Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Fabrication and Characterization of Silver Nanoparticles Using Extract of Mangrove Fruit of Rhizophora stylosa. Silver nanoparticles display unique physical and biological properties that have attracted research interest because of their promising applications. In this research, silver nanoparticle (AgNPs)  fabrication process was carried out via green synthesis methods using mangrove plants and water as a solvent. Mangrove fruit extract Rhizophora stylosa (RS) was first used as a reducing agent and stabilizer in the synthesis of AgNPs. The characteristics of AgNPs were characterized using UV-Vis, FTIR, XRD, and TEM spectrophotometers. UV-vis spectrum analysis showed a peak at 430 ‒ 445 nm. FT-IR studies revealed the presence of active phytochemical compounds which act as coating agents and stabilizers for nanoparticles. TEM showed that the morphology of AgNPs was spherical with a diameter size of 10 ‒ 60 nm. The XRD patterns showed that all of the AgNPs sample obtained had a face-center cubic (fcc) structure, indicating that the nanoparticles are crystalline solids with a crystallite size of 38 ‒ 77 nm. This study proves the ability of biomaterials in the synthesis of silver nanoparticles by adopting the principle of green synthesis.

Abstract

Abstract. Raza’i TS, Jaman S, Setiaji D, Hasby M, Pardi H, Putra IP. 2025. Optimizing substrates for Caulerpa racemosa cultivation in Bintan Island, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 26: 5525-5533. This study aimed to determine the most suitable substrate medium for the cultivation of Caulerpa racemosa and to provide a scientific basis for the development of sustainable aquaculture practices in Bintan Island. An ex-situ experimental method was employed by culturing C. racemosa under different substrate treatments. Growth performance was assessed through several parameters, including total length, stolon length, number of assimilators, assimilator length, and assimilator diameter. Prior to statistical testing, the data were examined for normality and homogeneity of variance, followed by analysis of variance (ANOVA) to evaluate significant differences among treatments. The findings demonstrated that mud was the most effective substrate for C. racemosa culture. On average, cultures grown on mud substrates achieved a total length growth of 57.62 mm/day, stolon length growth of 2.75 mm/day, assimilator length growth of 4.85 mm/day, and assimilator diameter growth of 1.24 mm/day. Statistical analysis confirmed that there were significant differences in growth across the various substrate treatments, highlighting the influence of substrate type on the cultivation success of C. racemosa. Overall, this study concludes that mud represents the optimal substrate medium for the culture of C. racemosa. These results provide important implications for the development of environmentally friendly and sustainable aquaculture systems in Bintan Island. The promotion of C. racemosa as an aquaculture commodity holds strong potential to support local livelihoods and contribute to the economic development of coastal communities in Bintan Island, Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstract. Putra RM, Raza’i TS, Sukendi, Budijono, Jhonnerie R, Kurniawan R, Ramdhani EP, Pardi H. 2026. Integrating RAPFISH-MDS diagnostics into an operational sustainability roadmap for a tropical oxbow lake (Sepunjung, Indonesia). Biodiversitas 27 (3): d270308. https://doi.org/10.13057/biodiv/d270308. Sepunjung Oxbow Lake in Riau Province, Indonesia, is a tropical floodplain lake exposed to increasing ecological and socio-institutional pressures, creating an urgent need for a practical sustainability management framework. This study aimed to develop an operational sustainability roadmap for the lake by integrating biophysical evidence and stakeholder knowledge through Rapid Appraisal for Fisheries with multidimensional scaling (RAPFISH-MDS). Sustainability was assessed across five dimensions using 45 attributes supported by monthly water-quality monitoring from September 2024 to February 2025, fish community observations, field verification, and semi-structured interviews with resource users and relevant stakeholders. The analysis showed that the ecological dimension had the lowest sustainability index (31.8), followed by legal-institutional (43.2), while the economic (52.3), technological (55.9), and socio-cultural (59.0) dimensions were classified as moderately sustainable. Monte Carlo testing confirmed the stability of the ordination results. Sensitivity analysis identified key leverage attributes, and Pareto screening selected 13 priority factors explaining 78.2% of total sensitivity. The most critical intervention areas were aquatic vegetation cover, water quality, riparian forest condition, utilization zoning, community empowerment, monitoring facilities, and fishery product marketing. Based on these findings, a 12-24 month operational roadmap is proposed, focusing on ecological rehabilitation, participatory fisheries control, institutional strengthening, and livelihood improvement. The study demonstrates that multidimensional sustainability diagnostics can be translated into concrete management priorities for tropical oxbow lakes in Indonesia.
