Abstract

Objectives: The aim of this report which contains three case series is to describe the radiographic characteristic of dentigerous cyst using CBCT. Case Report: In the case presented here, all of the three patients had dentigerous cyst developing in impacted tooth, but did not have the same symptoms. CBCT radiography examination was carried out to find out the margin of the cortical extension, the diameter of the lesion, and the relations between the lesion and adjacent structures. The result of CBCT examination shows there is a variation of radiograph characteristics of dentigerous cyst among the three patients. Conclusion: CBCT is a very useful complementary tool for diagnosis and surgical planning in cases of dentigerous cyst, because three-dimensional viewing of the structures offers greater accuracy in lesion identification.

Abstract

Objectives: This research is aimed to find out the advantages of alternative tools as a guide for measuring the vertical dimensions of teeth on periapical radiographs and comparing the lengths of vertical dimensions of teeth on periapical radiographs with the actual lengths. Materials and Methods: This research is using analytical observational study with a cross-sectional study design. The research data were primary data from 30 periapical radiographs of two maxillary central incisors, which were photographed using a periapical projection with bisecting technique and a periapical film that had been attached with wire on the outer layer of the film wrap. The data were analyzed by a paired T-Test using SPSS software. Results: The p-value of ALT (Actual Length of the Tooth) for tooth 11 was 0.53 and for tooth 21 was 0.140. These results show a p-value > 0.05. Conclusion: There is no statistically significant difference between the calculation of tooth length on periapical radiographs using alternative tools and the calculation of actual tooth length so that alternative tools can be used as a guide for measuring the vertical dimensions of teeth on periapical radiographs.

Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to find out the distribution of CBCT-3D examination referrals at Dental Hospital Universitas Airlangga based on the origin of referral, specialist field, age and gender. Materials and Methods: This descriptive research is using the total sampling method. Secondary data from the medical records of any referral patients for CBCT-3D examination at Dental Hospital Universitas Airlangga from July 2015 to March 2020 were included in this study. Furthermore, data references were tabulated and presented in the form of a pie chart. Results: The distribution of CBCT-3D examination referrals at Dental Hospital Universitas Airlangga was as high as 323 (77.64%) coming from within the hospital and as much as 93 (22.36%) from outside of the hospital. Based on the dental specialties who made the referral, six of seven departments have referred their patients for CBCT examination with varying proportions and indications. The distribution of referrals was also divided into gender (male or female) and several age categories based on the Indonesian Ministry of Health, such as toddlers (ages 0-5 years), children (ages 5-11 years), adolescents (ages 12-25 years), adults (ages 26-45 years), elderly (ages 46-65 years) and seniors (over 65 years). Conclusion: Referrals for CBCT-3D radiography examinations at Dental Hospital Universitas Airlangga are mostly from within the hospital, from the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Female patients and the elderly (46 years and older) were found to be the most frequently referred.

Abstract

ABSTRAKPendahuluan: Ketajaman radiograf merupakan kemampuan suatu gambar radiograf memperlihatkan batas tegas objek, sehingga memiliki bentuk dan detail yang jelas. Tidak tajam dan buramnya gambaran radiograf dapat menyebabkan diagnosis serta rencana perawatan menjadi kurang tepat, lesi karies tidak teridentifikasi dengan baik, menyulitkan evaluasi perkembangan gigi-geligi dan menyebabkan pasien terekspos radiasi berlebih, karena dibutuhkan pengulangan pengambilan gambar radiograf. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui gambaran nilai ketajaman radiograf panoramik di RSGM UNPAD. Metode: Jenis penelitian merupakan deskriptif dengan populasi yaitu data  arsip radiograf panoramik di Instalasi Radiologi Rumah Sakit Gigi dan Mulut Kedokteran Gigi Universitas Padjadjaran selama bulan September–November 2019. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan total sampling dan diperoleh sebanyak 85 sampel. Analisis ketajaman dilakukan secara visual dengan melakukan pengamatan dan penilaian data radiograf panoramik Hasil: Sebanyak 62 radiograf panoramik (73%) memiliki ketajaman baik, 21 radiograf panoramik (25%) memiliki ketajaman sedang dan 2 radiograf panoramik (2%) memiliki ketajaman buruk. Simpulan: Radiograf panoramik di RSGM UNPAD memiliki gambaran nilai ketajaman baik.Kata kunci: ketajaman radiograf; kualitas radiograf; radiograf panoramik; RSGM Unpad ABSTRACTIntroduction: Radiographic sharpness is the ability of a radiograph image to show strict edge of the object, so it has clear shapes and details. Unsharpness and blurred radiographs can caused diagnosis and treatment plans to be less accurate, carious lesions are not properly identified, complicate the evaluation of the development teeth and cause patients to be exposed by excessive radiation, because it requires repetition of radiographic images. Tthe purpose of this study is to know the description of panoramic radiograph sharpness at RSGM UNPAD. Methods: This research was a descriptive study. The study population was taken from RSGM Padjadjaran University for three months. Total sampling was used and resulted 85 samples. The study was conducted by observing and evaluating panoramic radiograph data. Results: There were 62 panoramic radiograph (73%) have a good sharpness images, 21 panoramic radiograph (25%) have moderate sharpness images and 2 panoramic radiograph (2%) have poor sharpness images. Conclusion: Panoramic radiograph at the RSGM UNPAD have good sharpness images.Keywords: sharpness radiograph; quality radiograph, panoramic radiograph; RSGM Unpad

