Abstract

Background: As older adults age, they experience a decrease in muscle mass and strength (sarcopenia), which increases the risk of falls and impacts morbidity, mortality, and quality of life. However, evidence on the relationship between handgrip strength and balance, as measured using the timed up and go test, in community-dwelling older adults is still limited, particularly in Indonesia. Thus, the purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between handgrip strength and balance in older adults. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional study design. The sample size in this study was 35 female individuals who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The handgrip strength test used a handgrip dynamometer. Meanwhile, the balance test was measured with a time up and go test. Data normality analysis used the Shapiro Wilk test method (p-value > 0.05), and Pearson correlation to analyze the relationship between two variables (p-value < 0.05). Results: There was a significant negative correlation between the average right HGS (16.63 kg) and TUG (p-value 0.001 and r-value -0.600) and the average left HGS (15.39 kg) and TUG (p-value 0.002 and r-value -0.513). Conclusions: :  This study shows that dominant handgrip strength in community-dwelling older women is significantly correlated with balance and mobility. These findings expand the evidence in Indonesia that dominant handgrip strength has the potential to be used as an early screening indicator for functional mobility in older adults.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of circuit training on agility, leg muscle explosive power, and arm muscle explosive power of basketball athletes at MAN Kota Surabaya. This study employed a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The subjects consisted of 15 basketball athletes participating in extracurricular activities. The instruments used were the Illinois Agility Test to measure agility, Jump MD for leg muscle explosive power, and Medicine Ball Throw for arm muscle explosive power. The circuit training program was conducted for eight weeks with a frequency of three sessions per week. Data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The results showed significant improvements in all variables, with significance values for agility (p = 0.000), leg muscle explosive power (p = 0.000), and arm muscle explosive power (p = 0.000). In conclusion, circuit training has a significant effect on improving agility as well as leg and arm muscle explosive power of basketball athletes at MAN Kota Surabaya. Keywords: basketball, circuit training, muscle explosive power, agility

Abstract

Abstract

The research aims to determine user criteria regarding digital slingshot targets using the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method based on ergonomic tool design. This type of research is a case study research conducted through questionnaires. 38 respondents from East Java Indonesian Traditional Slingshot Association (PERKATIN) filled out a questionnaire consisting of 11 questions. Based on the weight of relative importance, the attribute priority results are color variations (12.57), material economic life (12), ease of operating the tool (12), material strength (11.57), choice of tool shape (11.08). The conclusion is that the priority consistently includes the attributes of color variations, material economic life, ease of operating the tool, material strength, and choice of tool shape in determining the user criteria of the digital target tool slingshot as needed.

Abstract

Background: Evidence shows that the level of physical activity of adolescents in the world is still very lacking, while physical activity itself has a holistic effect, both physically and mentally, including on one's life satisfaction. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between physical activity and student life satisfaction. Methods: Correlational research was used in this study. A total of 58 students of Jogoroto 1 Junior High School (JHS) consisting of 29 boys and 29 girls. SLSS and IPAQ-SF instruments were used in this study and data analysis techniques used descriptive statistics and Spearman's rho rank correlation test. Results: he correlation test results showed a positive correlation coefficient and significance less than 0.05 between physical activity and student's life satisfaction, both in terms of METs value (r=0.875, p=0.000<0.05) and physical activity category (r=0.929, p=0.000<0.05). Conclusions: There is a significant correlation between physical activity and student's life satisfaction. The higher the level of physical activity, the higher the level of student's life satisfaction.
