Abstract

Abstract: This descriptive quantitative research was aimed to find out the ability of the second grade students of MA Darul Istiqomah Kemuning Inhil in writing recount texts. The sample of the research was 40 students in the second grade of MA Darul Istiqomah Kemuning. The data were obtained from students’ ability in writing a recount text. The writing test was used as the test to assess the students’ ability. The time allocation was 60 minutes for the entire test. The data were scored by three raters by using writing scoring system that assesses five aspects of writing: content, grammar, organization, vocabulary and mechanics. The finding showed that the students had a good ability level in writing recount texts which means that students were able to write the recount text in English well. It was found out that the students’ ability in terms of content was the highest among other aspects with the category score level is good and the lowest score was in terms of mechanics with the category score level is fair. From the findings, it is suggested the students need to do more practice in writing English texts and improve their writing especially in terms of grammar and mechanics.Key Words: Ability, Writing, Recount Text

Abstract

Abstract : The objective of this research is to find out types of errors made by the third year students of SMPN 14 Pekanbaru in writing descriptive text. This is a descriptive research. The subject of this study was the third year students of SMPN 14 Pekanbaru. In conducting this research, the writer used 30 students as a sample. The students were selected to be the sample using cluster sampling technique. The instrument used to collect the data was writing test. The result of this research showed that the students committed error into four types: omission, addition, misformaion, and misordering. From the frequency of each error type, ‘omission’ was the error which most frequently produced by the students. It took 47,25% of the total errors. Moreover, 32,11% errors fell into error of ‘misformation’ and 14,68% errors fell into ‘addition’; whereas, for error of ‘misordering’, it only took 5,96%.Key Words: Error, Writing, Descriptive text.

Abstract

Abstract : This pre-experimental study is aims at finding out if there is a significant effect of Clustering Technique on the ability of the second year students of MTs Hasanah Pekanbaru in writing descriptive texts. The design of the study is one group pre-test post-test design. 33 students of class VIII.1 were chosen as the sample by using cluster random sampling technique. The instrument of the study was a writing test in the form of free writing. The students’ scores were analyzed by using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) 23.00 for windows. The result of the data analysis showed that the mean score of pre-test was 51.87 and the mean score of post-test was 73.08. In other words, the mean score of post-test was higher than the mean score of pre-test. The result showed that the value of t-test was higher than t-table (17.136>2.037) at the significant level of 5%. Therefore, alternative hypothesis is accepted and null hypothesis is rejected. It can be concluded that there is a significant effect of Clustering Technique on the ability of the second year students of MTs Hasanah Pekanbaru in writing descriptive texts.Key Words: Effect, Clustering Technique, Writing Ability, Descriptive Text

Abstract

Abstract: This research is aimed at finding out whether or not there is a significant effect of using comic strips as media in teaching writing of the second year students of SMP Tribhakti Pekanbaru in the Academic Year 2018/2019 in writing recount text. The research design is pre-experimental research with one group pre-test – treatment – post-test design. The sample of the research was 30 students VIII 1 chosen by using cluster random sampling technique. The data were collected by giving the writing test about recount text (pre-test and post-test) to the students. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. The results of data analysis showed that the mean score of posttest was higher than the mean score of pretest (60.05 > 53.72). The value of t-test was 12.441 while the value of t-table in significance level 5% df = 29 was 2.045. Since the value of the t-test was higher than t-table, it can be concluded that Alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and Null Hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. It means that there was a significant effect of using comic strips as media on the ability in writing recount texts of the second year students at SMP Tribhakti Pekanbaru. It suggested that comic strips worked to improve students’ writing ability, especially in writing recount texts as media.Key Words: Comic Strips, Writing ability, Recount Text

Abstract

Abstract: Motivation is an essential factor that affects the process of foreign language acquisition. The objective of this research is to find out the level of motivation in learning English and the dominant type of motivation whether instrumental or integrative motivation. This research used descriptive quantitative method. The population of this research was the first year students of English Study Program FKIP Universitas Riau in academic year 2019/2020. The number of sample was taken based on Slovin formula; in which there were 55 students selected by simple random sampling technique. Questionnaires and interview were used to collect the data. The results from this study showed that the level of integrative motivation has mean score of 4.27 and instrumental motivation has mean score of 3.63. This result indicated that the dominant type of motivation of the first year students was integrative motivation rather than instrumental motivation.Key Words: Instrumental motivation, integrative motivation, learning English