Abstract

Objectives: This study is aimed to find out the distribution of DBI in the jaw based on the classification of radiopaque areas and their location using panoramic radiographs at RSKGMP Universitas Airlangga Surabaya. Materials and Methods: This research was a descriptive observational study with total sampling method. The study used secondary data from panoramic radiographs at the RSKGMP Airlangga University Surabaya during 2018–2021, which had a DBI appearance, and analyzed them based on the classification of radiopaque areas and locations. The results of the analysis are then presented in the form of tables and pie charts. Results: Classification of DBI based on radiopaque areas was found in type 5 separate (47.81%), type 4 apical (29.82%), type 3 apical and interradicular (17.54%), type 1 interradicular (3.07%), and the least in type 2 interradicular and separate (1.75%). The most common locations of the lesions were in the premolar region (42.54%), the molar region (27.63%), the canine region (12.28%), the canine-premolar region (8.33%), the premolar-molar region (6.58%), and the least common location in the incisor and incisor-canine regions (1,32%). Conclusion: Classification of DBI based on the most common radiopaque area was found to be type 5 separate, with the most lesion locations in the premolar region. While the least classification was found in type 2 interradicular and separate, the incisive and incisive-canine regions had the fewest lesion locations.

Abstract

Introduction: Sialolithiasis is a condition that occurs due to obstruction in the salivary gland or ductus excretory by calculus or sialolith. Sialolithiasis was the most common disease of salivary glands with a percentage of about 50%, and approximately 80-90% occurs in the submandibular gland. This paper analyzes the sialolithiasis in the submandibular gland being reviewed from the radiograph.  Radiography screening becomes one of the most essential supporting examinations to help enforce the diagnosis and treatment plan to be conducted.Case : A 33-year-old patient was seen in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of General Hospital, Bandung, Indonesia. The chief complaint of swelling in the right side of his lower jaw was under the chin. Multi-imaging and radiography modalities screening were panoramic, occlusal, cervical, CT Scan, USG, and sialography. Case management : On radiographic examination, radiological suspicion was sialolithiasis with a well-defined and irregularly shaped radiopaque lesion in the lower right jaw area. Therefore, radiographic techniques with different modalities were performed to support each other in delivering accurate radiodiagnosis. Conclusion: The considerations of using appropriate multi-imaging and radiographic modalities are necessary to confirm the diagnosis of sialolithiasis in the submandibular salivary glands, especially in hard-recognized cases on plain radiographs. Keywords: Radiography, Sialolithiasis, Submandibular gland

Abstract

Objectives: This article is aimed to report the use of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging analysis on a radiolucent lesion case. Case Report: A 24-year-old female patient was referred to dentomaxillofacial radiology installation, at Universitas Padjadjaran Dental Hospital for a CBCT examination of a lower jaw lesion. The CBCT result demonstrated a large radiolucent lesion at the periapical of tooth 37 with a mostly diffuse border that extended posteriorly to the ramus. There was a cortical thinning on the lingual side alveolar bone. Density analysis revealed an average density of –22,9 grayscale. Conclusion: CBCT 3D could analyze lesions from qualitative and quantitative approaches. Based on these approaches, the lesion of this case led to a suspect of infected radicular cyst.

Abstract

Objectives: This case report aims to describe a large radiolucent lesion associated with an impacted canine in a young patient from CBCT radiographs. Case Report: A 12-year-old boy was referred for CBCT examination to the Dentomaxillofacial Radiology unit at the Universitas Padjadjaran Dental Hospital with swelling on the right side of the face and a gingival lump on the upper right region suspected as an unerupted canine. The CBCT examination results showed an ectopic impacted tooth 13 and a large hypodense/radiolucent lesion with a well-defined and corticated border located on the coronal of tooth 13, expanding into the maxillary sinus and nasal cavity. Conclusion: Based on the CBCT result in terms of location and radiographic features, this extensive radiolucent lesion led to a suspect radiodiagnosis of the dentigerous cyst within a young patient. However, histology examination is still required to establish a definitive diagnosis.

Abstract

Objectives: To find out information about variations in the normal shape of the condyles based on gender using panoramic radiographic observations and to find out the frequency data for variations in the normal shape of the condyles. Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive observational research using 122 panoramic radiographs as secondary data. The panoramic image consisted of 61 male samples and 61 female samples. The condyles were observed by describing the condyle shapes on the right and left sides. Observation of the shape of the condyle was carried out by three observers. Then, the data were tested for reliability by using the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient to equalize the perceptions of the three observers. Results: The reliability test using ICC obtained a score > 0.9 which means very good reliability. The most commonly found condyles shape is round and there are differences in shape between the right and left condyles in both males and females. Conclusion: The most common variation of the normal shape of the condyle found in both males and females is round on the right and left sides.

Abstract

Radiation is any kind of energy transmitted without an intermediate medium. Radiant energy is generally wave-shaped, most commonly sinusoidal. There are two types of radiation: ionizing radiation and non-ionizing radiation. Ionizing radiation is radiation that causes the process of ejecting electrons from atoms to form ion pairs. Attention should be paid to ionizing radiation, particularly its sources, types, properties, effects, and methods of avoidance. Ionizing radiation is well known, for example radiation from X-rays. Non-ionizing radiation can occur in equipment and mobile phones. Miftaful Ulm Merilan Madrasah Tsanawaya School is in Merilan Village, Bunga District, Eastern Gresik Regency. The location of this school is far from the city center. Student health contributes to the smooth running of the educational process. There is a lack of knowledge and awareness among students and residents in Bunga district that radiation hazards affect their quality of life. A technical implementation of this training will help you address the material. Students were assessed using pretests and posttests. The mean score before the pretest was 32.7, and after listening to the material and after the posttest was 80.
