Abstract

The student's reflective abstraction ability in solving problems is necessary because the result of a person's reflective abstraction is a scheme used to understand something, finding solutions or solving problems. Besides, reflective abstractions are essential to higher mathematical, logical thinking as they occur in logical thinking in children. Therefore, to develop a reflective abstraction notion of high-level mathematical thinking, it is necessary to separate what is an essential feature of reflective abstraction, reflect its rules on higher mathematics, recognize and reconstruct it so that a similar theory of knowledge Mathematics and its instructions. While research that will researchers do is to know how the process of reflective abstraction of students in solving problems in terms of cognitive style. This is because the cognitive style is closely related to how to receive and process all information, especially in learning. The various trends in their learning can be identified and then classified whether the child belongs to an independent field cognitive style (thinking tends to have the independence of views) or field dependent.

Abstract

Linear pattern is the primary material in learning number patterns in junior high schools, but there are still many students who fail to generalize the linear pattern. The students’ failure in generalizing the pattern occurred when the students ended to view the problems globally without breaking them into the constructors’ components such as the experience of field-dependent type students. For this reason, this study was carried out to explore the thinking process of students who fail and investigate the thinking processes of students who succeed in generalizing linear patterns. The results of this study provide an effective learning strategy solution for field-dependent students in generalizing linear patterns. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design to junior high school students. The results indicated that students in the field-dependent cognitive style looked at pattern questions represented in the form of geometric images globally without looking at the structure of the image. Two strategies for generalizing linear patterns used by field-dependent students were examined, namely recursive and different strategies.

Abstract

Semiotics is simply defined as the sign-using to represent a mathematical concept in a problem-solving. Semiotic reasoning of constructing concept is a process of drawing a conclusion based on object, representamen (sign), and interpretant. This paper aims to describe the phases of semiotic reasoning of elementary students in constructing the properties of a rectangle. The participants of the present qualitative study are three elementary students classified into three levels of Adversity Quotient (AQ): quitter/AQ low, champer/AQ medium, and climber/AQ high. The results show three participants identify object by observing objects around them. In creating sign stage, they made the same sign that was a rectangular image. However, in three last stages, namely interpret sign, find out properties of sign, and discover properties of a rectangle, they made different ways. The quitter found two characteristics of rectangular objects then derived it to be a rectangle’s properties. The champer found four characteristics of the objects then it was derived to be two properties of a rectangle. By contrast, Climber found six characteristics of the sign and derived all of these to be four properties of a rectangle. In addition, Climber could determine the properties of a rectangle correctly.

Abstract

Mathematical thinking is necessary in mathematics learning especially in college level. One of activities in undergraduate mathematics learning is proving. This article describes students' thinking process who unable to construct mathematical formal proof. The description uses APOS Theory to explore students' mental mechanism and students' mental structure while they do proving. This research is qualitative research that conducted on students majored in mathematics education in public university in Banten province, Indonesia. Data was obtained through asking students to solve proving-task using think-aloud and then following by interview based task. Results show that the students could not construct a formal proof because they unable to appear encapsulation process. They merely enable to think interiorization and coordination. Based on the results, some suitable learning activities should designed to support the construction of these mental mechanism.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kesalahan guru dalam membelajarkan materi bangun datar ditinjau dari pengetahuan deklaratif dalam pembelajaran matematika. Subjek penelitian ini adalah guru kelas VI Sekolah Dasar Negeri 02 Samarinda Ilir Kota Samarinda Kalimantan Timur. Pengambilan data dilakukan melalui observasi selama proses pembelajaran matematika materi bangun datar dan wawancara setelah pembelajaran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa, terdapat kesalahan guru di dalam membelajarkan materi bangun datar ditinjau dari pengetahuan deklaratif dalam pembelajaran matematika. Kesalahan guru tersebut adalah kesalahan di dalam mendeklarasikan konsep dan fakta tentang keliling dan luas bangun datar secara tertulis/gambar dan secara lisan.