Abstract

Hipertensi adalah suatu keadaan dimana tekanan darah sistole dan diastole mengalami kenaikan yang melebihi batas normal. Di Sumatera Barat tahun 2020 kasus lansia dengan hipertensi telah mencapai 73.639 jiwa, Puskesmas Pauh merupakan urutan ke 3 penderita hipertensi terbanyak dari 23 puskesmas yang ada di Kota Padang. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui Pengaruh Aktivitas Fisik Jalan Pagi Terhadap Penurunan Tekanan Darah Pada Lansia Dengan Hipertensi di Puskesmas Pauh Padang. Jenis Penelitian ini Quasi Exprerimental dengan rancangan penelitian (One GroupPretest-Posttest Design). Penelitian dilakukan di Puskesmas Pauh Padang dari bulan Maret sampai Agustus 2021. Populasi pada penelitian ini berjumlah 5.184 jiwa dengan sampel sebanyak 10 orang yang diambil dengan Accidental Sampling dalam waktu 1 minggu. Data diolah dengan komputerisasi yang dianalisa secara univariat dan bivariat dengan uji Paired T-Test. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan sebelum dilakukan aktivitas fisik jalan pagi, rata-rata tekanan darah responden sisole 145 mmHg sedangkan diastole 90 mmHg. Sesudah dilakukan aktivitas fisik jalan pagi penurunan tekanan darah sistole 5-15 mmHg dan diastole 5-10 mmHg. Dan hasil uji Paired-Test menunjukan bahwa terdapat pengaruh aktivitas fisik terhadap penurunan tekanan darah sistolik dan diastolik dengan Pvalue 0,000 sistole dan Pvalue 0,003 diastole . Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah jalan pagi selama 30 menit dengan frekuensi 3 kali dalam seminggu berpengaruh terhadap menurunya tekanan darah sistolik dan diastolik pada lansia hipertensi. Peneliti berharap agar petugas kesehatan di Puskesmas Pauh dapat menerapkan aktivitas fisik jalan pagi kepada lansia dengan hipertensi untuk menurunkan tekanan darah.Hipertensi adalah suatu keadaan dimana tekanan darah sistole dan diastole mengalami kenaikan yang melebihi batas normal. Abstract

Perempuan dan anak adalah kelompok yang paling banyak menjadi korban tindak pidana perdagangan orang. Tujuan dari perdagangan orang tersebut adalah untuk pelacuran dan tindakan eksploitasi lainnya, seperti kerja paksa atau pelayanan paksa, perbudakan atau praktek serupa perbudakan itu. Perlindungan terhadap korban sebagai pelapor tindak pidana perdagangan orang adalah sangat esensial. Saksi korban adalah korban yang mengalami secara langsung akan memberikan dampak kondisi psikologis dan trauma yang dialaminya. Undang-undang telah memberikan perlindungan terhadap korban tindak pidana perdagangan orang dalam bentuk pemberian hak restitusi. Perlindungan saksi korban dan restitusi merupakan satu bentuk perlindungan yang diberikan oleh pemerintah dalam upaya pemulihan terhadap korban tindak pidana perdagangan orang. Selain UU mengatur juga hak korban atas rehabilitasi medis dan sosial, pemulangan serta reintegrasi yang harus dilakukan oleh Negara khususnya bagi mereka yang mengalami penderitaan fisik, psikis dan sosial akibat tindak pidana ini. Perlindungan bagi saksi korban tindak pidana trafiking adalah berupa serangkaian tindakan yang diberikan kepada korban yang tujuannya untuk melindungi dan memberi rasa aman bagi korban, dari intimidasi ataupun ancaman yang datang dari pelaku atau atau keluarga pelaku.

Abstract

Abstract: Writing an abstract is one of the important components that must be included in a thesis or research article, but in fact, it is difficult to do. The purpose of this research was to identify difficulties in writing informative abstracts in Jurnal Online Mahasiswa Universitas Riau. This research used a qualitative approach, and the research design is content or document analysis. The data was taken from 40 Jurnal Online Mahasiswa Universitas Riau in the last 4 years (2019–2022). The results showed that the percentage of rhetorical moves in Move 1 (Introduction) was 20%, Move 2 (Purpose), Move 3 (Method), and Move 5 (Conclusion) was 97.5%, while Move 4 (Product) was 95%. Furthermore, in the writing aspects, there are 80% of documents that use formal vocabulary, formal verbs, and full verbs. Then, only 47.5% of the documents use formal grammar structures; 77.5% of the abstracts used statements; 52.5% use impersonal language; 62.5% of the abstracts analyzed were precise; 75% use hedging statements; and 70% of the abstracts used transition words. The conclusion is that there are difficulties in writing an abstract framework in move 1 (introduction), and formal grammar structure is the most difficult writing aspect that students experienced.Key Words: Difficulty, Informative Abstract, Writing

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to find out the correlation between reading comprehension and ability in writing recount text of the second year students of SMP YLPI Perhentian Marpoyan Pekanbaru. The samples of the research were 46 second year students of SMP YLPI Perhentian Marpoyan Pekanbaru. There were a reading comprehension test consisted of 30 questions about recount text and writing a recount text test as the instruments of this research. The time allocation was 60 minutes for the entire test. The data were obtained by students’ scores of reading comprehension test and writing test. The data for writing test were graded by three raters by using an analytical scoring system. The finding shows that the students had a fair level ability in both reading and writing. To see the correlation between the two variables, the primary data were analysed and correlated by using the Product Pearson Product Moment Correlation on SPSS 26.0 Program. Based on findings, the correlation between students’ reading comprehension (X) and their ability in writing (Y), the correlation coefficient (rxy) was 0.642 and it was categorized as a fair correlation. It could be concluded that there was a significant correlation between reading comprehension and ability in writing. It is suggested for teachers to help students use English verb tenses appropriately, teachers are also expected to clearly show how each tense is formed. It is also suggested that future research could further examine the relationship between other English skills.Key Words: Correlation, Reading Comprehension, Writing Ability, Recount Texts

Abstract

Abstract: This study was conducted to analyzing EFL Learners’ strategy in apologizing. This was a descriptive qualitative study using a qualitative approach combine with descriptive statistics. The participants of this study were 32 EFL Learners that currently study in their second academic year in English Department of Universitas Riau. They were selected using cluster random sampling technique. The data was collected online using a DCT (Discourse Completion Task) containing 8 situation which required participants to write down their responses for each situation. The result revealed that participants are capable to use a wide variety of apology strategies. Moreover, they have tendency to use more than one strategy in one situation.Key Words: Apology strategy, DCT, .
