Abstract

Indonesia is a tropical country with high rainfall and diverse topography, making it prone to flooding. In Bengkulu City, the flood risk is particularly high in low-lying and flood basins, which are critical zones for flood risk mitigation. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of rock types and water infiltration potential that may  trigger new flood basins in Ratu Agung District, Bengkulu City. The microtremor method was applied to assess soil  properties based on the dominant frequency (f0), amplification factor (A0), and sediment layer thickness. The analysis showed (f0) values ranging from 1.13 to 8.55 Hz and (A0) values ranging from 0.74 to 4.59. HV-Inv analysis results indicate shear wave velocity Vs values between 53 and 894 m/s, with five sediment layers reaching a depth of 100 m. Higher Vs values generally represent denser, less porous rock, limiting infiltration and increasing surface runoff, which elevates flood potential. The findings of this study are expected to serve as a reference for flood risk mitigation, especially in minimizing infrastructure damage and social impacts in Bengkulu City.

Abstract

Subsurface rock weakness is considered a contributing factor to the high abrasion rate along Nangai Beach, North Bengkulu. This study aims to characterize the subsurface structure using shear-wave velocity (Vs) data derived from Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW) at 21 measurement points along the coastline. The data were processed using WinMASW 5.0 Professional software, beginning with dispersion curve picking in the fundamental mode and followed by inversion to generate one-dimensional Vs profiles along with corresponding density and layer thickness. Interpretation of the 1D and 2D Vs profiles indicates that most of the study area is dominated by soft rock formations with generally low Vs30 values, highlighting the area’s vulnerability to coastal abrasion. Recommended mitigation strategies include natural restoration through coastal vegetation, construction of protective structures, and implementation of regional zoning to safeguard tourism and residential areas. Furthermore, active community participation in tourism management is essential to achieve a sustainable balance between environmental preservation and economic development. Overall, the findings provide valuable input for local governments in designing effective abrasion mitigation strategies and sustainable geotourism development plans.

Abstract

West Lampung Regency is located within an active tectonic zone associated with the Sumatra Fault system and is therefore vulnerable to significant earthquake ground shaking. This study aims to identify the spatial distribution of Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) based on local site characteristics derived from microtremor measurements. Microtremor data were recorded at distributed observation points and analyzed using the HVSR method to determine the dominant frequency (f₀) and amplification factor (A₀) of the soil. The results indicate that f₀ values range from 0.544 to 15.1 Hz, while A₀ values vary between 1.66 and 8.57, reflecting heterogeneous subsurface conditions. These parameters were used to estimate PGA, which ranges from 0.105 to 0.565 g across the study area. Higher PGA values are generally associated with areas characterized by lower dominant frequencies and higher amplification, indicating thicker or softer sediment layers. The resulting PGA distribution map reveals zones with relatively higher seismic response potential. These findings demonstrate the importance of site-specific dynamic characterization in seismic hazard assessment and provide essential information for earthquake risk mitigation and regional development planning in West Lampung Regency.

Abstract

Abstract

Bengkulu City lies in an earthquake-prone region because of tectonic activity along the Sumatra subduction zone. Subsurface characterization is critical for safe infrastructure planning. This study identifies subsurface conditions in the Bengkulu City Government office area using microtremor data analyzed with the Diffuse Field Assumption (DFA) approach. Researchers recorded 52 measurement points to determine key seismic parameters: dominant frequency (f0), amplification factor (A0), seismic vulnerability index (Kg), and shear wave velocity (Vs30). The results show that f0 values range from 3.57 to 14.8 Hz, A0 from 1.62 to 7.18, Kg from 0.30 to 6.35, and Vs30 from 189.29 to 740.48 m/s, indicating significant spatial variation in subsurface conditions. Areas characterized by low f0, high A0, and low Vs30, particularly at points T33 and T41, are identified as zones with higher seismic vulnerability. The application of the DFA approach enables a more reliable estimation of subsurface shear wave velocity and enhances the interpretation of site effects compared to conventional analysis. These findings highlight the importance of integrated seismic parameter mapping to support earthquake hazard mitigation and urban spatial planning in tectonically active regions.

Abstract

interaction between the Sumatra subduction zone and the Sumatra Fault, resulting in high seismic activity. One of the important segments with the potential to cause earthquakes is the Ketahun Segment in Lebong Regency, Bengkulu Province. This study aims to map the three-dimensional (3D) fault structure and identify lithological density contrasts to support disaster mitigation efforts. The methods used include processing GGMPlus and SRTM2gravity satellite gravity data, complete Bouguer correction, regional-residual anomaly separation, first horizontal derivative (FHD) and second vertical derivative (SVD) analysis, and 3D inversion modeling using Grav3D software. The CBA analysis results show anomaly values of –8 to 50 mGal with sharp gradations indicating the presence of major fault structures. SVD and FHD analyses show the dominance of dip-slip faults with significant density contrasts. The 3D inversion modeling shows a density range of 1.02–3.52 g/cm³ with an average value of 2.27 g/cm³, where the low-density zone is at a shallow depth (0–1500 m) and the high-density zone is at a depth of 500–2000 m. The sharp boundary between the two zones indicates an active fault plane at a depth of 1000–2500 m. These findings provide a more representative picture of the fault geometry and can be used as a basis for developing earthquake mitigation strategies and spatial planning based on actual geological conditions in the Bengkulu region.
