Abstract

Generally, blending can be defined as combining two clipped words. Kvetko in Bednarova defines blending as a word formation process similar to shortening combined with merging two different words. There are many types of blending words both in Indonesian and English context. Therefore, the aim of this research is to analyze the comparison between Indonesian blend words and English blend words in terms of its types, its similarities and differences and also how its formed. In this paper the researcher use descriptive qualitative method as the method of the research. The source of the data is taken from some journal articles that relevant with blend words both in Indonesian and English context. The result showed that Indonesian blend words and English blend words not only have similarities in the forming word, but also have their differences that make them unique to each other. The writer hopes that the reader of this article gets more information about both Indonesian and English blend words based on its types and the similarities and the difference between them.

Abstract

Dalam penelitian penerjemahan ini akan dikaji tentang nama persona dalam novel fantasi berjudul Tintentod karya Cornelia Funke. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi nama persona serta hasil terjemahannya, mengklasifikasi nama persona tersebut berdasarkan kategorisasi nama serta menganalisis teknik penerjemahan yang digunakan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah novel Tintentod berbahasa Jerman serta novel terjemahannya yang berbahasa Indonesia berjudul Tintentod dan berbahasa Inggris berjudul Inkdeath. Data dalam penelitian ini adalah satuan lingual yang berupa nama persona. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik simak dan catat. Teknik analisis yang digunakan adalah padan translasional. Dari hasil penilitian didapatkan: Pertama, terdapat 104 nama persona dari 78 tokoh di dalam novel Tintentod. Kedua, 65.3% nama persona yang ada dalam novel Tintentod termasuk dalam kategori nama depan dan nama pemberian. Ketiga, teknik transfer paling sering digunakan dalam penerjemahan nama persona baik dari bahasa Jerman ke Indonesia maupun bahasa Jerman ke Inggris. Perbedaannya teknik transfer lebih dominan dalam penerjemahan berbahasa Indonesia yakni 54.8% sedangkan pada penerjemahan berbahasa Inggris terdapat dua teknik yang sering digunakan yakni teknik trasfer sebesar 44.2% dan teknik diterjemahkan sebesar 43.2%. The translation of personal names in Tintentod Novel by Cornelia Funke AbstractThis study explores the translation of personal names in a fantasy novel that originally titled Tintentod and written by Cornelia Funke. This study aimed to investigate how personal names rendered into Indonesian and into English, to determine the names categorization of the personal names that found in novel and to analyze the translation techniques that used to translate the texts. This research was a descriptive qualitative. This study draws its data from novels originally written in German and translated into Indonesian titled Tintentod and into English titled Inkdeath. The data were linguistic units containing personal names. The data were collected through observations and note taking technique. The analysis technique was a translational. The research results are: (1) There are 107 personal name and 78 character found in this research. (2) they are classified into three categories, 65.3% of the personal names are included in the first categories. they are classified into first name and giving name category.(3) The transfer technique is mostly used in the personal name translation both from German into Indonesian and into English. The transfer technique is more dominant in Indonesian than in English. There are two translation techniques used in English, transfer technique 44.2% and translated technique 43.2%.

Abstract

Slogan is one of the powerful tools to advertise e-commerce products and services. The power of slogan to promote commodities lies primarily on the language style that it employs. This study is aimed at analyzing the linguistic feautures in 38 e-commerce slogans that are popular in Indonesia. The data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. Quantitatively, the data were calculated regarding the frequency of each identified linguistic features: semantic devices, syntactic devices, phonetic devices, orthographic devices, syntactic errors, code-mixing, and moods. Qualitatively, the data were verbally analyzed, described, and discussed. The findings show that regarding linguistic devices, the most prevalent case is semantic device (self-reference). Concerning syntactic errors, the most apparent errors relate to word order typology and ommission of articles & prepositions. Speaking of code-mixing, the most frequently used term is the word ‘online’. In relation to moods, the most dominant mood is declarative. This study suggests further study with a wider context of data

Abstract

The aims of this study are to describe the cohesion markers, coherence markers, and its situation and cultural context contained in the lyrics of “Belle'' the “Notre-Dame de Paris”. This study used the scrutinize method for collecting data by applying reading technique, SBLC (non-participant observation) technique, and note-taking technique. The data was analysed by using division classifying technique, replacing technique, expanding technique, and marker identification technique. The results of this study showed that: (1) the cohesion markers found based on the analysis included grammatical and lexical cohesion. Those markers are references (63 data), conjunctions (4 data), synonymy (6 data), repetitions (4 data), collocations (2 data), and equivalence (1 data); (2) The coherence markers found on this analysis are relationship of addition meanings (1 data), relationship of time meanings (3 data), relationship of comparison meanings (2 data), relationship of effect meanings (1 data), relationship of explication meanings (4 data), and relationship of usability meanings (5 data); (3) Based by situation and cultural context analysis, this data contains the love story among Quasimodo, Frollo, and Phœbus towards Esmeralda, the gypsy dancer.

Abstract

Interlanguage has been the main development of field research on second language acquisition (SLA). According to Richard et al (1996) Interlanguage is one of the kinds of language that can be produced by second language learners in the process of acquiring or learning a new language. The influence of the universal grammar of the first language in learning the second language is still debated whether or not universal grammar takes part in second language acquisition. In this article has the aim to investigate the interlanguage of competence and performance representation. In second language acquisition, there is a confusion between the interlanguage of competence and performance. When people perform the second language, it will different from native speakers and argue that demonstrates defects in competence aspect. So, there is a lack of universal grammar. Interlanguage is natural when people acquire a second language based on the theory interlanguage. It might have the knowledge of grammar but when the people produced the sentence or words. It will be grammatical errors. There is some performance factor that the second language learners' competence is hidden such as parsing or demands of processing.  It differences between pure knowledge and how people use the knowledge of its self. Both of them do not always coincide. This research tried to offer a descriptive review of the Interlanguage on performance and competence representation.

