Abstract

Islam and local tradition had already coexisted peacefully since Islam was revealed by Allah for the first time through the Gabriel Angel to the Prophet Muhammad in Mecca on 610 M. According to Mohammed A. Muqtedar Khan, there were traditions and ethics of Islam, based on the origin of the the sharia misunderstood by the most Muslims until now. Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) with his theory of the Pribumisasi Islam and Khalil Abdul Karim with his theory about the early existence of the Islam and sharia has been revealed among the pre-Islamic Arab tradition as the blueprint for Islam and the sharia in this era. Both of these theories are those of the continuation of Islam for all times and places.  For the first time, Islam and the sharia gave high appreciation and respect to the Arab tradition and had even enshrined Arab traditions that are considered good and maslahat for humanitarian life remains entrenched to the teachings of Islam and enshrined in the Qur'an. Both of these theories can be used as the basis for rejecting the discovery of Timothy Daniel about "Islamic Spectrum in Java" (2009) which holds that the religious practice of Java is the Kejawen belief (a syncretic), because the teachings of Islam has mixed with local traditions. Therefore, I assert that the religious practice of Java is very diverse and cannot be called as a Kejawen belief (a syncretic). The practice of the Kejawen belief in religious practice in Java is a form of Islam whichis a contextual learning and will continue its process on the perfection of Islam to continue to honor the tradition of the Javanese community that has been practiced by their ancestors and has been successively crystallized and is very difficult to eliminate. Some examples are: bathing with flower tradition in the wedding event, laying flowers at the entrance of the house every Friday night, and riyungan. The reason is that the Muslim community is still able to practice the good and maslahat tradition like in the first era ofIslam in Mecca and Madina.

Abstract

Abstract. This study examines the origin,  existence, and development of Islamism group in Indonesia since pre-independence until now. Islamism is a group of Muslims who are obedient to the teachings of Islam, but they are very extreme, literal,  static and rigid in understanding the teachings of Islam (Alquran), and reject to the other Muslims who disagree with Islamic ideology that they have embraced. The group of Islamism existed and emerged in Indonesia, it was not apart from the influence of the spread of Islamic teachings from al-Ikhwan al-Muslimun that was founded by Hasan al-Banna in Egypt in 1928. The group of Islamism was the first Muslim group before the other Muslim groups in Indonesia; such as the Pos-Islamism group, the Liberal Islam Group, the Moderate Islamic Group, the Progressive Islam Group. The group of Islamism in Indonesia—as al-Ikhwan al-Muslimun in Egypt who aspires to spread the ideology of Islam for all of the world—seeks  to spread  their ideology with the movement of "creeping up" for all of the area in Indonesian, since before independence until now. Islamist groups succeeded in spreading Islam and Sharia through mosques, schools, ta'lim majlis. The existence and development of Islamist groups in Indonesia today are flattered. They have very much support from the political elite. However, they are not aware that their hands are being borrowed or exploited by political elites to seize or get the  power in irrational ways. Keywords: Islamism, Emergence, Existence, Development, Indonesia.

Abstract

Women ulama or Muslimah scholars are ordinary people who experience role conflicts, problems with co-worker support, and work-life imbalances which would cause stress in the workplace. Some pieces of literature have examined these issues; however, a study in a specific community like Muslimah scholars who are Indonesian Women's Ulama Conference members (KUPI) is still limited. This study examines the effect of role conflict, co-worker support, and work-life balance on work stress among Indonesian female Ulama. The author uses a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. After filling out a consent form, data was collected from Muslimah scholars and members of KUPI. Participants then filled out the questionnaire by self-report. The results showed that most participants had moderate role expectation conflict, co-worker support, work-life balance, and job stress. The variables of role expectation conflict, co-worker support, and work-life balance influence work stress simultaneously. The indirect effect analysis showed only role expectation conflict on job stress through work-life balance, which has a significant effect. This finding indicates that although these women scholars have strategic careers and positions in their workplace, colleagues and family are two crucial things for them.

Abstract

This article discusses the concept of maşlaḥah family, which is part of the customary law of Mak Dijuk Siang (prohibition of divorce) in the Lampung Pepadun Megou Pak clan. Despite the prohibition of divorce, household problems are addressed within the community, and there are customary sanctions for violating this rule. The purpose of this article is to analyze why traditional leaders enforce and uphold the Mak Dijuk Siang customary rules and their relevance to Indonesian marriage law. The study uses a qualitative method, combining field research with library research in the sociology of law. The research was conducted in the Lampung Pepadun Megou Pak community in Tulang Bawang Regency and West Tulang Bawang Regency, Lampung Province. Primary data was obtained from traditional leaders through observation, interviews, and documentation. The analysis applies the theory of legal effectiveness. The results show that the concept of maşlaḥah family in the Mak Dijuk Siang rule reflects the community's belief in the philosophy of Piil Pesenggiri, which discourages divorce and aims to build eternal families. In cases of household conflicts, mediation is preferred through the Penyimbang Pepung Adat Customary Institution. The practice of maşlaḥah family through the Mak Dijuk Siang customary rules has been effective in reducing the high divorce rate, demonstrating its relevance to Indonesian marriage law.
