Abstract

The research is intended to reveal Pip's struggle for a better life. He never gives up to reach his dream for better life as seen in Charles Dickens' Great Expectations. This research is categorized as a qualitative research because the data are taken in the form of words. The data are collected from primary source that is the novel itself, and the secondary sources are collected from some books, articles, internet and other sources that are used to support the analysis. In analyzing the data, the writer used objective approach. The result shows the struggle of Pip for a better life. The first struggles to be a gentleman, and the second struggles to get his love. Pip is an orphan and Pip always tries to be a gentleman so that his life can be better and he never gives up on getting Estella, the woman he loves. And in the end the efforts that Pip can do, Pip can get what he dreams of becoming a respectable man and getting Estella's love a woman he loves so much.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the social conflict in William Faulkner’s novel. It is done to reveal the types of conflicts found in the novel and causes of conflict in this novel. In conducting this research, the research used qualitative methods. This research is classified as library research because the data collection is done by reading novels and reading several books and other references related to the topic. The data were analyzed based on the type of conflict and its causes and then presented descriptively. In other words, the researcher analyzed the data according to the topic and then present the result in a narrative. In analyzing the data, the researcher used a mimetic approach. The results of the research show that there are two categories of social conflict in the novel, namely: conflict between individuals and individuals and conflict between individuals and group

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to reveal about courage as seen in Winston Groom's Forrest Gump. The design of the study is qualitative research because the data of this research are in the form of words. The researchers use two kinds of data collection which are the primary source and secondary sources. The primary source is the novel itself and the secondary sources are the materials that the researchers took from books, internet, articles, journals, etc. The researchers use objective approach because the researcher analyzed the courage of the main character in the novel which is one of the internal elements. In analysing the data, researchers do a close reading of the novel and create a coding to help researchers easily find and arrange the research. Because this research uses objective theory, the researcher examines the internal elements of the novel, namely characters, plot, theme and setting. The researchers focus on the character by classifying each character in the novel into two parts, namely round character and flat character. The results of this study can be concluded that the courage of Forrest Gump is seen from two types of courage, namely moral courage and physical courage. First, by moral courage that he dared to face his shortcomings and dared to show his abilities. Second, Forrest also shows physical courage to protect himself and help others. From these results the researcher found that people who have courage can get through all the difficulties in their life.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to reveal the struggle to reconcile in Nicholas Sparks The Last Song. In conducting this research, the writers use qualitative research because the data are collected in the form of words and quotations from the primary source which is the novel itself The Last Song written by Nicholas Sparks, and secondary sources are related documents such as books, journal, internet browsing, dictionary, and some materials that can support this research. In analyzing the data, the writers use objective approach to get the information about Steve Miller struggle for reconciliation. The result of research shows the struggle of Steve Miller for reconcile the relationship. In addition, in solving the struggle, the writers conclude in Steve struggle that he did several things, namely by following his daughter's wishes, believing in his daughter, and fighting to hide his illness. Steve Miller gets several effects. Steve Miller more aware of the real love of God, being his daughter aware of Steve's Miller affection, his daughter knows the reason for her parents divorce decision, Making his daughter Peace with Self, and finally they can reconcile the relationship. So, in the struggle it is not easy people need to patient and never give up in facing them. Because there is no struggle without challenges, people must disappointment and tears faced it.

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to prove whether or not Show and Tell method can improve students’ speaking skill. The research design used in this study is quasi-experimental method. The researcher used test as the instrument which in form of oral test consisted of pre-test and post-test. In pre-test, the researcher collected the data of students’ speaking fluency, comprehensibility, and accuracy. In post test, order to find out the progress of students speaking fluency, accuracy and comprehensibility of the treatment. The result is the mean score of pre-test in experimental group is 51,42. And the mean score of post-test in experimental group is 81,07. In the control group, the mean score of pre-test in control group is 49,33. And the mean score of post test in control group is 79,33. It can be concluded that the result of mean score increased after using Show and Tell method in order to improve students’ speaking skill.