Abstract

This research entitled ”An Analysis of Figurative Language in Onlen Short Story Posted on The Jakarta Post” is aimed to found some kinds of figurative language used; she also studies about the meaning of figurative language used in selected short story on online the Jakarta  Post. This research employs the library research in the sense that the researcher visited the libraries to get the data. There are two kinds of data in this research: (1) primary sources and (2) secondary sources. Primary source is firsthand information. Then secondary sources provide secondhand information. In this study, the primary source is short story gained from online Jakarta Post. Then, the secondary source was from books, e-books, journals, English dictionary, observation and documentation that were related to the research which was gained.After the data are gathered, they classified, analyzed, and interpreted by using several theories namely: (1) the theory of Figurative Language by Perrine (1982:61)), Short Story by Klarer (1998:13).Some of the important research findings are presented as follows. First, figurative language has many types, such as metaphor, simile, personification, metonymy, irony, symbol, hyperbole, paradox, alliteration, allusion, onomatopoeia, and many others. Henceforth, all kinds of figurative language cannot be found in all work of literature. There are some types mostly found in the literature, such as simile, personification, hyperbole, metaphor, irony, and metonymy.In this case, the writer only conducted the research in short story. The writer found some types of figurative language in the short story; those are personification, simile, symbol, and onomatopoeia. Personification is one of types of figurative language mostly found in the short story posted on online Jakarta Post. Keywords: Figurative, language, Jakarta post

Abstract

Even though –ing form is acquired earlier based on the natural order hypotheses of L2 morpheme acquisition, it remains difficult for L2 learners to acquire mainly for those who are not frequently exposed to the targeted linguistic feature inputs. A number of investigations were already carried out to find out the frequency effect on the acquisition of verbs as a complement (gerund and infinitive), yet this paper was designed to identify the role of frequency on the acquisition of English –ing form structure by Indonesia L2 learners. Participants consisted of four groups from different semester (1,3,5, and 7). Each semester also indicated various language exposure experienced by L2 learners. Each group comprised 10 participants. Data were collected by employing the writing test to elicit –ing form production including interview and observation. The coding of students’ composition was carried out to determine the correct productions—which were scored to interpret frequency effect on students’ acquisition and their misconceptions in composing a sentence containing –ing forms. The findings revealed that the rate of frequency inputs of –ing form structure accessed by learners fairly contributed to students’ constructional schemas in accordance with the high score. Each word possessed various frequency inputs of distribution which then led them to any deviant production.  In addition, intra-lingual errors were responsible for any misconception perceived by learners (overgeneralization, ignorance of rule restriction, and false concepts hypothesized).

Abstract

The issuance of Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia (PP) Number 57 of 2014 concerning Development, Development and Protection of Language and Literature, as well as Improvement of the Function of Indonesian Language has made the dynamics of the Indonesian codification even more current. Before the regulation was published, the Indonesian language codification conducted by the government was limited to publishing the Big Indonesian Dictionary IV (KBBI) IV, General Guidelines for the Formation of Terms (PUPI), and General Guidelines for Improved Indonesian Spelling (PUEYD). The research method used is descriptive qualitative method. The data collection methods and techniques used include the listening method, with the basic tapping techniques and the advanced, competent free listening (SBLC) techniques. Meanwhile, the data analysis methods and techniques used include the orthographic equivalent method, with the basic technique of determining the deciding element (PUP) and the advanced comparative relationship technique equalizing the subject matter (HBSP). The results showed that the codification of Indonesian language after the issuance of PP Number 57 Year 2014 included updating the KBBI, PUPI Workshops, and publishing a number of bilingual dictionaries (Indonesian-regional languages).

Abstract

Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) merupakan kerangka umum acuan Eropa untuk bahasa yang meliputi masalah belajar, mengajar, dan penilaian bahasa. Konsep CEFR ini penting diketahui dan dipelajari oleh para pemelajar/siswa dan pembelajar/guru bahasa asing, terutama di dalam konteks pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia bagi Penutur Asing (BIPA). Desain penelitian ini adalah penelitian analisis konten. Fokus penelitiannya terletak pada implikasi konsep CEFR pada buku ajar BIPA berjudul Sahabatku Indonesia yang terdiri atas enam jilid (Tingkat A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, dan C2) terbitan Pusat Pengembangan Strategi dan Diplomasi Kebahasaan, Badan Pengembangan dan Pembinaan Bahasa, Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan pada tahun 2016. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsep CEFR telah diterapkan dalam buku ajar BIPA Sahabatku Indonesia dengan enam tingkatan, yaitu A-1 Breakthrough: Pemula 1 dan A-2 Waystage: Pemula 2, B-1 Threshold: Madya 1 dan B-2 Vantage: Madya 2, dan C-1 Effective Operational Proficiency: Mahir 1 dan C-2 Mastery: Mahir 2. Kategori A disebut Penutur Tingkat Dasar, kategori B disebut Penutur Tingkat Mandiri, dan kategori C disebut Penutur Tingkat Mahir. Selain itu, materi ajar BIPA yang dikembangkan di dalam buku Sahabatku Indonesia berbasis CEFR menyajikan empat keterampilan berbahasa, tata bahasa, dan budaya Indonesia. Tiap unit buku itu tersajikan materi Membaca, Tata Bahasa, Menyimak, Menulis, Berbicara, dan Catatan Budaya.
