisi perempuan setelah terpilih menjadi pejabat publik. Melalui penelitian kualitatif, peneliti menganalisis konten foto dan video yang diunggah oleh politisi perempuan pada akun Instagram pribadi mereka. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa setelah menjadi pejabat publik para politisi perempuan tetap aktif dalam menggunakan media sosial Instagram. Selain aktifitas politik, konten pribadi seperti foto keluarga juga sering diunggah sehingga menciptakan narasi identitas yang kompleks. Politisi perempuan tidak hanya menjaga integritas politik tetapi juga menunjukkan kehidupan pribadi sebagai upaya untuk menghilangkan stereotip tradisional. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi tentang bagaimana media sosial, khususnya Instagram, dapat menjadi alat penting dalam pembentukan identitas politik perempuan di Indonesia.

Abstract

Whatsapp memberikan fitur emoticon mewakili emosi saat bertukar pesan sehingga tercipta komunikasi yang menyenangkan. Namun, pengguna whatsapp sering menggunakan emoticon yang salah untuk menanggapi situasi tertentu. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kesalahan makna dalam penggunaan emoticon aplikasi whatsapp pada mahasiswa, apa faktor penyebab kesalahan makna dan bagaimana efek yang ditimbulkan atas kesalahan makna tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode desktiptif kualitatif dengan sumber data primer yaitu percakapan whatsapp grup mahasiswa Komunikasi dan Penyiaran Islam Fakultas Dakwah dan Ilmu Komunikasi UIN Syekh Ali Hasan Ahmad Addary Padangsidimpuan NIM 2020 hingga 2021. Metode pengumpulan data meliputi observasi digital dan wawancara tidak terstruktur dengan mahasiswa. Data yang terkumpul telah diuji keabsahan data secara triangulasi sumber. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa: Pertama, faktor yang mempengaruhi terjadinya kesalahan makna dalam penggunaan emoticon pada aplikasi Whatsapp disebabkan oleh ketidakmengertian (misunderstanding) makna sesungguhnya dari emoticon. Penyebab lain kesalahan makna terjadi karena pengguna whatsapp memiliki anggapan bahwa emoticon mewakili (representatif) perasaan dan trend remaja masa kini sehingga para pengguna emoticon mengabaikan makna yang sebenarnya. Temuan kedua dari penelitian ini bahwa efek dari kesalahan penggunaan emoticon dapat menyebabkan komunikasi yang tidak efektif dan komunikan anggota grup lainnya malas untuk membalas pesan.

