Abstract

Abstract

Religion can be supportive or discriminative toward women depending on how we interpret religion. When religion is interpreted from patriarchal lenses, it tends to be discriminative toward women, such as in the case of women leadership. This paper will challenge the existing mainstream patriarchal interpretation of the Qur’an on women leadership by offering new feminist interpretation of the Qur’an which is friendly to women and suggesting affirmative policy to increase the number of women leaders in State Islamic Higher Education (Perguruan Tinggi Keagamaan Islam Negeri/PTKIN). This paper uses feminist methodology by using interview and literature studies as methods of data collection. This study shows that leadership in PTKIN is still dominated by men due to the strong patriarchal culture. There are only seven female rectors out of 58 PTKIN in Indonesia. Based on this finding, the new interpretation of the Qur’an which is friendly to women needs to be promoted and the existing gender-neutral policy on the selection of rector in PTKIN needs to be revised into affirmative policy to allow more rooms for women’s leadership to achieve Planet 50-50 by 2030.

Abstract

This article aims to offer a textual analysis of Rahima and Fahmina’s publications. Rahima and Fahmina are two Non-Government Organizations founded in 2000 by a young generation of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), one of the largest moderate Muslim organizations in Indonesia. There are more similarities than differences between Rahima and Fahmina because the persons involved in the organizations are close friends and, in fact, the same persons even though both are based in two different cities. Since their foundation, both Rahima and Fahmina have published many books and magazines. This article argues that both Rahima dan Fahmina publications offer a new grounded feminist approach to Islam, which counterbalance the dominant male-biased normative approach to Islam in most Muslim societies. These publications are based on their feminist activism and community engagement with the grass-root level of many Nahdlatul Ulama pesantrens (Islamic boarding schools). The topics of their publication cover many current issues such as fiqh of women’s reproductive rights and empowerment, fiqh of the daily life of migrant workers, fiqh of anti-trafficking, prevention of child marriage, violent extremism and religious pluralism. As a result, the progressive nature of their publications negates the existing label of NU as the traditionalist organization.

Abstract

Developing question instruments in learning is a skill educator and prospective educators must master. A test instrument is said to be of quality if the question contains several components, including the question stimulus, there is a STEM (question), homogeneity of answers, an alternative formulation of question indicators, context, content, and cognitive level. This study aims to determine the quality of the question components, including the question stimulus, answer homogeneity, context, and mental status of the question. The method used is an analysis of the PAI end-of-semester exam questions and Ethics for the 2022/2023 IX odd semester academic year, namely seeing and analyzing question instruments, including question stimulus, answer homogeneity, context, and cognitive level of the question. The results showed that the question stimulus needs further development, while the uniformity of the answers has met good quality. Abstract

Indonesia is a democratic country with a unitary state system and uses a republic form. This has been stated in Indonesia's main constitution, namely the 1945 Constitution. As a consequence of using the above system, Indonesia has several regions under it which have their own autonomy. One of the autonomy that exists in Indonesia is the special status attached to the province of Yogyakarta. The privileges of Yogyakarta have long been legitimized by related laws, namely Law Number 2 of 1948. Apart from that, the privileges of Yogyakarta have also been strengthened by institutionalizing the form of the Sultanate and standardizing the highest regulations for the area; paugeran, into national regulations, namely Law No. 13 of 2012. So this research focuses on the extent to which paugeran is accommodated by Law no. 13 of 2012, specifically on the aspect of female leaders. This research is an analytic normative research using two theoretical approaches, namely stipulative theory and genealogical theory. It was found that Law no. 13 of 2012 was unable to fully accommodate the paugeran owned by the Sultanate of Yogyakarta. This is evidenced by the existence of several nomenclatures that are not in line with paugeran. In fact, paugeran is the spirit and spirit of the formation of Law no. 13 of 2012

Abstract

Publishing articles in scholarly journals is an unavoidable activity for academics. Some courses require postgraduate students to publish in a journal in order to pass their classes. Some Indonesian institutions require students to publish articles in a journal before graduation and journal publication has become one of the requirements for lecturers to be promoted into a higher-ranked job. Out of these obligations, there are many benefits of publishing articles in a journal. One of these is that our thoughts and expertise will be conveyed to the public. This will attract further benefits such as being invited to be the speaker on the topic about which we have written or being invited to collaborate on further research and publications.

Abstract

Schools are one of the most effective places to make humans free from all forms of oppression. Unfortunately, the textbooks used in schools contain a lot of gender inequality. This study aims to understand how the content of Islamic History in the Islamic Education textbook constructs gender which has implications for gender-based injustice. This study uses a qualitative approach with the method of critical discourse analysis by Norman Fairclough’s model. The primary data source used was all Islamic Education subject matters contained on the Islamic Education textbook at the Middle School level published by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The data collection technique used is the documentation technique with an in-depth reading mechanism. The findings reveal that there are four gender constructs contained in the Islamic History content, namely: (1) applying the patriarchal culture, (2) placing men as the main character, (3) prioritizing men existence and his roles, and (4) marginalizing the existence and role of women.