Abstract

Reading novel can provide a lot of inspiration to become better and moren capable of solving life’s problems. So that least the reader for himself and also for others, so that it can positively change the future of the world for the better. This study aims to study the symbols of Dan Brown's novel The Da Vinci Code. The two research questions that guided this research are: 1. What are the symbols described by the author in the Da Vinci Code? 2. How does the author describe the Da Vinci Code symbols? The research method for this study was qualitative descriptive analysis, which was used as a data analysis method. As a result, it was found that the novel has two symbols, a universal symbol and a conventional symbol. A universal symbol described as follows: Vitruvian Man, The Last Supper. Five-pointed star, mona Lisa, rose line. The traditional symbol is described as follows: The Holy Grail. This study focuses on the explanation of symbols and their meanings

Abstract

The purpose of this study was revealed about impacts of parents’ divorced towards children revealed in Nicholas Spark’s The Last Song. This study delimited only in revealed about the impact of parents’ divorced toward child through the character of children itself in Nicholas Spark’s The Last Song. In this research the writer used qualitative method in analyzing the novel. The writer used two kinds of sources in collecting the data in this research. That is primary source and secondary sources. Novel The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks is the primary source and the other references which have relation with the story to support the writer to completing the data is secondary source. In analyze the data the writer used objective.It means that the study was focused on the work. Based on the previous chapter, the researcher concludes that there are three main impacts from parents divorced towards child reflected from Ronnie Miller as a daughter in her divorced family. Those are: difficulties adaption to change, emotionally sensitive and feeling of guilt. Parents divorce can be a difficult time for a family. Not only are the parents realizing new ways of relating to each other, but they are learning new ways to parent their children. When parents divorce, the effects of divorce on children can vary. Some children react to divorce in a natural and understanding way, while other children may struggle with the transition

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out how the id, ego and superego of the main character in the movie script Cruella by Tony McNamara and Dana Fox. In this research, the writer used qualitative research and descriptive method, a research method that used non-numerical data to explain a phenomenon accurately. In analyzing this research, the writer used psychological approach, to be exact psychoanalysis theory of id, ego and superego by Sigmund Freud. The writer analyzed the data found in the movie, script, books, journals, articles and websites by several watches of the movie and taking notes on some important parts of the movie script, then applied the theory of psychoanalysis. Based on the results of this study, it was found that the id of Estella, the main character of the movie Cruella is portrayed through her eccentric and quite barbaric thoughts of revenge. The ego is portrayed through how she somehow managed her revenge thoughts into a more realistic ways. And the superego is portrayed through her guilty thought and realization of her true self. It can be concluded that Estella, who also has an alter-ego as Cruella has id as her leading thought, ego that quite often leading her psyche and superego that is the least dominant thought of Estella.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to reveal the cruel nature and ambition of the two daughters of King Lear (Goneril and Regan) King Lear is one of the works of Author William Shakespeare's, a famous story during the time of Queen Elizabeth II. This research is categorized as qualitative research because the data collected from several articles, journals, searches from the internet. And in analyzing the data the writer uses a psychological approach because this includes human behavior, both individuals and groups who do harmful behavior and even benefit themselves, ethnicity, nation, society, government, religion, or organization. So, this drama explains how their actions have affected the lives of those around them, even physically and mentally damaging King Lear, even themselves. This triggers the ambition to move forward to get desires and desires that result in destruction, even death, so that the lives of brothers and sisters finally break apart, conflicts occur because of the ambition to have power and get love so that one by one die, without justice.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to find out whether or not students' reading comprehension of narrative texts might be enhanced by using the reading aloud strategy. The Reading Aloud Strategy is a reading exercise that uses a loud voice reading style to help kids concentrate and pay attention. 20 students from the VII grade at SMP Negeri 1 Eris made up the sample for this quantitative study. The researcher employed a pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test design. Multiple-choice examinations, true-false quizzes, and essays served as the research tools in this study. Using the average score algorithm, the research's data were statistically analyzed. The data calculated using the students' pre-test results was 49, and the test was 78 after. Between the pre-test and post-test, there was a 29 point change in the pupils' scores. According to the study's findings, the pre-average test's score was lower than the post-average test's score. The researcher draws the conclusion that the reading aloud strategy works well to increase pupils' reading comprehension.
