Abstract

This current research investigated the effectiveness of application English songs in teaching conditional sentences through google classroom as a variety of teaching among students to gain interest and motivation. An experimental approach with a pre-test and post-test was exploited. The data was collected through multiple choices test of conditional sentences. A small group of students as the experimental group (N= 32), and another small group as the control group (N=32). A questionnaire was also administered to measure students’ perceptions toward Google classroom in learning conditional sentences through English songs. The finding indicated that there was differences in mean score of experiment and control group although in medium level. Meanwhile, students’ perception towards implementation of GC bring positive effect to the students’ motivation in learning conditional sentences through English songs. Overall, the research presents discerning implication to the body of research on teaching conditional sentences.

Abstract

This study examined the relathionship between extensive reading activity (ERA) and critical reading (CR), and self esteem. To do so, many classes from second grade of science class and social class in senior high school Lamongan, They were given test of extensive reading and critical reading and questionnaire of self-worth. To attain the desires of the research, this research uses the design of correlative ponder the discoveries of the study indicated that there was highest significant relationship between extensive reading and critical reading ablity, and between in-depth reading and self esteem, and the reserch was found with highest significant among critical studying capacity and self esteem. The collected data were analyzed using a statistical regression analysis using the Pearson product moment coefficient of correlation. The discussion of the result of analysis in this scientific work, this research has three conclusions, there are ERA and CR at either the 0.05 level. And between ERA and Self Esteem (SE) at either the 0.05 level or the 0.01 stage (2-tailed). And CRA and SE at either the 0.05 level or the 0.01 level (2-tailed) too. Therefore the teacher will predict what must be developed and the way to try to do it.

Abstract

In teaching speaking English, teacher has high contribution for promoting autonomous learners. Autonomous learner refers to someone who has the capacity to take control of one self involving self-management, self direction and self evaluation. To promote autonomous learners when teaching speaking English, teacher must design all materials and implement it by nine strategies. The nine strategies are setting objectives, selection of materials, methods, teacher's role, teacher-learner relationship, learning environment, homework, presentation and talks, and evaluation. By applying the nine strategies will place the teacher on the right position as facilitator to support autonomous learners in teaching speaking English.

Abstract

This study is to find out the students' preferences in independent learning after the implementation of group work activities at the sixth semester students of English Education Department of University of Muhammadiyah Gresik. The number of eighteen students are provided by group work activities (combined by a Lesson Study model) in the subject of Classroom Action Research. After that they are given a questionnaire about the preferences of independent learning with five categories namely self-confidence, discipline, initiative, responsibility, and motivation. Data show that there are positive responses of the students' preferences in terms of better self-confidence, higher discipline, superior initiative, recovered responsibility, and better motivation in learning.

Abstract

We often recognize that good teaching is capable of stimulating individual potency through optimizing the power of group learning. Many education experts also agree that the learning groups are very much beneficial for learners primarily on cognitive and affective development. Two approaches are often raised and many practitioners of education refer to the model of cooperative learning and collaborative learning. This paper further discusses the basic principles and the different uses of the two approaches. The author hopes this paper can provide appropriate information on the use of the two learning approaches.

Abstract

Student’s Perception is the process of students to interpret and organize an environment into meaningful information which cover student’s feeling of like or dislike towards something, it includes positive and negative opinion. Student’s Perception in this study focuses on the implementation of YouTube in Learning English song lyric. This study uses mixed method design. 72 students in class XI Science 3 and 7 in SMAN 1 Cerme become the subject of this study. The data was collected using Perception Questionnaire. After grained the data, the writer analyzed by using some formulas and SPSS 1.16. The writer also used interview to ensure the result of questionnaire.Based on the data analysis that was collected and analyzed from the students of XI-Science 3 and 7, 58,3 % of the students had positive perception towards the implementation of YouTube in Learning English song lyrics, from the interview and questionnaire result, this study is also gave many advantages from the student’s perception, the writer would like to answer the research questions as stated before. It consisted of a question involving to find out the research question “What is the students’ perception on the implementation of English song video in YouTube for learning song lyric at eleventh grade students in SMA Negeri 1 Cerme?”. The result is students had good perception, the students gave positive respond in every activity conducted in the classroom because the song make the class become more conducive, fun, and meaningful, so it influenced their ability in listening improved well. Not only that, they also mastered the component of language in English, such as grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. The result of questionnaire and interview, the percentage from students who disagree that learning English song lyric improved their understanding in identifying grammatical structure. Even though they have learnt grammar for many times, but they still have difficulties in learning grammatical structure. Not only that, students also have difficulties in differentiating the native speaker accent, such as American accent and British accent. Students also weak in imitating the sound of speech. It is because the native speaker speaks fast, so that they cannot get the word easily, they still repeat the English song again and again. Teacher also uses group discussion technique in learning English song lyric from YouTube, it made the students become more active in communicate and share ideas with their friends.

