Abstract

The leader is a key component of the government system. Referring to the Prophet Muhammad and his companions' leadership attributes as described in many literatures, a leader must be a Muslim who is istiqamah (consistent), trustworthy, honest, and fair. Another issue comes when the leader is not Muslim but has a trustworthy, honest, and fair character in carrying out his leadership responsibilities. This article tries to give answers to these issues through many sources of literature, particularly leadership for the Indonesian Muslim community, which has a Muslim population of 231.06 million (86.7 percent) (according to The Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center/RISSC). According to the findings of this study, the leader serves as a substitute for the Prophet in world and state affairs. As a result, the legislation enabling non-Muslims to handle Muslim affairs is prohibited, because non-Muslim leaders will be unable to implement it for the Muslim community. His leadership will put his group's interests over the Muslim group's. Although scholars disagree in their opinions on non-Muslim leaders, some scholars restrict the selection of non-Muslim leaders since they share beliefs with helpers and leaders. Some other scholars agree that non-Muslim leaders can exist in Muslim-majority territories because they no longer fit the contemporary context.

Abstract

This article proposes an epistemology of Nusantara Fiqh. Considering the fact that the majority of Indonesia’s population is Muslim and that the tribes, ethnicities and religions are diverse, it is necessary to construct an epistemology of Indonesian Islamic law that is compatible with such a condition. The Indonesian Fiqh has its own characteristics. Fiqh and the study of Nusantara Islamic law must be based on an epistemology that considers that plurality. This study employed a qualitative approach with inductive analysis where the researcher created categories of various themes and certain patterns from the research data. Then, the categories were formulated based on the records of existing data. The result of this study is the development of the Indonesian Islamic law epistemology using the istiṣlaachii model aimed at giving benefits for the Indonesian people by combining naṣ size or text with a logical view, communicating text and tradition (context). The integration of the two was done so that the benefits to be obtained adhere to the syara’ and only use logical considerations and the social reality. The integration of naṣ and logical view was done so that ijtihad does not become textual dogma without considering realistic and practical benefits. Keywords: Ushul Fiqh, Nusantara, and Epistemology

Abstract

Work ethic is a person's attitude and view at work, sourced from self-quality, realized based on values and implemented in activities at work. A work ethic based on Islamic values will form a Muslim full of responsibility and hard work in carrying out his duties at work. At a practical level, an understanding of the Islamic work ethic will have a major impact on work. The results of this study indicate that in general the understanding of the Islamic work ethic of the employees of UIN Raden Intan Lampung and IAIN Metro is in accordance with the theory of Islamic work ethic. However, in practice not all employees carry out an Islamic work ethic which includes work to seek sustenance, work is worship, work professionally, work hard, respect time (discipline), uphold honesty. According to the Islamic perspective, work is part of fulfilling the needs of life which are divided into primary, secondary and tertiary needs. These three needs are very important for the running of human life in general and humans in particular. If it does not work, then humans will naturally experience difficulties which will eventually fall into sin.

Abstract

The mission of Islamic Higher Education Institutions (IHEIs) is to advance Islam as a mercy to all creation (raḥmah li al-‘ālamīn). A manifestation of Islam, raḥmah li al-‘ālamīn, is the practice of religious moderation in campus life and society, characterized by the adoption of pillars such as national commitment, anti-violence, tolerance, and adaptation to local culture. This study seeks to compare human resource development (HRD) methods by enhancing the values of religious moderation in three IHEIs. A comparative descriptive qualitative method was used to understand the HRD of three IHEIs that were the objects of research to identify similarities and differences. The study found that all three IHEIs used a similar approach, such as focus group discussions, training, and webinars. These efforts have only reached the internalization stage in strengthening the understanding of religious moderation. The study's results recommend an HRD framework that integrates religious moderation into the organizational culture to encourage the realization of a civil (Madani) society.
