Abstract

The development of PAI teaching materials on Qur'anic sub-materials is related to the development of Qur'anic science and tafsir.  If the development of teaching materials for the Qur'an does not pay attention to the trend of Qur'anic studies, the understanding obtained by students is less relevant to the context of life they experience. This article will discuss three fundamental things: how is the structure of Qur'anic material in PAI subjects in schools, how is the contextuality of Qur'anic understanding presented in PAI teaching materials in schools, and how is the approach needed for the development of Qur'anic material in PAI teaching materials in schools. The research method used is library research with data collected through documentation method in the form of Islamic teaching materials for elementary, junior and senior high schools published by the Centre for Curriculum and Bookkeeping of the Ministry of National Education. The collected data were then classified, presented in the presentation of data and analysed by the method of text analysis with an explanatory analysis approach, namely describing and criticising the substance of its content according to the categories in the research problem. The results of the study show a discrepancy between the objectives of learning al-Qu'ran at the elementary, junior high and high school levels with a number of supporting things. The priority of learning to read as the purpose of learning the Qur'an at the primary level is disrupted by the purpose of learning the Qur'an at the primary level which is also aimed at understanding the content of the Qur'an by interpreting the verses of the Qur'an. While the material for understanding the content of the Qur'an at the junior and senior high school levels is still very minimal from the source of tafsir sources so that the learning material is less contextual and actual.

The data that have been collected then analyzed by the method of content analysis which analyze the interpreter's thoughts with theoretical categories so that found the main message and the context. The results of the study show that, God created the first human Adam and Eve then cultivate it into human offspring, by creating the womb. The stages of human development in the womb are ranging from nuthfah, 'alaqah, mudghah and ansya'a khalqan ākhar. Abstract

The Indonesian Qur’anic tafsirs represent a contextual approach. Each tafsir scholar has different characteristics in contextualizing the meaning of the Qur’an so that it is relevant to contemporary Indonesian society. This article aims to show the dynamic character of Indonesian Qur’anic interpretation in contextualizing the meaning of the verses about Moses in the Indonesian context. This research uses a comparative method against the al-Azhar tafsir written by Haji Abdul Malik bin Karim Amrullah, also known as Hamka, and the Tafsir al-Mishbāh by M. Quraish Shihab. The three aspects compared and the research questions include: How is the story of Prophet Moses narrated in the two tafsir books? What are the interpretation methods used in the verses about the story of Prophet Moses, and how can the lessons from the story of Prophet Moses align with the Indonesian cultural context? The research results show that both tafsir books have similarities in making the story of Moses relevant to Indonesian society. The difference is that Tafsir al-Mishbāh appears more disciplined in following the textual meaning of the Qur’anic verses. In contrast, Tafsir al-Azhar is more flexible in its storytelling improvisation, making the story of Moses more cohesive and engaging. Shihab understands the story of Moses as Allah’s plan to overthrow human arrogance (Pharaoh), with a narrative flow following Allah’s laws. This retelling represents Shihab’s traditionalist and pragmatic thinking. In contrast, Hamka is more rational and critical. He views the story of Moses as a struggle and heroism that teaches the importance of hard work and intelligence in facing life’s challenges. The findings of this research contribute to showing the dynamic nature of Indonesian contextual tafsir. It illustrates how the Qur’anic interpretation maintains its textual meaning while remaining relevant for contemporary readers.

Abstract

In today’s digital technology era, teachers’ function in the learning process seems obscure. They are only perceived as learning facilitators. This paper attempted to find relevant teacher’s concepts in the digital era according to the interpretation of the Qur’an. The perspective of the Qur’an interpretation needs to be studied as a source of knowledge to find teacher’s concepts relevant to the digital era because the existing studies on teachers tend to be based on partial perspective between theory and norm. It was conducted under the interpretation of the Qur’an on the development and internalization of science. The interpretation of some verses was analyzed for contextuality and its implications on the function of teachers in the current era. The study results suggested that a teacher should function as an educator and caregiver. He/she not only teaches science but also directs and nurtures students, so they understand and practice moral goodness. Education is responsible for developing not only cognitive but also psychomotor skills. It must also improve students’ knowledge of goodness and virtue so that they can practice it in the end. That the function of a teacher is to educate and nurture students to be a good human is yet relevant today. This paper suggested a deeper research to examine the decline in the role of teachers around the school environment by evaluating the curriculum and learning system.

Abstract

This research examines the intersection between Qur'anic interpretation and Javanese culture, focusing on K.H. Bisri Musthafa’s Tafsīr al-Ibrīz, a commentary written in Javanese using pegon script. The study employs an in-depth analytical approach, addressing two key aspects: the representation of verses concerning gender relations (men and women), and the dynamic interplay between the interpreter’s perspective and the Javanese cultural framework. As a library-based study, this research adopts a descriptive-analytical method, utilizing hermeneutic theory to analyze the triad of text, interpreter, and socio-cultural context. The findings reveal that al-Ibrīz positions men as the leaders of the household, asserting their authority over women, who are expected to submit to male guardianship. The commentary emphasizes biological determinism: men are portrayed as physically strong and resilient, thus assigned the role of providers and protectors, while women are associated with gentleness and confined to domestic spheres—summarized in the Javanese culture as macak (grooming), masak (cooking), and manak (childbearing). Additionally, the interpretation highlights women’s reproductive functions, including menstruation, menopause, and breastfeeding obligations. The analysis confirms a cultural-textual synergy: the interpreter’s model aligns with traditional Javanese patriarchy, where men dominate household governance, and women occupy a subordinate position. Abstract

Abstract

Menafsirkan al-Qur`an adalah menggali pandangan hidup al-Qur`an atau makna dari totalitas struktur al-Qur`an. Makna al-Qur`an juga memberikan acuan kepada dunia kontemporer.

Abstract

Modern age is marked by the progress of humans reasoning as rational beings. Science is growing rapidly with avariety of scientific methodology that guarantees the truth findings. In contrast, Beliefs and religious truth are assessed naïve and subjective, and all non-rational-minded communities are regarded as primitive, uncivilized society. This phenomenon brings the tension in the relation between religion and science and incites the two to negate and degrade each other existence. This article seeks to analyse the dialectical relationship between religion and science in the realm of ontology and epistemology that has lasted a long time. The goal is to obtain a new horizon for the future relation between science and religion. From the ontological and epistemological perspectives, the conflict does not really have a solid foundation as religion is not dealing with spiritual issues, mystical, or non-rational an sich. In fact, religion can be studied scientifically with the appropriate methodological foundation and objective. Likewise, a review of religion can be built on scientific approach. Through this perspective, the relationship between religion and science is no longer diametric, but interdisciplinary dialectic that mutually enrich and strengthen each other.
