Abstract

Background: Tobacco smoke contains a combination of chemicals that could be harmful to the buccal mucosa as the first part of the body that has been exposed. Damage to the buccal epithelial cells has the potential to become a malignant lesion. This study aimed to describe changes in the nuclear epithelial of the buccal mucosa using Pappaniculou staining as an indicator of mucosal damage in smokers. Methods: This was a descriptive analytical study, involving adult male participants from Bale Endah District, Bandung Regency, Indonesia aged >35 years, who had smoked for ≥10 years. Buccal mucosa smear was taken, and the features of nuclear epithelial changes were observed per 500 cells, each at 400x magnification with Pappaniculou stain to evaluate the features of micronucleus, broken egg, karyorrhexis, karyolysis. Those who did not smoke were recruited as a control group. Results: Smokers were mostly light active smokers or kretek cigarettes, with a smoking duration of ≥15 years. The frequency of micronucleus (p<0.001), broken eggs (p<0.001), karyorrhexis (p=0.001), karyolysis (p=0.003) in the buccal mucosal epithelial was significantly different between the smoker and non-smoker groups. Conclusions: All epithelial nuclear changes have shown significant differences between smoker and non-smoker groups. Nuclear epithelial features in smoker may be associated with future malignancies, therefore, smoking cessation programs are necessary to substantially reduce tobacco use, thus fostering a healthy lifestyle for everyone.

Abstract

The tridharma point that is most challenging for a lecturer to achieve is research, and currently, the benchmark for the research field is scientific publications. However, in reality, there are still many lecturers who are hampered in fulfilling research outputs in the form of scientific publications, this is because lecturers experience difficulties in compiling manuscripts of research results for publication. There are currently 144 lecturers at the Tasikmalaya Health Engineering Polytechnic and around 50% of the lecturers still have the functional position of expert assistant and do not have a functional position or teaching staff. This PKM aims to improve the ability of Tasikmalaya Health Polytechnic lecturers to compile manuscripts, avoid misconduct, and publish the manuscript in the intended journal. PKM methodThis is done using an Asset Based Community-Driven Development (ABCD) approach, namely focusing on the assets, potential and strengths of the Health Polytechnic lecturers. Workshop and coaching clinic preparing manuscripts, using reference management, and submitting manuscripts to journals. The research results showed that of the 50 participants who took part in the workshop, 15 lecturers succeeded in compiling manuscripts of research results, avoiding misconduct, and improving the manuscripts according to reviewer input. This shows the need for ongoing training and stimulation activities for lecturers in compiling research output.

Abstract

Patient satisfaction with dental and oral health services is the key to the sustainability of a Dental and Oral Hospital (Rumah Sakit Gigi dan Mulut/RSGM). An important factor that can support patient satisfaction is the quality of services and health facilities available. The Dental and Oral Teaching Hospital has the potential to raise many views on the quality of services provided. One of the educational RSGMs that is frequently visited is the RSGM Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD). This study aims to examine and analyze the influence of service quality and health facilities on patient satisfaction of co-assistant young dentists at RSGM UNPAD. The type of research used is descriptive verification with a quantitative approach and survey method. The subjects of this research were patients treated by young co-assistant  dentists at RSGM UNPAD, with a sample size of 135 respondents. Data were analyzed using SEM PLS. The results of the study showed that service quality had no effect on patient satisfaction, health facilities had an effect on patient satisfaction, and service quality and health facilities simultaneously had an effect on patient satisfaction of young co-assistant dentists at RSGM UNPAD. The findings of this research have the impact that the management of RSGM UNPAD needs to evaluate and improve the quality of service in the form of financing, facilities in the form of vehicle parking space capacity, and the level of satisfaction in the form of a more up-to-date reservation system. Keywords: Health Facilities, Service Quality, Patient Satisfaction
