Abstract

This community service activity was carried out on 21 September 2024 at Banksasuci (Bank Sampah Sungai Cisadane), Cihuni, Gading Serpong, Tangerang Regency, as part of the SOUL PROJECT (Save Our Earth With Law) organized by the Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Law, UPN Veteran Jakarta. The program focused on urban planning and water management in relation to the impact of development on Cisadane River water quality. The Cisadane River is one of the most vital water sources in Banten Province, supplying raw water for PDAM, agriculture, fisheries, and industry. However, rapid urbanization—marked by dense residential sprawl and industrial expansion—has caused a significant and sustained decline in river water quality. Research shows that COD and BOD concentrations in the Cisadane River trended upward continuously from 2005 to 2012, driven by industrial effluents concentrated in Jatiuwung and domestic wastewater from slum settlements. Institutional management of the river remains fragmented across multiple agencies at city, provincial, and national levels with weak coordination. This activity engaged approximately 50 participants through legal education sessions, participatory field discussions, river cleaning, and tree-planting activities. Results indicate a significant increase in participant awareness of the link between spatial planning, infrastructure development, and river water quality. This program recommends integrated spatial governance and community-based monitoring as key strategies for protecting the Cisadane River ecosystem.

Abstract

After the independence referendum, South Sudan was in a state of political destabilization that brought it back into conflict. This conflict began with a sense of dissatisfaction with the political elite of the government by an ethnic group in South Sudan. However, over time this conflict then spread into open conflict until it triggered a civil war. This made the international community such as the United Nations, IGAD and several countries provide their involvement to find peaceful efforts in the South Sudan conflict. This research will analyze the role of the UN, IGAD and several countries in finding conflict resolution in the South Sudan conflict. By using the framework of conflict, liberal institutionalism and peacebuilding, the research shows that a conflict will find a peaceful solution if the interests of the parties involved in the conflict are well accommodated. In this case, the mediator role of IGAD in particular, has a key role in the South Sudan conflict.

Abstract

The increase in bullying cases in recent years seems to indicate that the problem of bullying has not yet been resolved. In Indonesia, bullying is still a major problem that has not been resolved properly. Bullying, also known as bullying, is a person's behavior that is carried out deliberately and consciously by individuals or groups to other people with the aim of threatening, hurting and suppressing victims and is carried out repeatedly. Bullying can occur in the form of physical, non-physical, verbal, non-verbal, and through the realm of cyberspace. Bullying can also occur anywhere and by anyone, especially by children and adolescents in the school environment. Therefore, bullying prevention in the school environment needs to be done, one of which is through bullying education itself. With bullying education, students in schools are expected to understand bullying as a whole. The results of the education show that students not only understand bullying as a whole but also grow self-awareness from students to not want to commit acts of bullying in any form.

Abstract

Since the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan in August 2021, the country has become the world’s most extreme case gender-based educational exclusion. This article analyzes the transnational advpcay strategies employed by the Malala Fund in response to the crisis of female education in Afghanistan. Utilizing a qualitative case study approach, this research operationalizes the Transnational Advocacy Networks (TANs) framework and the concept of Norm Entrepreneurship by Keck&Sikkink (1998) as its primary analytical lenses. The findings indicate that the Malala Fund functions simultaneously as a network hub and a norm entrepreneur through four strategic dimensions: deploying emergency grants to support the evacuation and resettlement of human rights defenders, building documentation infrastructure in partnership with local and international organizations, forging cross-sectoral coalitions to expand access to free secondary education, and executing normative reframing through the strategic codification of the term “gender apartheid” as both a legal instrument and a symbolic mobilization tool. However, the effectiveness of this advocacy is significantly constrained by the Taliban’s systematic closure of domestic advocacy channels, the absence of enforceable international legal mechanism, and geopolitical fragmentation within the UN Sceurity Council. This contribute to the literature by demonstrating how non state actors utilize norm entrepreneurship to elevate domestic gender crises into the global normative agenda, while highlighting the structural limits of transnational advocacy when state sovereignty claims are weaponized to dismiss international human rights norms.