Abstract

This study is aimed at analyzing validity and reliability of service questionnaires tomeasure the level of customer satisfaction at the University of Muhammadiyah Gresik.There were three questionnaires to be developed for services; at units and university level,at Study Program services, and at services of learning evaluation by lecturers. By usingquantitative descriptive analysis of SPSS application, the results showed that the averagevalues of Cronbach alpha for the three types of the questionnaires were 0.778 to 0.806,0.874 to 0.884, 0.964 to 0.966, and in consecutive, their r values were 0.806, 0.884, and0.966. Thus three of these questionnaires fulfilled the validity and reliability for bothCornbach alpha and r value that was already above 0.3 or approaching one. Therefore, thethree questionnaires are acceptable to explore customer satisfaction data used at theUniversity of Muhammadiyah Gresik.

Abstract

Writing is a productive skill which makes the students managing the ideas into texts or paragraphs. Writing skill is one of the things that noticed by the Indonesian Minister of Education and Culture. It can be seen at the curriculum. The curriculum expects that the students will be able to write in English texts well at the end of learning process. However to reach the goal at curriculum is not easy. It because the students have a lot of problems in learning writing. For instance, when the students write paragraph, they usually has no unity so the content of each paragraph did not appropriate with the topic. Then, the students difficult to organize ideas properly. Besides that, the students also difficult to choose the appropriate words. These problems are caused by the ways students learn writing are not really effective. To solve the problems, the researcher use Graphic Organizer with Schoology as the alternative in teaching writing. This study was investigate the significant effect of Graphic Organizer with Schoology on Students’ Writing Skill. The researcher chose eleventh grade at MA Masyhudiyah Giri to conduct this study. The sample was 11 MIPA 2 as the experimental group and 11 MIPA 3 as the control group. Both of class consisted of 30 students. So, the number of the participants in this study was 60 students. The research finding showed that there was a signinificant difference between experimental group who were taught by using graphic organizer with schoology and control group who were taught by only using graphic organizer. It is proven by the result of sig. (2-tailed) is lower than 0.05 (0.000<0.05). So, the null hypothesis can be rejected. It means that Graphic Organizer with Schoology has significantly effects on students’ writing skill. Therefore, the researcher suggest to the English teacher for Implementing of Graphic Organizer with Schoology as the alternative in teaching writing. For the future researcher, the researcher hopes that can use Graphic Organizer with Schoology in different way to develop other skill such as reading skill to make a difference with this study

Abstract

Some researches reveal that skill courses and content courses so far, especially in the area of English learning, have pointed out shortcomings and weaknesses so that the activities of learning English in the classroom are often not optimal. This article aims to provide an offer of how to optimize a method of learning English using the task based learning. This article also offers the essence of the task that should be developed to maximize the learning atmosphere in the classroom so that the achievement and attainment of learning can be maximized as well.

Abstract

There are still many gaps or problems that occured in students' Speaking English learning activities, especially in activities for learning outside the classroom. In this case, the researcher is interested in exploring the relationship between the frequency and usefulness of students who studied English outside the class room on their level of anxiety. There are still not many researchers who pay attention to this field. In this study, researchers used descriptive quantitative methods to draw correlations between these aspects that influence each other. The type of the instruments that used in this research were FLCAS (Foreign Language Class Anxiety Scale) questionnaire and the Frequency & Usefulness of the Out-of-class Activities. The results show that the average frequency of learning to speak English outside the classroom is 3, while the average value of learning to speak English outside the classroom is 3.31. On the other side, the anxiety value is indicated by the total number of students having a moderate anxiety level of 42.5%. The significance of correlation of the frequency and usefulness of students that studying outside class hours on the level of students' speaking anxiety is not very significant. Although, these three aspects have a fairly good value. This research is still limited to a quantitative design. Future research is expected to be able to continue with a different design in order to gain new results.