Abstract

Background. Student reasoning in learning mathematics contributes significantly to the achievement of student mathematics learning outcomes. The main objective of this study is to investigate the process of reversible reasoning in students for inverse problems, in the case of Adjie (Ad). The research method used to reveal the reversible reasoning in Adjie's case using descriptive qualitative research methods. Sampling was carried out using purposive sampling technique where the research sample was selected based on reversible reasoning criteria. Retrieval research data uses the results of students' mathematical work, think aloud, interviews, and the components that cause reversible reasoning. The results of our study found that the process begins with an obstacle that causes Ad to be unable to continue the resolution process, resulting in a metacognition process by analyzing the problem again analytically and developing other heuristic strategies. Ad shows a change in perspective where he initially interpreted inverse as the act of swapping independent and dependent variables and switched to interpreting inverse as the opposite of a function process involving analogy and image representation. The contribution of this research provides knowledge that reversible reasoning can occur in understanding and solving mathematical problems in inverse material.   Latar belakang. Penalaran siswa dalam pembelajaran matematika memberikan kontribusi yang signifikan terhadap pencapaian hasil belajar matematika siswa. Tujuan utama dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menyelidiki proses penalaran reversibel pada siswa untuk masalah invers, dalam kasus Adjie (Ad). Metode penelitian yang digunakan untuk mengungkap alasan reversibel pada kasus Adjie menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling dimana sampel penelitian dipilih berdasarkan kriteria penalaran yang dapat dibalik. Pengambilan data penelitian menggunakan hasil kerja matematis siswa, think aloud, wawancara, dan komponen penyebab reversible Reasoning. Hasil penelitian kami menemukan bahwa proses tersebut diawali dengan adanya kendala yang menyebabkan Ad tidak dapat melanjutkan proses penyelesaiannya sehingga terjadi proses metakognisi dengan menganalisis kembali permasalahan tersebut secara analitis dan mengembangkan strategi heuristik lainnya. Iklan menunjukkan perubahan cara pandang dimana awalnya ia mengartikan invers sebagai tindakan menukar variabel independen dan dependen dan beralih mengartikan invers sebagai kebalikan dari proses fungsi yang melibatkan analogi dan representasi gambar. Kontribusi penelitian ini memberikan pengetahuan bahwa penalaran reversibel dapat terjadi dalam pemahaman dan penyelesaian masalah matematika pada materi invers.

Abstract

The ability to think creatively is an important skill that must be possessed by 21st century students, while an attitude of caring for the environment is an important foundation in maintaining the balance of nature. This study aims to: (1) measure the influence of Project Based SCAMPER Learning (PBSL) on students' creative thinking skills, and (2) evaluate the influence of PBSL on environmental care attitudes. This research was conducted at SMAN 1 Ngadiluwih with a sample of students in class X, consisting of 36 students in the experimental class and 36 students in the control class. Data were collected using creative thinking skills tests and environmental care questionnaires, and analyzed using statistical tests, including normality, homogeneity, and two-way ANOVA tests. The results show that PBSL has a significant impact on students' creative thinking skills, especially on the originality indicator, which has experienced the greatest improvement. Students are able to produce innovative new ideas in the field of education.

Abstract

Indonesia's PISA results in 2018 have decreased due to the low ability of students to meet global demands. Creative thinking is one of the 21st-century skill competencies and the profile of Pancasila students. SPBL can improve students' creative thinking skills through its syntax. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of integrating creative thinking teaching through spatial problem-based learning (SPBL). This quasi-experimental research design used a pretest and posttest control design with a sample of 66 students. The research instruments were in the form of tests and questionnaires. The essay test consists of five questions given at the pretest and posttest. The research data were analysed by independent sample t-test, which resulted in a significance value of 0.73 > 0.05. The gain score value of the experimental class (48%) was higher than the control class (40.1%). The results showed that the SPBL approach did not have a significant effect, but it could improve the creative thinking of class 11th IPS students at SMAN 1 Pronojiwo, Lumajang Regency. So, students must get used to the SPBL model.

Abstract

The 21st-century educational landscape necessitates integrating technology into learning. This study highlights a gap in current learning media, overly reliant on traditional textbooks, and failing to fully engage students. To address this, the research proposes the development of webtoon-based e-comic media focused on Indonesian Flora and Fauna, aiming to create a more engaging and effective learning experience. This research utilizes the 4D model by S. Thiagarajan for media development, encompassing four distinct phases: 1) Define, 2) Design, 3) Develop, and 4) Disseminate. The study's participants include students from class XI IPS 1 and a geography teacher at SMAN 1 Gambiran, Banyuwangi. The research employs qualitative descriptive analysis for data evaluation. The findings of the material and media validation process yielded a score of 77.7%, categorizing it as highly appropriate or valid. Furthermore, the implementation of this media in an educational setting was assessed, revealing that teachers found the media 91.3% effective, while student receptivity was even higher at 93.2%. These results underscore the suitability of the webtoon-based e-comic as a learning medium. The positive reception from both students and teachers indicates its potential as an engaging educational tool, enhancing knowledge acquisition in the field of Indonesian Flora and Fauna

Abstract

Problem-Based Learning (PBL) is an effective model for developing students' critical thinking skills in addressing geosphere-related problems. The application of the PBL model provide interactive educational content that supports analysis and problem solving on seismic materials.  This study examines the impact of integrating Google Sites into PBL on students' critical thinking, with a focus on seismic phenomena, a critical topic in geography education. The research was carried out in Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 1 Malang using the post-test control group design design with experimental class X.C and control class X.E. Critical thinking tests have been tested for validity and reliability using critical thinking indicators adapted from Irmawati. Independent sample t-test results with Sig. (2- tailed) are 0,000 or < 0.05 and the ratio of critical thought skills in experimental classes is higher than in control class. The findings indicate a statistically significant improvement in critical thinking skills for students in the experimental group (PBL with Google Sites) compared to the control group (conventional methods). The integration of the PBL model with Google Sites promotes ongoing student collaboration and enhances critical thinking skills in analyzing real-world seismic issues.