Abstract

AbstractThis research aims to analyze the phenomenon of religious conversion in theory and practice. This research uses library research in answering two main questions, namely how is the academic debate and case study of conversion of Islam and Christianity? The authors found that the factors that influence the process of religious conversion are caused by internal factors in the individual such as frustration, soul shocks, damaged souls and spiritual experiences. External factors such as the influence of the social environment, organization, peers, and marriage. This academic debate about religious conversion has started from William James (1958) with the theory of conversion as the healing of a divided self until Henri Gooren (2010) with the theory of the conversion career. Finally, the case of religious conversion to Islam is not through mental disorders, violence and coercion, but with full awareness. However, converts to Christianity are often followed by cases of violence, coercion, and mental disorders. Keywords: Religious conversion, Conversion Career. AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis fenomena konversi agama dalam teori dan praktik.  Penelitian ini menggunakan library research dalam menjawab dua pertanyaan pokok, yaitu bagaimana perdebatan akademis dan studi kasus konversi agama Islam dan Kristen? Penulis menemukan bahwa faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi proses konversi agama disebabkan oleh faktor-faktor internal dalam diri individual seperti frustasi, guncangan jiwa, jiwa yang rusak dan pengalaman spiritual. Adapun faktor eksternal seperti pengaruh lingkungan sosial, organisasi, teman sejawat, dan perkawinan. Perdebatan akademis tentang konversi agama ini telah mulai sejak masa William James (1958) dengan teori Conversion as the Healing of a Divided Self sampai Henri Gooren (2010) dengan teori The Conversion Career. Terakhir, kasus konversi agama ke Islam tidak melalui gangguan-gangguan mental, kekerasan dan pemaksaan, namun dengan kesadaran penuh. Namun, pelaku konversi agama ke Kristen seringkali diikuti oleh kasus-kasus kekerasan, pemaksaan, dan gangguan mental. Kata kunci: Konversi agama, Karier konversi.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of understanding of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 3 Central Tapanuli students about religious moderation, religious literacy, and response to the issue of radicalism in the madrasah environment. The research approach uses a qualitative method strengthened with quantitative data through the distribution of a Likert scale questionnaire to 25 grade XII students. The data was analyzed descriptively by reviewing four main indicators: religious moderation, religious literacy, radicalism and attitudes towards differences, as well as social media and digital moderation. The results of the study showed that all aspects were in the "Agree" category with an average score above 3.9, indicating students' positive attitudes towards the values of moderation, tolerance, and digital religiosity. Community service programs implemented through the blended learning model  have proven to be effective in increasing students' awareness of religious moderation and religious literacy. These findings show a strong relationship between religious literacy and moderate attitudes in rejecting radicalism. Students with high literacy levels are more critical of religious content and are able to select information wisely on social media. This study recommends strengthening the religious moderation curriculum and religious digital literacy training to strengthen the ideological resilience of madrasah students in the digital era.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the opportunities and challenges in the use of animated films as a medium to instill religious moderation in Indonesia. The method used in this research is literature research by analyzing the results of research, legal text, and information related to religious moderation and animated film media. The results found that Indonesia has a great opportunity to utilize information and multimedia technology, especially in producing animated films. The opportunity can be detailed that Indonesia has a technology infrastructure that is almost evenly distributed in all corners of the country, rich in local culture and wisdom, and has reliable human resources in the field of multimedia technology. On the other hand, the rapid flow of information containing religious conservatism through online media and television media dominated by violence is a challenge for the Government of Indonesia. The ideology of religious moderation must be packaged creatively and attract the interest of the audience. Thus, understand the moderation of religion that is expected to be ingrained in the life of the nation and state.Keyword :

Abstract

AbstrakArtikel ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengembangan ekonomi masyarakat berbasis rumah kos di Keluarahan Sihitang, Kota Padangsidimpuan. Penelitian yang berfokus pada perubahan ekonomi bagi pemilik usaha rumah kos masih terbatas dan memiliki karakteristik yang berbeda-beda di berbagai daerah. Dengan menggunakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif, peneliti mewawancarai sembilan orang informan yang memiliki rumah kos, yaitu kepala lingkungan, masyarakat, dan mahasiswa. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa pengembangan ekonomi masyarakat melalui pengembangan usaha rumah kos menjadi urgen karena ada potensi dan kebutuhan yang besar untuk kos mahasiswa. Keberadaan rumah kos memiliki dampak terhadap kehidupan ekonomi dimana terdapat peralihan aktivitas ekonomi masyarakat pemilik usaha rumah kos, terbuka peluang untuk meningkatkan pendapatan bagi masyarakat dengan membuka usaha lain yang diintegrasikan dengan usaha rumah kos, dan terpenuhinya pengeluaran masyarakat untuk memenuhi kebutuhan dasar. Penelitian ini menekankan pada peran penting stakeholder dan merekomendasikan untuk meningkatkan fasilitas rumah kos serta melakukan pembinaan sehingga tercipta rumah kos yang layak di Kota Padangsidimpuan. Kata kunci: Dampak Ekonomi, Rumah Kost, Pengembangan Ekonomi. AbstractThis article analyzes the economic development of the boarding house-based community in Sihitang Village, Padangsidimpuan City. Research focusing on economic changes for boarding house business owners is still limited and has different characteristics in various regions. Using a descriptive qualitative research method, the researcher interviewed nine informants who owned boarding house businesses: the head of the neighborhood, the community, and students. The study results found that the community's economic development through the development of the boarding house business is urgent because there is great potential and need for student boarding houses. The existence of boarding houses has an impact on economic life where there is a shift in the economic activities of the boarding house business owners, opening opportunities to increase income for the community by opening other businesses that are integrated with the boarding house business and the fulfillment of community expenditures to meet basic needs. This study emphasizes the crucial role of stakeholders in this process, recommending that they improve boarding house facilities and conduct coaching to create a decent boarding house in Padangsidimpuan City.Keywords: Economic Impact, Boarding House, Economic Development
