Abstract

Numeracy competence is a foundational skill for elementary students, essential for success in 21st-century learning. However, many Indonesian students continue to face difficulties in understanding mathematical concepts and performing calculations effectively. This study investigates the effectiveness of the GASING (Gampang, Asyik, Menyenangkan) method in enhancing numeracy skills among fourth-grade students. A quasi-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design was employed with a mixed-methods approach. Thirty fourth-grade students at MIN 1 Manado participated in the study over two months. Quantitative data were gathered through numeracy tests, while qualitative data were collected via observations, interviews, and open-ended questionnaires. Data were analyzed using paired sample t-tests and thematic coding. Students’ numeracy scores improved significantly from a mean of 45.6 (pre-test) to 78.3 (post-test), with a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 2.63). Observations showed increased engagement and participation, while qualitative feedback revealed reduced math anxiety and increased motivation. Both students and teachers expressed positive perceptions of the method’s interactive and enjoyable approach. The findings suggest that the GASING method effectively improves both computational fluency and conceptual understanding in mathematics. Its emphasis on progressive learning, visual tools, and enjoyable activities fosters a positive learning environment. While the absence of a control group limits generalizability, the results indicate that GASING holds promise as an instructional strategy in elementary numeracy education.

Abstract

This study investigates the implications of science learning models for strengthening elementary students’ Science Process Skills (SPS) in the digital era. The research addresses the problem of uneven development of SPS indicators, particularly higher-order and language-intensive skills, in primary science classrooms. The study aims to describe the implementation of science learning models, the profile of students’ SPS, the integration of digital technology, and assessment practices in Grade V science learning. A qualitative case study was conducted in two public elementary schools in Tanjung pinang Timur using purposive sampling. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with two teachers and four students, and documentation, and were analyzed using an interactive model of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that science instruction is dominated by group discussions and hands-on experiments, with the emerging use of project-based learning. Students demonstrate strong foundational SPS (observing, classifying, measuring) but show weaknesses in predicting, hypothesizing, concluding, and communicating due to confidence and language barriers. Digital media support conceptual understanding and engagement but are limited by device availability and preparation time. Assessment practices remain largely product-oriented and group-based. The study concludes that strengthening SPS requires pedagogy-led technology integration, targeted scaffolding for scientific reasoning and communication, and indicator-based assessment aligned with the Kurikulum Merdeka.

Abstract

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low connection between science learning at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) and the local cultural context of students, which has an impact on the lack of optimal science literacy. Science learning tends to be abstract and textbook-oriented, while the integration of local Acehnese wisdom has not been structured in the learning design. This study aims to (1) analyse the needs of science learning based on local wisdom in Aceh as the basis for the development of the Seuramoe Saentia Learning Model and (2) measure the level of improvement in students' science literacy after the application of the model. The researcher uses a research and development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subjects, based on the ADDIE model, comprised 138 grade V students from four MI in Langsa City, who were selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments are in the form of observation sheets and science literacy tests (20 pretest questions and 20 posttest questions). The validity of the model was tested using Aiken's V, while the increase in science literacy was analysed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, effect size, and N-Gain. The results showed that the model had a very high content validity (Aiken's V = 0.96). The Wilcoxon test showed the dominance of positive ratings without a decrease in scores, with an effect size of 0.87 (very large category). An average N-Gain value of 0.72 (high category) indicates a substantial and even increase in science literacy. These findings show that the systematic integration of local wisdom in science learning effectively improves students' science literacy. Implicitly, the Seuramoe Saentia Learning Model can be a strategic alternative in the development of science learning that is contextual, inclusive, and rooted in local culture in madrasas

Abstract

This study examines the internalization of Islamic ecotheological values through participatory learning at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Sunan Pandanaran Yogyakarta. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this study explores how theological principles are transformed into ecological awareness and behavior. The results show that Islamic ecotheology functions as an ontological foundation that reconstructs students' paradigms from an anthropocentric theological perspective to an ecocentric one. Pedagogical strategies that include contextual reinterpretation, integration of cosmic empathy, and prophetic examples (uswah) serve as tools for deep internalization, changing students' motivation from extrinsic obedience to autonomous spiritual trust (amanah). Furthermore, this study identifies participatory learning as a crucial pedagogical mediation to bridge the gap between values and actions. By involving students in reflective dialogue and collective ecological projects, schools successfully fostered a stable and autonomous ecological habitus. This discussion synthesizes these findings with transformative learning theory, highlighting that the eschatological spiritual dimension provides a more sustainable basis for environmental preservation than a purely technical approach. This study contributes a conceptual model for integrating spiritual values into practical ecological action, offering a transformative framework for Islamic religious education in response to the contemporary environmental crisis.

Abstract

This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach to explore the implementation of the STEAM–Ethnoscience Carita-based science sontoto learning model in a primary school classroom to enhance students’ creativity and critical thinking skills. Data were collected through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, involving teachers, students, school leaders, and local community members. Student creativity and critical thinking development were identified through classroom observations, learning artifacts, and thematic analysis of learning activities during the implementation of the model. The findings indicate that integrating STEAM principles with local ethnoscience knowledge, particularly traditional agricultural practices, water management, and environmental conservation in the Carita community, significantly improved the quality of science learning. Contextual learning activities encouraged active student engagement, strengthened conceptual understanding, and fostered environmental awareness. The results also show a substantial improvement in students’ creativity and critical thinking abilities during the learning process, as reflected in their ability to generate ideas, analyze problems, and propose solutions during project-based activities. These findings demonstrate that the STEAM–Ethnoscience Carita model provides an effective pedagogical framework for developing 21st-century competencies in primary education and offers potential for adaptation in other educational contexts with similar cultural and ecological characteristics.
