Abstract

Metacognition is one of the key learning skills in the 21st century, with a strong potential to help students succeed in science learning. Until now, this metacognitive awareness is less empowered by lecturers in learning. This study aimed to analyze the problem-based learning (PBL) reading-questioning-answering (PBLRQA) model's effect on metacognitive awareness in pre-service teachers. This research is a quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design. Determination of the research sample class was carried out by random sampling. Each learning model was represented by PBLRQA and PBL class. The number of classes used was 2, totaling 57 students. The instrument used was the metacognitive awareness inventory (MAI). This inventory comprised 52 statement items divided into planning, monitoring, evaluating, and revising skills. An important finding in this research is that students' metacognitive awareness in learning with PBL and PBLRQA is not significantly different. Thus, the PBLRQA and PBL models can still be used in students' science learning to encourage metacognitive awareness, so that academic success can be achieved.

Abstract

The primary characteristics of 21st-century learning emphasize the importance of digital literacy in preparing individuals to manage information, collaborate, and adapt to rapid changes in the digital society. A project-based digital literacy learning model is crucial as it equips students with necessary skills to navigate effectively in an increasingly interconnected digital world through authentic projects integrating digital technology, enabling them to learn, innovate, collaborate, and communicate effectively in a continually evolving global context. This development study aims to produce a valid, practical, and effective "SCIENCE" Digital Literacy Learning Model based on project approaches. The research method employed is the 4D R&D model (Define, Design, Development, Dissemination). This study was conducted at SMP Advent 5 Kairagi Weru, Grade VIII, Second Semester of the Academic Year 2023/2024. Research instruments used include interviews, observations, questionnaire surveys, and achievement tests. Data analysis techniques utilized descriptive statistics. Based on the research findings, the validity test results of the project-based "SCIENCE" digital literacy learning model were categorized as valid with a percentage of 88.89%. Practicality assessment based on teacher questionnaire responses indicated a very practical category with a percentage of 91.67%, while student questionnaire analysis also indicated a very practical category with a percentage of 94.46%. The effectiveness test results were categorized as highly effective with a percentage of 88%. In conclusion, it can be inferred that the "SCIENCE" Digital Literacy Learning Model meets the criteria of being valid, practical, and effective.

Abstract

State Vocational High School (SMK) 1 Siau Timur is one of the vocational schools in Sitaro Regency that has great agricultural potential, but has never conducted a hydroponic farming learning project. This Community Service (PKM) activity aims to increase student empowerment through hydroponic cultivation training as an innovative solution to support local food security, as well as strengthening entrepreneurial competencies. This program is implemented using the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) method with stages of theoretical training, seeding practice, hydroponic installation assembly, and plant care. A total of 40 students majoring in Agribusiness and Agricultural Product Processing (APHP) became active participants in this activity. The results of the training survey showed a significant increase in the aspects of knowledge, technical, skills, and student confidence. 82.5% of students considered the activity very useful and 75% stated that their practical abilities increased. This activity proves that the hydroponic system is effective as an innovative learning tool based on local potential that can be integrated into the school curriculum to encourage food independence and develop students' entrepreneurial spirit.
